What a fantastic post!! I learn something new every time you make a post!! I just past my first year as a reseller and I have watched all of your videos and sometimes more than once. I love the secure password tip!! And the tax tip. I’m decluttering my house and have not had to go out to source yet. I downsized my home when my hubby died and didn’t want to do garage sales. So I am puzzled about taxes. I talked to a couple of tax people but they had no idea about reselling. So now I have some one that understands reselling!! Thank you more than you know. I’m 81 and live in Waco. So glad to know there are other resellers in Waco. Wish we had a club or some way to communicate to bounce off ideas or information or questions.. looking forward to your next “lesson “. 😅

This week I got this ebay message from a purchaser who bought a microphone in a Plastic package that had never been opened: "This item is not the correct item as described in its packaging. This item has a Microphone from a different manufacture. Item delivered is not as described and different than the packaging it was delivered in. I am requesting a full refund." Following your good advice I got back to him with the following two messages: "No problem. Sorry about your concerns. Go ahead and process the refund through ebay, send the item back, and we will issue the refund after we receive it." And I followed that up with this one: " I should also mention that we follow the common practice of videoing the products that we put in our packages, and any returned items are compared to the items in the video before processing the refund. Thanks and sorry again about your concerns." So far . . no word back for one week! Thanks for your help!!

I sometimes *recycle used* priority packaging, in a pinch. *Not the new or unused stuff.* It may not be completely obvious to the buyer that it's actually recycled (depends on how observant and/or judgmental they are), but I just hate throwing away good packaging material regardless of the source. I don't get a lot of it though, so it doesn't happen very often. I've reused the bubble mailers in place of bubble wrap, and turned boxes inside out in order to get a little more use out of them. I returned all of my surplus free priority boxes to the main office, rather than throw them away.

Love listening to your advice Scot. Even 5 years in, these are good reminders. For time off: I am changing gears in my biz, shifting away from used goods and into WS. In this process, my biz slowed dramatically. For now I have weekends off and loving it. So much time to spend with my kids.
@TheChaChingKing7 ай бұрын
The downside to things slowing down is that you make less. The upside is that you have time to breathe and decide what you want tomorrow to look like. We are in the process of changing up things, too. I still love the incredibly rare and valuable items. BUT, I need to incorporate more items that have a higher sell through rate. I'm convinced that when we stop learning, we should just stop doing this. By the way, I've noticed you've been doing more educationally-oriented videos. I love it. I still think you are just about the most creative videographer in our niche.

Scott, by watching your videos you helped me to start selling on eBay. By following your guides and tips started January’24. Been very successful so far in selling, shipping, and managing my business. Been a buyer for 20 years on eBay and as a seller for 😅8 months with 100% rating. Recently sold a dehumidifier that we bought new and was using prior to listing. Item was cleaned, tested, and securely packaged for the buyer. Buyer posted a negative review stating item did not work. After seeing the negative review contacted buyer (via eBay) whom did not contact us first and suggested that item was tested prior to shipping and maybe was damaged in shipping. Told buyer to ship it back and we would give a full refund. Buyer refused to send back. Thinking buyer would remove negative rating sent buyer 100% refund. Followed eBay’s guide to ask buyer for feedback revision which they did not do. Now with 100% tarnished to 98% do you have any suggestions?
@TheChaChingKing2 ай бұрын
I would ask eBay to remove it. You offered a full refund, and they declined. It's worth a shot. At this point, you have nothing at all to lose. The second thing to remember is that the impact of our will be minimal and temporary. If eBay doesn't remove it, just respond to the feedback that you wish that they had contacted you if there was issue. And, let them know that they were issued a full refund.

@TheChaChingKing7 ай бұрын
You still get the same number of "free" listings each month. You don't accumulate any additional fees unless the number you are listing plus the number that is renewed exceeds the free amount. How many you get free depends on whether or not you have a store and which store if you do. If you do not have a store, I think it's 250 per month between new listings and listing that are renewed. After the 250 it's about 35 cents each.

I have listed a few music albums. I clean the album, sleeve and take detailed pictures. But the most time consuming part is, I listen to the entire album and determine if there are any skips. If i can repair the skip, i describe where it was on the album. I charge more for my time but less than the new released or remastered album. It is worth it?
@TheChaChingKing7 ай бұрын
It truly is a matter of how you want to spend your time, the value of the album before & after, and whether or not you enjoy the process. Before I started KZbin, I had a LOT more time to spend repairing items. Some items, like hats, I enjoyed the process enough that it didn't matter if I just made a lot more doing it. I simply don't have the time to do that anymore.

