Toyota does have to control dealerships, I've owned mine since October and got it at MSRP no dealer addons. However, I had to hunt for my car for 8 months and had deposits down at 9 different dealerships at one time. I had a total of around 17 deposits down in total, 15 of those dealerships came up with rules for the purchase of the car prior to the car arriving. It almost always came around to "you have to finance with us" or "you have to trade in a vehicle to us" or something of that nature. Shoutout to Kent Toyota in Ohio and Andria for making my dream a reality, they're a standup dealership!

Its sad that there’s a lot of guys hating the GRC. A manual, awd, hatch that has a manual parking brakes is very rare these days. This car can literally do anything! I’ve taken it to dirt trails, snowy curvy mountain passes for snowboarding runs and your usual uninspiring grocery trips on the weekends. This car begs to be driven and has that raw feeling.. not sure how to describe it. I have some minor gripes with this car like the lack of interior quality but I bought this car knowing that. The GRC is very easy to maintain yourself being a Toyota and all. There’s growing aftermarket support too if you are into that. I’ve owned this for a year now and overall the experience has been great so far!

The GR Corolla has numerous problems. The engine can't be tuned because the valve train is poorly designed and would need to get replaced. The head gasket will eventually give up. The transmission collars are poorly designed and start failing from the start. The Rear Differential was designed to be larger than the front one.. This is the reason it overheats. I've been waiting for One but won't even bother with it because it's going to be Very Expensive to keep longer than 60k miles.

I lost $10k on that GR, but I wasn't going to keep a $50k Toyota that wasn't going to be taken acre of by the manufacturer or the dealer. So, I say, don't buy a GR. I'm 6'3 and I've had my GR Corolla (Premium) for a bit over 7 months. I've not had any issues with my knees hitting that portion of the dash that sticks out - I count myself as lucky. I will say that the factory shifter is very good but has its moments where it just doesn't feel right. I solved my shifter issues by installing RacerX spherical bushings and changing out the gear fluid with AMSOil Severe Gear 75w90. I'm not keen on the alignment, so I'll be making adjustments to that once I get a few parts. The brakes are fantastic! The engine response is very good, not NA good, but very good for an engine with a turbo. It has front and rear Torsen LSDs (Premium and higher come with them), and that was simply the sweetest music to my ears. :) Overall, it's an incredible car for the price. I snagged the exact one I wanted: a ‘23 Circuit Edition in Heavy Metal (metallic grey). I had to pay $2k over MSRP, but that was much better than others. At the time, Toyota told me that they had no say in what they got, what models, what trim levels, colors, options, etc. They said Toyota just sends out a few to the dealerships, and you get what you get. I was lucky to snag the exact color and trim level…and I knew it was coming before the dealership did. There were a few reasons why I wanted the ‘23 over the ‘24. I don’t care for the decals down the side skirt on the ‘24. It just looked cheap to me. I also don’t care for the PDC sensors. It’s a small car and you have a backup camera. The sensors blend well enough, but it still looks better without them, and one less thing to fail. Lastly, they only offered the ‘24 in white or that blue flame. The blue flame looks cool, and o can appreciate it on somebody else’s car, but it’s not for me. I love the Heavy Metal grey of my ‘23. I don’t know if it’s still true of the ‘24, but in my ‘23 you can look at the VIN plate at the base of the windshield and it’ll tell you which X/1500 you have. Mine is 802. I’m not sure if the Circuit was limited to 1500 for ‘24 as well, or not. Lastly, I do have one question. Is there a reason why when I’m driving with my low beams and fog lights on, the fog light will turn off if I engage my high beams (or if I use auto high beams). It seems like you want more light when using high beams, so it’s weird that the fog lights turn off. The battery being in the rear and the self adjusting clutch have been staples of BMW for a long time now. I wonder if they picked up some of those from the Supra collaboration.

I saw most every Honda dealer charging a lot more over MSRP than I did Toyota dealers. Many Toyota dealers were selling these for MSRP from day one, not Honda dealers. I test drove both of these cars one back roads and the GR Corolla was a lot more fun on these twisty back roads than the Civic Type R. The GR Corolla also came with heated seats, heated steering wheel, an actual hand brake, AWD, and it's a true hot hatch. The Civic Type R has none of these things. My local dealership in Vancouver, WA, McCord's Vancouver Toyota is a MSRP dealer and they don't play games. I got my GRC without any dealer add ons on my salesperson, Rachel, was fantastic. She's helped others get one to help fulfill their dreams too. You have to find the good dealers, they do exist.

