Gojira's whole is greater than the sum of their parts. None of their riffs or song structures are terribly complicated, but there is something about the way they put their songs together that makes them special and believe me when I say this, there IS no more devastating live band on the planet. Also, Gojira is the band that will take up the Metal mantle after Metallica and even the members of Metallica have said so. They are ahead of their time and they've actually been around since the early 2000s.

This. The DigiTech Whammy pedal, originally made in 1989 I believe. For the benefit of those who are unfamiliar, it's a variable pitch shifter that uses an expression pedal to bend the pitch of guitar notes up to two octaves above the root. In this instance, the pedal is rocked back to zero (plays at root) for the staccato chords in the first half of the riff, and rocked forward to full (plays two octaves higher) for the arpeggio in the second half.

@Apostasy362
@Apostasy362 Жыл бұрын
@@christellemercier9019 The sound we're hearing is the Whammy. A variable pitch shifter is the only way you can get that sound; can't make it without one. You can tell by listening to the way the pitch bends up into the notes at the start of the phrase as the pedal's being rocked forward. I've tried replicating it with my DigiTech pedal before out of curiosity, and while it takes some coordination and practice to get the timing right, the effect is spot on. They're playing the same arpeggio during the verse, just without using the Whammy.

@@christellemercier9019 I'm not the man to say definitively that he *isn't* doing that... but since you more than likely wouldn't even hear it during those passages (I can't), given how harsh and in-your-face the Whammy effect is, I'm guessing he wouldn't bother there. Other places, though... lol.

His vocals are very unique. He doesn't scream, or is very loud at all. His singing is a bit more than talking voice, he just amplifies the mic a bit more than normal to get the volume.

That's actually the healthy way to do growling vocals. Most singers actually do it this way. If they don't, they'll mess up their voice. It's also why I cringe when people call it screaming. It isn't screaming. At least not if it's down the healthy way. It's more about the attitude you feel when you do it and, of course, the technique.

I listened to this song for the first time the other day. Fell in love with it. Mainly because the chorus just sends me back to the 80's of thrash metal. That groovy, melodic guitar sound. Made me fall in love with metal again, oh how I miss classic thrash, like Metallica.

15:10 - Thank you... It's 4 a.m here in Poland and I'm just watching your vids before I wake up to work in maybe 4 hours, just because I was being pretty far from okay recently... Thank you so much for the message, but thank you for that because it will most definitely reach out to many people more like present me, past (I hope I can trust you with that) you, that maybe need those words right now... a lot more than me... Which terrifies me because I always learn there actually can be a lower level of "it can't get any worse" and it won't get better until you see a professional help.

7:15 you talk about how it's almost "soothing or too mellow for metal." It's interesting how atmospheric they make a lot of their music. They are fantastic at writing songs that listeners can really get immersed in. The mellow bridge in this song is almost like the listener has accomplished some daunting task and is celebrating in the end. On top of that, a lot of their lyrics are sending messages about environmental awareness and positivity.

Where dragons dwell is my absolute favorite song ever. Like many of Gojira's songs the message behind it makes the lyrics so much more impactful and the cataclysmic ferocity behind Joe's vocals are the perfect vehicle for that. There aren't much vocals on the song but what is there leaves you truly stunned. Mario also goes absolutely insane as usual, highly recommend giving it a listen.

In the top 5 of the metal scene currently, gems on every albums, and their live performances are stunning. There still have changed a lot since their start in the 2000's, and Joe's vocal have increased so much, in the way that he is not only growling, but speaking, with an extremely raspy voice. No need to talk about his brother Mario on the drums, on of the best in the world. The 2 other members, are very efficient, and bring their touch, and presence as well on stage, and creativity.

Big ups to your shout out for asking people to ask for help!!! We are only singular humans, we all need some help some times. Ask for help people, its uncomfortable, but the rewards are tremendous! I think most people I know want to help and most people are afraid to ask for help. So, there is an imbalance there. We need to connect the helpers to those who need help. It starts by being present LOCALLY!

This was the first song I heard by them. I was at work making dentures and this came on Spotify. Well... After cleaning the mess i made by sh**ting myself out of amazement, i bought the song, listened to it on repeat for the next 6 hours, and then proceeded to buy the Magma album. God i love this bamd more than ive ever loved a band in my life. I'm 34 and ive had many loves when it comes to music. From metal to punk to pop and sh*t I'll hardly admit to liking. Something about what Joe and the band possibly were going through was expressed so heavily and thick on the album that it just connected with me on a deep level that i cant even put ijto words now that I'm trying. It screams loss. It kills me. This album as a whole is an incredibly emotional experience. By the time i reach the last song I'm fucking WEEPING. Please listen to Magma. Start to finish. It's something special.

I remember when I first heard Gojira. First song was "Flying Whales" and the second was "The Heaviest Matter of The Universe". This was one the third song I ever heard from them. I was blown away by how heavy the breakdown was on the the first one... It was right after I had discovered "Domination" by Pantera which has a heavy breakdown after the first solo... I was on a breakdown journey at the time so that's who Gojira hit my radar years ago🤘🏻 And then of course it was Mario's duracell drumming and incredible synchapations and flawless switching between time signatures, with nasty legs on top of that. Especially during improvised drum solos. He really have 5 brains.

I can count the entire song in 4/4. The pushing of boundaries is their trademark. As each record becomes a little more "commercial" they keep that and all the elements that brought them here are still intact. The whammy pedal is set to 2 octave up and they play F, A, B, A (F major 7th flat 5th).

While I don't think Adoration For None would be the best song for a vocal review because of the dual vocals, I'd love to see her analysis of Joe's vocals at 2:40 in that song. To me, that part sounds incredibly technical; the way Joe can do scales while screaming is mind-blowing.