Photography tip: Don't use a white background unless your subject takes up 90-95% of the field; your camera will try to make white look gray, therefore underexposing the item. On feedback left for others, you should know that the box that shows feedback for 1, 6 and 12 months is WRONG for neutral and negative (it will show 0, 0, 0); you need to scroll through each page to see the real neutral and negative feedback.

@TheChaChingKing7 ай бұрын
That size is VERY hard to ship reasonably through the post office. That's one I'd ship through UPS. You run into what's called "Dimensional Weight." In other words, you won't pay for 6 pounds. You're going to pay for a bunch of extra pounds because of the size of the box.

How do I sell things I know will sell quickly? I’m brand new to this. I know almost nothing.
@TheChaChingKing4 ай бұрын
It's a question that LOTS of people have. Definitely not just you. Check to see how many are listed. Then, look at how many have sold. If there are 50 listed and 50 sold, that's a 100% sell-through rate...which is terrific. If there's 50 listed and only 5 sold...10%...that's awful. If there's 50 listed and 500 sold...it will sell just about as fast as you get it listed. Sell-through rate is king! Does that help?

I notice some sellers have incredibly low shipping fees. Are they eating that cost or are they using a 3rd party service that gives them shipping discounts? Besides eBay ship, what if any third party services for shipping and printing postage?

Some sellers include the cost of shipping in their item cost. So, if I sell a video game for $15 and $5 shipping, the shipping is $5. Another seller might sell the same game for $20 with free shipping. Obviously, they aren't actually shipping it free, it's just cooked into the cost of the item. One of the 3rd part shipping services people like is Pirate Ship. I have it and have used it a few times, but there haven't been major discounts over eBay that I've seen.

I don't see the sell rate on my phone. When I'm in a thrift store, I need it to determine whether to buy it.

You have to compare the number listed to the number sold. It doesn't just give you the number. 🙂

Great video! Thank you! I’ve heard before that you should look up what is selling in your own area. And I STILL don’t understand how to do it or why you would want to. Can you help?
@TheChaChingKing7 ай бұрын
Thanks! It's just a matter of doing your search on eBay and then sorting by NEAREST ME and then looking at those SOLD comps.

@@TheChaChingKing Thanks! So only on individual items? Or can you do a general search to see what is selling in your area?

Also, I still don’t understand why it matters. We’re selling globally not locally, right?

The reason for doing a “Zip Code” Lookup is to see what is actually AVAILABLE to source in your particular area. Then you know what to sell and what you will sell. This helps particularly in the clothing category.

Would you say that having a.PO box is a must for reselling online safely? I have been doing this for years without problem until I got scammed with a refund, and I was really stressed out for days, since these people were not that far.

I used my home address from 1999 until about 2015 without ever having an issue. That said, I like using a PO Box.

@@TheChaChingKing What happens when there is a return to the po box and the buyer uses a service other than usps? Do we have to let them know to send through usps only? Thank you!

Why can't I choose all listings that have a watcher and send ALL of them an offer? Ebay won't allow me but a couple at a time.
@TheChaChingKing7 ай бұрын
I'm not sure without seeing it. As long as I'm sending a percentage off, I can send them all at once.

Yes, get out of the house go exercise, go for a walk see the sun 🌞 it’s kind of weird because some of these sellers have a lot of time but then they don’t actually get out even though some people are working like a full-time job and they wish they could be outside. You know that kind of mentality, so yes you’re right move your body take those breaks GET a MASSAGE 💆♀️
@TheChaChingKing7 ай бұрын
I'm super guilty of it myself. You get in a groove and work until your brain and body just quit. When, in reality, your brain and body both last longer if you are getting enough movement during the day.

How can people sell a $5 item $10 item and free shipping? eBay fees plus shipping would be half if not more of that. Is it to just sell to get the numbers high on eBay?
@TheChaChingKing3 ай бұрын
It doesn't make sense to me either. I've sold a few things without a profit to get rid of them and recover some of my investment. But those that are doing it consistently? I don't know how our why they do that.
