My 1st son was natural-but my twins girls was delivered C-section. I had a rough experience after birth. My incision dehisced and my husband had to pack my wound 3 times a day, help me get a bath. I felt like a young that I had failed due to not being able to care for my babies. You precious baby girl looks just like her mommy, but she could change and look like daddy later. Congratulations to you both from Mt. Sterling, Kentucky 👣👣🩷🩷

The same thing happened to me but I had an up and down incision. 27 staples just unzipped lol. For 3 months it had to be backed. Tried natural labor. From the time my water broke, 29 hours later I had a C-section. That they cut into a hernia during. My spinal wore off, I tried to throw my leg off the table and run. Had to knock me out

Post partum nurse here! What a beautiful story! And I can say from my experiences with seeing my patients, you definitely bounce back faster with a smooth, planned c section vs an emergent one (especially after pushing for 2 hours! And that is because your body is already so exhausted and it goes through a major surgery). We also LOVE seeing dads like Gabe being so involved and supportive! It makes a huge difference in recovery as well, too!! Congratulations ❤️

I last gave birth 21 years ago and it made me emotional. My story wasn’t like this but it was traumatic in it’s on way. My babygirl was a Godsend to my family. Drue, you did great and you should be proud. And at the end of the day, no matter what the birth story looks like, you and Gabe are Ivory’s parents and the birth is just a second in time in the life of Basham Family, party of 3.

Dure, You literally had your body RIPPED open to bring that baby into the world. You gave your mind, body and soul to bring her into the world. You are NOT a failure, you’re a heckin’ WARRIOR! I also had to use pitocin, and my daughter’s heart rate kept dropping, I had to have the monitors on her head, and had 19 hours of labor!!! My OB was also not at the hospital, My bed was literally taken off the brakes and I was about to be rolled back for an emergency C section just like you but last second my OB showed up and had me push with the tugging sheet and 30 minutes later she made her appearance into the world. We almost had the same experience.

This right here had me in tears. Birth has scared me. My whole life I said I wouldn’t have kids because of birth. I had my boy 9/15/23. And it was the most perfect experience. But having that experience and it going so smoothly makes me more empathic towards mamas who have a traumatic experience. I feel your pain when telling this story. And I’m here to remind you, Drue, you ARE a good mama. You have prioritized Ivory since day one and will continue to do that. Praying for a smooth transition for your sweet family.

To answer your ending: i have two babies, a girl (almost 3) and a son (4months). Both of my babies deliveries were about the same. I went in for induction (my body does not move on its own lol) i had Pitocin and then got the epidural + water broken. About 14 hours in and 2 hrs of pushing my daughter made her arrival but she had something called shoulder dystocia but was okay. My son after about 12hrs and really 5 mins of pushing made his arrival. His was way more painful. I guess the way he decided to come out it cut off my epidural from my lower half so i felt a lot more with his! I felt so bad for other moms that probably heard me yelling lol

So amazing how much Gabe took ahold of the reigns and rocked it in dad mode! I can only imagine how scary this was for you Drue. I just had my second baby on August 6th and he had heart decelerations during labor as well. If I didn’t reach 10cm so quickly and push him out in literally a minute and a half (very quick coached pushing, yes I tore 2nd degree) they were going to take him via c section. Both of my births were fine but I would still describe the experience as traumatic honestly. Even my first birth where nothing “went wrong” I would still cry talking about it for weeks. I too couldn’t have done the postpartum recovery without my husband. I see women whose husbands don’t even stay the night at the hospital and I’m like HOW. Thank you for sharing your story. I loved watching. Will be cheering y’all on through parenthood. Ivory is a lucky girl!

You did not fail, Drue! You kept ivory safe for 9 months, it was Gabe’s turn to take care of her AND you. Ivory is lucky to have you both! Our baby also did the 24 hour jaundice treatment, we had to laugh and say he needed a tan after being in hibernation for 9 months . that was the most miserable night of our lives but we look back and realize how far we’ve come! My babies heart rate also kept dropping during labor and I will always remember the fear it brought everytime they said it.

I’ll be honest, I was not the biggest fan of Drue and Gabe. But hearing this story, man I feel for them. I feel like Gabe matured so much through this experience and I grieve for Drue and her birthing experience. Drue, you’re not a failure. You tried you very best and literally had a major surgery to birth your baby. She knows who her momma is and you two will be best friends. You have to remember to take care of yourself and give yourself time to heal so you can be the best momma you can for her. Use your village so you can rest and recover. I can’t imagine not getting to hear my baby’s first cry and not hold her right away. It’s okay to grieve the birth you wished you had, there’s nothing wrong with that and it doesn’t make you a bad mom. You truly did all you could to get her here. You are still a great mom!