But the CTR counters with a better manual, sharper handling, better seats, a much nicer interior with space for adults and more power. They both have their charms.
@jimsgaragetoys4 ай бұрын
@@bearclaw5115 I don't think it has a better manual, they are both very good but my GR Corolla has better feel to it, the CTR is too smooth as it has no feel at all when shifting. The seats are better on the CTR for the track but not for just enjoying on the street, the bolsters make it a PITA to get in and out easily just like the seats on the Morizo and the red seats are an eye sore. The interior of both cars are fine to me the than the color of the CTR, the GRC gets bad marks for no reason to me as I like the layout and interior just fine. Space is fine on both and the CTR can only seat 4 and not 5, I could care less though as I'll never have anyone in my back seat but I see plenty that do and they seem to be fine when I ask them. The CTR is too big to me. The CTR might have a little more power but with AWD the GRC can put the power down better, hence the better 0-60 times and much better in any bad weather.

It definitely makes me miss Scion's business model of no haggle pricing (even though dealers still slapped on useless crap to mark it up). I miss my FR-S every day.
@jimsgaragetoysАй бұрын
@@JJFX- There are so many MSRP dealers though. Back in 2016 I almost bought a new Scion iM for MSRP. Then in 2017 I bought a Corolla iM and got a brand new one with a 6-speed MT for $13560 + TT&L. It was was below MSRP while the Scion iM was just being sold at MSRP so it goes both ways.

I had been admiring this car from afar but after watching your piece, and seeing a ‘24 premium sitting on my local lot for a couple weeks, I ignored the more sensible angel voice on one shoulder and took a test drive today…2 hours later it’s sitting in my driveway. The fact that it’s 100% toyota and the manual-only were big deciding factors for me. This will compliment my imported JDM ‘98 2UZ land cruiser nicely I think! Thanks again and I only regret that I don’t live closer to your shop to help me maintain my 4 toyotas!

Even though as a Honda fan, I love watching your videos and learning the insights in whatever you're reviewing or going through. One definite agreement is that that Toyota dealerships jacking up the price of the cars. One case in point is that we walked into the local Toyota dealership near me and just as my friend who was look for a RAV4 and opening the door to sit inside one. The sales rep said we wanted to mention that all the RAV4's have a 5k over sticker! I grabbed my friend and took her to the Subaru dealership and she ended up with a Forrester at sticker. Never exported it to the DR so we kept it as a mess around car for my brother and I. We each had other cars, but that Charade was so much fun. It was a five speed manual. We had it for years. Yeah, seeing Toyota pull these shenanigans, was the cherry on top for my decision to go with an FL5 instead of the GR. I was shopping for them right when they were all coming out (needed a replacement for my totalled '20 Si Coupe). And I had the FL5, GR, Golf R, and Elantra N, on my short list of potential rides (in that order from my top to bottom choices). The FL5s were just starting to get allocated, while the GR was like a week or more behind. When I went to my local Toyota dealer (part of a huge dealership that included Honda, Hyundai, Acura, Lexus, Genesis, Hyundai, and more) and asked about getting a GR they started on some nonsense about a wait list, blind deposits, huge markups, and some other BS. I ended up sitting with a spreadsheet and just contacting about 100+ Honda dealers in 10+ different states for an FL5. Had markups range from 10K to 35K....got 2 actual offers for 10K over, took those to my Honda dealer (who I got my '20 Si from) which I knew had 2 FL5s coming, and worked with him to get me down to only 6K over. Which I was fine with. I knew back then that was basically as good as it was gonna get (might be easier for some now). Seeing some of the issues owners are having with GRs and Toyota, sort of makes me even more happy I went with the FL5 (sad for the GR owners tho).

Toyota collecting user data and sharing it with insurance is the bigger problem here. No more Toyota for me
@BigBear--Ай бұрын
@@AERoVALKYRiE It's not just Toyota. Most cars that have "smart" connected services do that on some level. Normally you should be able to opt out of sharing any personal or vehicle data. But I agree it's still a worrying step in the wrong direction, particularly with how vague the wording in some of these terms of service contracts can be. The other annoying thing is that often you have to actively look for the option to opt out, rather than the other way around. It's not always up front, or clear that it's automatically set to send the data to begin with.
