"The Bards Song" live is unlike any other experience I've ever had. Two hours of having your face melted by (imo) the greatest Power Metal Band ever, and then you have this super intimate affair. Strangers lock arms around shoulders and sway back & forth to the rhythm. Hansi sings parts, but often just stands there as the entire crowd serenades him. It's one of the most powerful feelings of unity I've ever had in my entire life.

ps - Blind Guardian isn't my favorite band ever (though top 5 for sure), but they are without a doubt the best live show I've ever been to. Most of their songs are so anthemic that audience participation happens every song.

Singing The Bard's Song in the audience in a Blind Guardian concert is one of the most incredible experiences in metal. All the explosive sounds and loudness stops for this one magical moment, where everyone is just singing as loud as they can. Hansi could not sing a single line and every word would be sung.

Completely agree. I watched her analyse Painkiller by Judas Priest and then Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath by the first time earlier today. At first I thought she was going to hate those tracks and dismiss them as noise garbage, but I was pleasantly surprised by how positive, openminded and unprejudiced she is, especially with a music style so different from Opera and the likes. Also really liked the way she sometimes pauses the music and explains little musical tricks that can make a huge difference but for someone like me who's completely ignorant on music theory and such could have never actually noticed. YES! I've been hoping for this reaction. I don't care what I have scheduled in the morning, it's going to have to wait until the reaction is over. when you see and hear 70,000 people singing along, is just becomes one of those magical moments during a live show that any fan of music can appreciate. Both are great songs, but the star of the show is the audience. It still gives me goose bumps and just an overall happy feeling. This band has an amazing and immersive catalog and Bard/Valhalla is just a scratch of the surface.

I think you’ll get this recommendation a lot: If you enjoyed this at all, I think you’ll especially enjoy Blind Guardian’s album “Nightfall in Middle-Earth.” Yes, they recorded an album that was explicitly based on Tolkien’s Middle-Earth. Not only will you find power metal on the album, but also songs that don’t quite fit the metal mold. Blind Guardian started off as speed and power metal, but they’ve become more progressive over time. But anyway, knowing that you really enjoy Tolkien’s literary worlds, I think you’ll get a kick out of “Nightfall in Middle-Earth.”

I grew up with songs from Blind Guardian. And it took me years and years to find out that they actually don't have two different singers, but that Hansi Kürsch just has a wide variation of voices that he applies to his songs - sometimes both ends of his spectrum in one song. It already blew me away back in childhood, and it is still amazing for me today.

Blind Guardian is a band with two sides. When they are at the studio Hansi drives everything to perfection. They work with many different musicans and vocalists on their songs and the lyrics is an ongoing story like a fantasy book. On the other side they are one of the best live bands i have ever seen (500+ bands since 2012). They are not as clean as recorded but interact with the audiance in a way not many are able to. The Concert you're analysing here was from wacken 2016. Three days of rain and then three days of sun. Many people were tired but Hansi was able to wake us all up there. As a BG fan for many years i have to say that this show was great but not their best. They need their crowd to shine and the more BG fans (who know the lyrics) are part of the crowd the better. Thats why i prefer seeing them on their tour instead of a festival show. In my opinion one of their best shows and one of the greatest crowds singing along is recoreded on their DVD "Imaginations Through the Looking Glass". The performance of the bard's song (in the forest) on that one is way better than the one we are looking at here.
@tkn9931
@tkn9931 4 жыл бұрын
The crowd interaction has actually gotten to a point of crowd management at this point. If you have a look at the 2011 version, you'll see that they tried to end the song twice, but the crowd just didn't care and continued chanting the chorus. So that's why he is giving them so much time and talking about his band members taking turns to coninue the song and that's also why he is slowing the very last sentence so much. It's the only thing that worked 2011.