I had to comment…girl…never take him for granted, because he is one of the rare ones. I had a very similar story with my first birth and what I would have done to have had such loving , caring, and attentive hubby like yours that genuine cared as much as hers. Y’all two are absolutely adorable and are going to make awesome parents. Also, the way you husband described with such detail and knowledge, shows just how intelligent and supportive he is. He was so meant to be a dad! Mom, you are also going to be great and remember it is all a learning process…that’s for sure!!!

Drue, the level of trauma you experienced is more than anyone should ever have to deal with. It is very fresh right now, and it will take a long time to process. There is a whole grieving process you will go through, and the trauma will sneak up on you when you least expect it (I say this from personal experience). But please know, you did NOT fail, you are a warrior. You are so unbelievably strong. And you are an amazing mama.

The way you can hear Gabe’s pain when he talks about not being able to be in that room with you after experiencing everything you went through. It was said so beautifully and you did an amazing job Drew. The way us mamas will do anything over again for those babies no matter how traumatic. Your story is amazing and she’s so lucky to have you guys as parents. God is so good- you guys are all healthy and home and able to tell your story to the world. I had a c section in May and I know recovery is brutal so take this time to rest and take things slow. Use all the help you can and ask for help even when you know you can do it on your own. Hormones are wild after birth so cry when you need to and pray all the time. You will get through this beautiful season you’re never alone. 🤍

C section mama here! I totally feel you. Saw my baby for 2 seconds before she was transported to a different NICU 30 minutes away. Finally got to the same hospital via ambulance around 3 am. Couldn’t hold my baby for the first 4 days. She wasn’t eating the first 3 fourth day nurses were feeding her plus sending nutrients she needed through her IVs. Finally now feeling like I can talk about it. (She will be 10 months tomorrow) but i definitely understand the traumatic experience. Felt awful because I wasn’t progressing, felt awful because I couldn’t hold her, felt awful because i couldn’t feed her. After 7 days in the NICU we were able to bring her home and it was the biggest blessing.

Drue I know you probably won’t see this, but I just want to tell you I had almost the EXACT same birth experience with my first. I labored for over a day and a half, ending in a c section as well, needing general anesthesia too. I just want to tell you, it is possible to have a positive birth experience after this one. Getting to pick a day, and go in without laboring that long, and getting your epidural, is such a different experience. It is so exciting, and your healing will be night and day after your body not being exhausted before even starting surgery. My second and third CS were a breeze! You are NOT a failure. Just don’t forget to take care of you!! You guys are adorable, and such good parents already! Congrats ❤️

My hips are also too narrow. I had trouble bonding with him at first. He's almost 5 and I love him so much! My 2nd is 18 months. Planned c section. Sooo much better. This was so sweet! The love you two have for each other is so evident. I ended up having a c-section with our daughter in May, too.. I had a terrible car accident at 11 weeks pregnant and actually broke my back(from T8-L2 so I have rods and screws in my spine), 8 ribs and my cervical collar. I had to learn to walk again and everything and have permanent nerve damage in my right leg so I can't feel it. Long story short, I had to have a c-section due to my injuries. It wasn't what I had originally planned, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. Our experience with it was truly a blessing and I would do it 1000x over for her. Thank you for sharing your real, raw story with us! You ARE strong, brave, and a wonderful mama! So thankful for a healthy mama and a healthy baby!!! God is good!

Thank you for sharing your story!! I also had a c section July 12th of this year, very unexpectedly at 36 weeks exact. I went to work that morning and then around lunch my blood pressure went way up. I went to labor and delivery and it started with oh we are just going to monitor you for 24 hours to we are going to induce you to actually you have to have a c section and possibly go to the ICU if your blood pressure doesn’t go down after baby’s arrival. All of that in less than 10 hours!! It was a little traumatic but worth it for my sweet baby boy. Birth is so scary sometimes but you did great and now you have your perfect little girl. I’m so happy for both of you!❤️

with my first i stopped feeling her kicking & ended up having to have an emergency c section at 25 weeks due to a placental abruption, both my girl and i were hours away from death, shes 4 now and thriving.. i finally felt ready for another child 4 years later and made it to 33 weeks and had to have an emergancy c section… 1st was in the nicu for 106 days & the second for 48 days ! i felt like a failure too but let me tell you, you are SO strong drue and you did not fail! youre amazing for enduring that & everything you went through ! youre an amazing momma already💖💖💖

