@alanclarke81173 жыл бұрын
Diamond Bangers Assemble! The King is finally here! YASSSSSS! I can expire happy now. Blessed with a multitude of voices, timbres, dynamics, shadings, The Insane Dane is Horror Metal personified. He may draw from Alice Cooper, but his heart is Uriah Heep's David Byron (who he named his son after). I draw so much vocal inspiration from this man, it's not funny. Reinforced head voice? A defining leader. "Pretty" head voice (like here and also on "A Visit From the Dead" off of Conspiracy )? You got it. Rough baritone vocal? Check. Growls? Oh yeah. Gurgles, shrieks, bellows, caterwauls? All concert long. Adore, adore, adore. He's been singing these for decades, he was 59 years old here, surviving a triple bypass operation and a herniated disc before that. They are so ingrained in his brain, vocal tract and muscle memory, he could probably sing them with laryngitis. Let's not forget the band; they smoke on the entirety of Songs From the Dead's video, whose production and mixing is basically unparalleled in the King Diamond canon. You can hear everything with clarity, even King's wife Livia, who has accompanied as background layering since, man, '03? In the mid-to-late 80s, King was on fire, creating classics with Mercyful Fate and then his own band, one after another. If you play the entirety of this concert, you will end with the entirety of the Abigail album, played as close to perfection as possible. King is meticulous with his writing, arrangements and production, true state-of-the-art gothic metal, and Abigail stands as one of the three best offerings metal ever produced, any performer, any year, any sub-genre, along with Entombed's Left Hand Path, and whatever you think is best. My faves? Black Horsemen, The Family Ghost, A Mansion In Darkness, Arrival, Melissa (Mercyful Fate), A Visit From the Dead. If this appeals to you, check out albums Abigail, Conspiracy, Them, Fatal Portrait, The Eye, The Puppet Master.

@@austinboucher5286 That's Matt Thompson. He has been in the band since Abigail 2, in 2002. He's a monster of a drummer. Mikkey Dee was the drummer for the first 3 albums. Then he played drums on Conspiracy (the album that this song is from) but agreed to only play in the studio, not the tour. Matt does a great job of playing Mikkey's parts which are of course awesome, and does great with his own drum parts.

The genuine enjoyment and excitement for our beloved metal is a respect that is not only welcomed but well deserved. Having someone of your caliber break it down in such a way helps to wash away many pre conceived notions that have plagued Rock and Metal for years.

Sure, she did her homework and knew that she should expect something shocking, so she was prepared for the experience, but the fact that she really took King's vocals in stride with plenty of room left over to appreciate the music, too, is really impressive! Even given a proper warning, all too many metal fans "nope out" the moment the first hint of King's falsetto vocals makes an appearance - Elizabeth took to the whole experience with a respect and joy that were really heartwarming, even making the connection to Rob Halford's unique vocal style while analyzing King's vocals in a way that few people ever do, and her excitement and appreciation were like hearing this song again for the first time. What a fun reaction!
@MetalAsylumNJ3 жыл бұрын
This reaction and professional critique just further reinforces what us metalheads have always know, and what the uneducated general music listeners don't understand....the sheer talent and brilliance of heavy metal music. From heaviness, to dynamics, darkness, beauty, ballads, an art form. The riffs, vocals, melodies, harmonies, orchestral elements, and overall great song structures with purpose and a chorus. Certain hard rock and metal bands, many, especially from the 70s, 80s, and the past twenty years, are really at the top of the food chain when it comes to one of the most important forms of music
