Well I just rewatched the game. I counted 9 blocks for Duncan. For that number to be 10 you have to count both Robinson-Duncan blocks to Duncan. And they are the mirrors of each other. On one Robinson touches the ball first then Duncan arrives, the last one which you said counted as Robinson's block is Duncan touches first then Robinson blocks.
@iamkailong4 жыл бұрын
I am pretty sure duncan touched it first for my eye, and his hand is put above the ball for a clear block instead of like Robinson as side/below. However, it was around 00s, we don't have hd camera and slow replay for this kind of thing yet. Mistakes like this are pretty common, and actually pretty hard to call atm. Just sad that this is the moment they decided to rule against duncan on those calls.
@anthonyzarate98073 жыл бұрын
I watched game for the 5th time in my life (watched live as well!) and the official scorers had to of had Duncan with 8 blocks early in 4th because the TV crew (Walton and gang) said he had 6 in 3rd. After that he had 2 more clear blocks by the 6 min mark of 4th. Then he clearly gets 2 more blocks before end of game! I honestly count 10 with another 2 possible. So he could've actually had 12. TBH, if it was Lebron or MJ, they would've had 21, 20, 12, 12! That is not a joke either! It's ok though, because real basketball fans who watch this game close again can obviously see he had quadruple double. P.S. Not too mention he held KMART to 3-23 shooting, 1-20 for last 3.5 qtrs!!!!!

I agree that Duncan was robbed, but to call this mistake “THE GREATEST ROBBERY” is ridiculous and very far from accurate. Team achievements matter more than individual ones - if you want to look at ACTUAL ROBBERIES, try the 2002 Western Conference Finals between the Kings and Lakers, or the 2006 Finals between the Heat and Mavericks. These 2 playoff series are literally infested with tons of bad calls, biased referees, and mistakes. These 2 examples are actual robberies, and the Mavs and Kings got robbed of something far more important than recording a quadruple double - an NBA championship.

NBA top brass didn't like Tim Duncan. It's hard to understand why. I mean he's one of the best players to play the game, ever. He's also lead the most successful team in the NBA since Jordan's Bulls. The problem with Duncan is how he dominated the NBA, with the most boring brand of basketball in the history of the sport. I don't know if that is really the reason he gets largely ignored by NBA record keepers, but let's just put it this way, when ever a person plays a boring brand of anything, rating go down and no matter how successful you may be. If the ratings go down then your success isn't even going to be recorded properly. Case in point, the lowest TV rated NBA finals just so happens to be the one where stats were never recorded properly.
@jamiethompson10084 жыл бұрын
Nothing boring about Tim Duncan's game. He went out and dominated. He wasn't noticed because he wasnt a loud jackass clown like shaq. He even dominated shaq .
@rezarfar3 жыл бұрын
@@jamiethompson1008 Hey to be fair, he's my favourite ball player of all time but unfortunately the statics don't lie, he dominated with low scoring and low tempo games, it wasn't the same brand of smash mouth basketball that makes for good TV. I liked him best because on a technical level, he was the best court general in the history of basketball. He dominated many players, Kevin Garnett, Shaq, Iverson and many others but he still played a slow paced and slow tempo brand of basketball that was boring to watch. Not always but the majority of his games were quite boring. The Spurs hold the record for lowest TV ratings for play off games in the modern era for a reason. You don't get low TV ratings if you are an existing team to watch.
@thecensoredmuscle5633 жыл бұрын
That's the fault of the nba though. Spurs never got media coverage, never got hype. I remember commercials that would show every nba team but spurs. Stern and the ref Crawford hated spurs. And the nba could have had great ratings with spurs, but instead purposely ignored them. The blane is on end nba not on spurs for the ratings being low.
@rezarfar3 жыл бұрын
@@thecensoredmuscle563 That's wrong. The NBA never forced the Spurs to play boring slow paced defensive basketball. That was their coaches and in particular, it was a play style best suited to Duncan, who himself was never athletic or quick. Duncan had great defensive capabilities, possibly the best leader to ever play the game and unshakeable resolve, you couldn't phase him and his focus was second to none. But those things don't make for exciting TV.
@thecensoredmuscle5633 жыл бұрын
@@rezarfar what did I say? I said the nba was at fault for never showing or caring about the spurs. Whether you think Duncan is boring or not, has nothing to do with ignoring them, and never hyping up how talented they were. When you ignore a team that wins championships, when you have commercials, and playoff commercials that include every team but spurs. When you have sports stores across the country without spurs gear. You can't blame spurs for low ratings, it's on the nba. The commissioner hated spurs, and the refs were horrible to spurs against big market teams. Except for against Miami in 2014 when spurs won 4-1. And guess what? That was Sterns first year gone. Just go back to the 90s even. The media pretended like Olajawan would dominate Robinson. Just because of media influence people to this still do not realize that Robinson with a much worse team is 32-16 against Olajawan and only lost one playoffs match against Houston. Media has a big influence. Ginobli was exciting to watch, Parker was fairly exciting as well. It took both of those guys like a decade of playing before getting more respect.

You are really being nit-picky. If you are going to be this nit-picky, then no record would withstand scrutiny. And if you do this, then I almost guarantee that Duncan is not the last guy who should've been awarded a quadruple double in the NBA. A lot of assist and shot block calls - unlike steals and rebounds and obviously scoring calls - are judgment calls. So it's easy to miss an assist or two, for instance. An exhibit: I recall reading about players being over-rewarded with assists in home games and under-rewarded in away games in the mid-80s (in the context of Stockton's over-inflated home assist totals): So I just taped a Sunday LA Lakers game away to see if this was true. Voila: In that game, Magic arguably should've been credited with 4-5 more assists. That's obviously quite substantial; and I doubt that was such a glaring exception. The variance in these judgment calls by statisticians in other sports can have dramatic consequences, too. Look at all the controversy regarding certain calls when statisticians awarded a "hit" instead of "error" in baseball. Sometimes it even ruins no hitters; other times it is the determining call in someone winning or losing batting titles.
