You can turn off hold to right click within the pen settings. I knocks out a lot of jitter and gets rid of the delay nicely. Also, if you use a bit of line smoothing like I do with Leonardo. It feels very niiicccee.
@TerminalJack5054 жыл бұрын
Agreed. The default pen settings don't play very nice with drawing applications. Most drawing apps have smoothing options that help with the jitter problem and for the one's that don't there is Lazy Nezumi Pro, which will work with most Windows apps. (Not UWP apps, however.)

Had surface book 1 for the longest time, and honestly for me it's the power performance of having all adobe apps working side by side without having much hassle. The presentation is really cool when detaching the perfect 3x2 ratio screen to show off the photo you've created into others. The downside (besides the ridiculous price) is the error I get after having window's update.

Hi Brad, great review! I have a surface book 2, I've had it for a year and a half now, and it's a shame to see that what makes the laptop special (which basically is the ability to flip the screen and turn it into a wacom studio 16 pro) is still as it was on the previous model with no improvement on the jitter, the initial activation and the screen color gamut. They basically updated all the regular laptop parts and improved none of what could make the surface book the ideal artist device. I truly hope that microsoft is working on improving their ntrig tech. For what they are charging, it should be on the same level as the apple pencil or wacom EMR. Also: small tip but if you wear an artist glove the jitter gets reduced by a lot, or at least that's how it happens in my case. Also try adobe fresco on it, it has the best pen experience if you ask me.
@okaynecromancer4 жыл бұрын
I think my biggest problem was with the Pen when I got my Surface Book. Before I started using it to draw more often, the tip already broke after a few months of casual use.

Thanks for this comment. It's interesting to see how much more they could have done. I'm speaking as a SB2 owner, and I still kind of really regret buying it... (bought when it first released). Ever since buying my iPad pro 11 inch last month (which I never thought I'd buy any Apple products at all), I've never looked back since. Using Procreate to draw is just too damn good.
@shuura4 жыл бұрын
I also have the SB2, but find it difficult to draw with. For me, there's just too much of a delay between putting pen to screen and seeing my lines. I've gone back to regular sketch pads and regret the ridiculous spend for the 15" model with all of the bells. If I could go back, I'd spend that money on another Origin gaming laptop!

I got the surface pro book when it first came out. Here is a con you might think about. If you use keyboard shortcuts while drawing, illustrating or modeling, this device is really difficult. If you’re drawing in laptop mode you’re not going to have a stable canvas. If you go to tablet the keyboard isn’t accessible. I had to set up another keyboard while in tablet. It isn’t bad for those quick edits, like you said.

I have owned two separate Tablet PC computers. An Acer and a Fujitsu. ("Tablet PC" is a trademarked specification from Microsoft that called for the Wacom EMR stylus detection system.) And I now own a Surface Pro 4. The palm rejection on those Tablet PCs was flawless! I used them both while in University (as an older, returning student) to take notes on all day long. I was able to write in OneNote with the stylus then use my fingers to move or zoom the page then go back to writing as easily and naturally as if I were writing on paper. On the other hand, the palm rejection on my Surface Pro is a nightmare! It is so bad that I gave up using it for taking notes when I was in grad school. I kept losing my train of thought while fighting with the false inputs from my palm. ... Then I learned about drawing gloves! But too late. My latest is a Lenovo Yoga C940 15.6" I'm pretty happy with it. The palm rejection is really good. But not as perfect as my older Tablet PCs. And the handwriting fidelity is FAR better than my Surface Pro 4. Before I bought the Yoga, I tested ALL the Surface devices for the wavy diagonal line problem. I even brought in a plastic ruler and made sure to hold it with my non-drawing hand well away from the screen, just to make sure my hand wasn't shaking. Unless you are drawing REALLY fast, the lines are too wavy for anything but a casual sketch. There is a reason ALL Surface ads show people drawing with a really, ludicrously fat line. That's because it obscures the wavy line problem.

Thanks Brad ! I don't draw slowy so I don't have that much problem. What bothers me most is the fact that some of my favorite android/iOS app like Sketchbook has not the same render. It's less natural, more "digital" that's so disappointing :( But Clip Studio works great and I can't wait to use it on my 15" screen. But like you I may not recommend it for people who doesn't need both computer power + tablet form factor. As my main PC I need it to be powerfull but I also want to draw on it, use it to work, take notes,... And just like you Brad, I miss the kickstand :( I found on amazon a protective cover which add a kickstand to the tablet and let it be detachable. Is it yours or did you get one from MS ?

I am a retoucher and CG artist. I would strongly urge avoiding this machine. I am about to receive my 6th - yes 6th - replacement device from Microsoft. They are fantastic computers when they work, but so far the longest one has gone without needing tech support and an eventual return is about 4 weeks. Touch and input died on one, bluetooth radio died in another, keyboard in one, speaker in another, and the hinge was super wobbly in another. If I could get my money back I would, in a heart beat. I've lost days of time dealing with support (who are great, just not the devices) and ended up buying something else to have something I can rely on for work. Posting here because your review was one of several that influenced my initial choice to buy.

I've been using a Surface Book 2 for over 2 years now and while I'm really happy with the amount of horsepower it can put out, it's kind of a hassle when I have it docked and have to flip the screen around when I want to draw something in a pinch. I'd have to remove the USB-C dock before detaching the screen and then plug it back in after reattaching the screen else the dock wouldn't be recognized. I'm not sure if this is still and issue on the SB3 but I'm planning to pair a Surface Pro 7 alongside a chunky gaming laptop soon. Also, the CPU fan on my SB2 is dead so I'm basically running it fanless with lots of thermal throttling.

I have a Surface Pro 4 and a spare power supply that I bought recently. That USB charger port on the power supply brick is seriously underpowered.

Hello! A bit unrelated to the video, but I've been watching alot of reviews from this channel and reading the comments that I thought i might as well ask this, since everyone seems to have experience with drawing tablets etc.. I'm on my grandmother's account right now as my phone is dead at the moment and I couldn't wait to ask, but here it goes. I've been wanting to invest in a drawing tablet but there is so much variety that im not sure how to go about it and spend my money wisely. I want something that will last a long time, but is portable too. The problem is that usually screen tablets need a compatible device to run and i just have a 4 year old laptop (not sure the model but it's hp) that runs very slowly and my samsung galaxy j7 sky pro. Should I get a brand new laptop and get a screen tablet or should i get a 'studio' tablet (ex: huion kamvas studio 22)? Which one will last me longer and which one is the cheapest option? I'm saving up all my money that i earn to hopefully buy one or the other by Christmas time. I'll be posting this comment on 2 more vids to hopefully up my chances of a response, so sorry if you see me again! Any help is appreciated!

I would recommend you to get an iPad. The entry iPad with the pencil will run you about $450 but if you want it to last for a while get the iPad Air that has better specs but it’s a bit more expensive. It’s great for the go and can be used as an alternative laptop
