I have a nephew-in-law and niece in Blackrock NC. He's the town manager. They were without water for a few weeks. I saw on a video that the river had been searched for remains and a stretch near Ashville had over 100 flags in the mud. I asked my sister in Charlotte if he ever heard anything about what FIMA? may have found? My sister didn't know. I don't think the town was told much. If not I don't understand why not? I don't think the death tole was in the hundreds? There must have also been animal remains? I understand the mud that inundated so many towns on the river smelled very nasty. Where on earth do they put it? Years of environmental protection just extinguished as well as hundreds of millions in real property losses. Knick Knacks don't quite cut it when you think how some very pretty areas just got so thoroughly trashed. Uncounted tons of lumber, tree limbs and other forest debris piled up everywhere. I hope it doesn't happen again too soon. Wasn't Helene the second in just two or three years? But you could get very angry at the fact that in spite of the obvious risk and poor placement of lives and property. it can only be put back in the path of the next disaster that no doubt will occur repeatedly. Wasn't Einstein 's quote about insanity being, doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result? But people with any stake in the area can't easily be relocated to safer terrain. My sister said they had below 30 f temps earlier this week. I' don't know how anyone can live in a tend at that temp? Stephanie loves the merchandise and the arts I watch this station for the renovation work that she isn't doing as much of anymore. It's a happy distraction. The renovation of the Chapel was amazing. Since Amaury got injured the Grand Salon work is on hold., I guess?

It was great to see Brighton through your eyes Stephanie! It reminded me of living at a beachfront town at Semaphore South Australia. We too had a pier, children’s coastal railway, the oldest carousel in Australia and a playground along with an amusement park and the best fish and chips in the state. Each Christmas we had a Summer Festival with sideshows and Christmas and New Year fireworks. Ah, but we had the advantage of sunny days and the joy of sandcastles and swimming and surfing. Oh and the lifesavers! 😉😎 I haven’t lived there for over 10 years so you reignited those lovely memories. Perhaps I’ll revisit this year. Thank you! ❤️❤️🐕🎄

Yup, absolutely must eat fish and chips in a gale, on a beach, preferably with a bit of sea spray in your face. It builds character and muscles. I am really loving those felt mice. We need to see them all over the chateau in unexpected places. Galahad will have so much fun. 😊

It's been so fun to see this as I reread a few Graham Greene novels this summer, including Brighton Rock which i must have been 18 or so last I read. I've never been to Brighton, only seen pictures, so it's been great fun to see all the landmarks referenced in the story, and to see that the tuppence machines and stalls are still operating, layering eras of Brightons past and as vibrant as ever. The foitage really shows how grand and vast the seaside promenade, arcades, the pier and beaches really are. I've pictured it smaller. Do they still sell Brighton Rock? I love cockles too, but only had them in France and a seafood place here, never in the UK and not as street food, that's marvelous! Are the Bulôts or Bigorneaux in French ? I know I love both! Thanks for giving us a peak of the grand establishments and carnival fun Brighton is so famous for. The sun, well that's a summer luxury. Cheers! ✨❤️

Ohhhh Philip must have been in his Dutch foodie element! Scheveningen near The Hague was also a royal playground with a pleasure pier! And the sea side street food: cockles and so much more in Brighton, kibbeling and so much more in NL. French fries in Brighton, patat w mayo in NL. Fresh dognuts in Brighton, oliebollen in NL. The lovely mortar and pestle easily pass for modern art! I’m a sculptor.

Fish and chips in Brighton go together like Advent and Lalande---but I'll opt out on beachfront dining on a freezing cold December day. It's a definite yes on the freshly made donuts...and maybe even moving to the Bahamas with a handful of penny arcade treasures. I bet they do great fish and chips there too. Time for a Stephanie and Philip travel vlog from the islands?