@Caelestan
@Caelestan 3 жыл бұрын
@@KayiaTCM Hehe, you are so right. Actually i have to say that i experienced both sides. The positive and the negative way. First i went to a concert of the "Imaginations from the other side"-Tour, and they didn't have "Lord of the rings" on their setlist. But the crowd wanted it and at least got it. The crowd cheered "Lord of the rings" so many times with such a passion, that the band had a discussion onstage and then played it. And yes, it was not that perfect-played but the atmosphere was outstanding, the crowd was grateful and it was magic. That was in Hamburg, Germany at the venue "Docks". The second one was the same venue, but the "Nightfall in middleearth"-Tour. Same thing, after the first songs started to cheer "Lord of the rings" in the breaks between the songs, quite sure remembering the last tour. First Hansi was smiling, but the more often the crowd cheered that and the concert went on, it was recognizeable, that he was not very pleased. And i don't know why and exactly when, but surely after the "Bards Song" one guy in the crowd showed the middle-finger to the stage and it was clear, that the band won't take the thing that cool this evening. Strange atmosphere (but yet quite a time before that happened) and the magic was gone. For me it was also not nice, because i got a friend with ne, whom i told about the last gig and how magic "Blind Guardian" are. And additional to this, he is a huge tolkien-fan. He asked me after the concert a thing like: "Uh, they did not really want to play today, mmh?" And that was exactly how it felt. Other Gigs i watched from them where more in the category really good and nice atmosphere, but for me they never reached the experience of the first time i watched them. But of course they are still a really great (live-)band. But i have much more nice memories about gigs, like for example Dragonforce with Turisas for support at "Grünspan", Hamburg, Germany, where i had a talk with Sam after the gig in front of the venue and he asked me things i don't want to say here to get him not in trouble 😉. Of course he was quite drunk because of drinking onstage during the whole concert. 😉 I could tell stories about many of these little things. And i like these little gigs much more then the big ones. Wish you a merry christmas and stay healthy! Greetz from near Hamburg, Germany.

fun fact, since you often say "I'm in a video game right now". There is a computer game called Sacred 2, an action role playing game. I was playing it and then one day I just stumbled upon an animated Hansi Kursch. He is *in* the video game. You find each band member, and locate and return their instruments. Then they go and perform the song "Sacred Worlds"... You cannot imagine how super excited I was to just *discover* my favourite band in my (at the time) favourite game. so yes, they are very video game haha!

@@jfourney8913 very true! I've actually cut a lot of American bands out of my playlist and have been playing strictly European bands (Nightwish, Within Temptation, Blind Guardian, Heilung). So many of the current American bands are cookie cutter bands.

That song is such an epic trip. Those last few lead guitar notes on the Tokyo Tales performance are so mystical, distant and otherworldly that they may as well be coming from the actual Valhalla. If I could get that guitar sound just once, I'd be elated. 👑

I only saw them live once, 22 years ago when they still had their original drummer Thomen. And in the middle of the concert, Hansi announced that people from HR3 radio station were there and recording the whole thing. It was aired about a month later. So now I have a recording of the one and only time I went to a live concert!

A couple of things I have to state: 1.) I *absolutely* love your thiefling horns. 2.) Your reaction and analysis videos are amazing. 3.) I *absolutely* love your thiefling horns! 4.) Blind Guardian are awesome - I was at their concerts and this song live was giving me the chills. 5.) I *absolutely* love your thiefling horns. 6.) This one is not really a statement, but a question as I have been looking like a MADMAN to find a D&D stream you're on. Could you kindly give me a link or anything? Especially one possibly featuring your songs? 7.) Out of pure curiosity... what's the best, wildest wild magic table effect that happened to you? 8.) Lastly, I love your thiefling horns and please keep doing what you're doing for a long time! :)

He has an awesome baritone voice and puts on an EPIC stage persona like no other. I think you would really enjoy "Rammstein - Ich Tu Dir Weh (Live from Madison Square Garden). Side note, he kinda likes pyrotechnics..