Drue! I just have to say you did from the sound of it so amazing! I just wanted to tell you a little bit of my birth story! I was on Pitocin as well. I went to about an 8 1/2 before I got the epidural. It ended up failing I was still a little bit numb but I could still feel everything and I had my son at 36 weeks. And now I’m on another journey with my daughter that’s coming in February! Don’t feel defeated that you weren’t there for your daughter you brought a beautiful baby into this world with lots of love. My son was also very jaundice but he did not have to be under the light. I’ve heard lots of other stories of moms that don’t get to see there kids for DAYS and it’s heart broken to hear moms that have to go through that but it’s great that you have a wonderful husband by your side! I don’t know what I would have done without mine. Much love! ❤️

I was very lucky to have a successful induction, very little pitocin and things moved along great. 2.5 hours of pushing was TOUGH, but I made it through and we got to meet our little girl June 1st. I am with you Drue, I worried about that dang epidural for 9 months and it was nothing just the sting from the numbing. I honestly think it all looks worse than it is and I am so grateful the anesthesiologist kept everything covered till he was behind me. I was a ball of nerves the whole time and was so embarrassed how many times I told the nurses I was scared but they were amazing and helped me work through the fears (along with a great hubby like you Gabe!). Men are amazing too, but God knew if they had to do all this the human race would not have kept going 😅. Great job momma and congrats you two!!

It’s nice to know I’m not alone! You have such a beautiful baby girl! I’m praying for healing for you mama! Congratulations!! 🩷🥰

Drue, this was really amazing.. and scary at the same time.. my baby was born in March and it went perfect not one single thing went wrong and your story just shows me how grateful I am for that happening.. I know every birth is different and I hope my next birth goes just as smooth as my first but you truly opened my eyes to be more aware of things that can happen.. Congratulations on your baby girl & I hope the best for you and Gabe !!!

As someone who had an emergency c section the first time 6 years ago… I’m sorry. I know that it was so hard and your a great momma. You will grieve those moments you lost. But it gets better and easier. I’m also here to tell you a planned c section is soooo much better and it will be better. Enjoy your beautiful baby. ❤❤❤

Thanks so much for sharing!!!! Sorry your delivery was a traumatic experience. I'm glad you have Gabe to help support you and baby!! I would definitely say having a scheduled/planned C/S for your next delivery will be very different and hopefully much less stressful. I was an L&D and NICU nurse for many years. You ate so rigbt whennyou say every delivery is different. They are all so special and miraculous as well!! I have 5 kiddos... my oldest was delivered when I was 17... I had went into preterm labor woth her at 33 weeks so was on bedrest until 37 weeks. Once I stopped taking the meds they had me on to control eary labor I wentninto real labor at 37.5 weeks, it was fast and furious, a total of 3 hours and 15 mins. I did not want an epidural (I was scared of it), but the pain was so bad by the time I got to the hospital around 2 hours into labor I asked for one anyways... luckily when I sat uo for the epidural I felt like I needed to "poop", they checked me and sure enough I was 10 cm so no epidural(thank the lord because I really didnt want one)... I pushed for 15 minutes. That labor from the start of bad pain to her being delivered was 3 hours 15 mins. Baby number 2, three years later... I woke up in the middle of the night to a "pop" feeling, ran to the bathroom and realized my water had broke. Immediately hard contractions and pain set in. He was born 45 mins after. I delivered at 40.3 weeks. Baby 3, three years later... I was sleeping again awoke in the middle of the night went pee think I lost my mucus plug climbed back into bed and then the hard painfully contractions hit me. We madenit to the hospital just in time. My water broke in the wheel chair and I delivered her in my own tshirt... was a total of 38 minutes. I was 40.1 weeks on delivery day. Baby 4, again three years later... I was cramping all morning and because my labors were getting quicker and quicker we decided to go to the hospital even though I wasn't in real bad pain... it was a snowy day and we didn't want to have a car delivery lol... got to the hospital around 4ish... I was in mild labor the nurse did the roughest vaginally exam I have ever had and that did it... put me into rip roaring labor... the dr had to break my water just before baby came it didn't break non it's own... total labor for him was about an hour (mind you I only count labor for myself as BAD out of this world pain, the mild stuff is easy) and had been happening for weeks with each of them as you know. Baby 5, seven years later... I had high BP and now a L&D nurse, at 39 weeks dr wanted to induce me... I was scared, I had seen so many inductions last a long time and things go wrong since we are forcing a body to do something it's not naturally ready to do... i.pleased with my dr please no induction... dr agreed to let me go home but I had to come to clinic again next day for non stress test and labs... next day BP was still high and he really recommended an inducion (I agreed because how could I not for the sake of my baby and myself and our health). I was so scared and nervous... I didn't want meds so dr broke my water... about an hour later hard painful contractions started and she was born about 45 mins later... total labor from breaking of water to delivery was 2 hrs 5 mins. I was 39.1 weeks. ❤❤❤
