even though my opinion doesn't matter, but i really don't like the fabric of the walls in the bedroom :( not only it is not done well but somehow it doesn't fit with the bed headboard which is beige and with the yellow/pink mix. anyone else shares my opinion?

If you're re-hanging paintings you may want to avoid placing them above radiators for two reasons: the heat will dry canvas and paper thereby shortening the life of the objects and the circulation of air through the radiator will cause dust, etc. to be picked-up from the floor and deposited on objects above .

To the four earlier replies - I am pleased my advice will help you care for your treasures. Here is another tip regarding heat sources and dust. Some of you may notice soot on the exterior of mirrors hung above fireplaces but the reflective surface is in good condition. In this instance, the soot helps maintain the reflective substance behind the glass. This also applies to mirrors above radiators but to a much lesser extent (and read the next warning) Finally, mirrors hung on exterior walls may fail earlier if subject to wide temperature fluctuations - the same may apply to those over radiators. Old things and old people have been the joy of my life (I am now old) and caring for their treasures is like caring for them.

The light switch or dimmer was designed for use with incandescent lamps, where it would continue to pass a tiny amount of current through the filament even when the lamp was dark. But LEDs are so efficient that even that tiny current is enough to allow them to produce visible light, putting in a single incandescent bulb will make this stop. You can replace the switch or dimmer with one suitable for LED or fit a capacitor which will prevent the lamps from glowing. Cheap dimmers have this issue with LEDs. Bulbs by the way grow in the garden.😂

Thanks so much @bigbearhouse! I've had the same experience. I discovered that I needed to leave my one remaining incandescent bulb in and only replace the blown bulb. But now, thanks to you, I know why. 👍👍My other 'issues' are: 1) the led light is different from the incandescent. (I prefer the incandescent light.) 2) When dimmed, the led lights flutter which is too annoying. So in essence they can't be dimmed. And 3) not sure what I'm going to do when my last remaining incandescent bulb goes bad. 😁 I know, I know ... "first world problems" !

Don't worry about the height of the mirror. Notch the lower edge of the crown molding (cove) and integrate the mirror frame so they merge together. Then refinish all of the cove, coffer, baseboard (skirting), door and window casings to match the mirror. You can then decorate the rest of the room to suit. Reworking the cove will be the perfect opportunity to relocate the corbels and center the bed across from the fireplace. It's a lot of work but it will be "beee-You-tiful" as you would describe it!

@@johnwollschlager9827 I don't get the whole cloth wall treatment thing. I don't even like wallpaper. It makes any future change a major undertaking. I recently remodeled a guest bath that had been previously wallpapered. I tore off the drywall and started from scratch. Resurfacing the drywall after removing the wallpaper would have been much more work. There are decorative painting techniques and stencils that simulate wallpaper perfectly. Many people go to great lengths to strip and resurface the exteriors of these chateaus but won't tear plaster down to the lathe and start over. I would have never put up that cloth. I would have delayed the photo shoot, stripped the room and rebuilt the room properly. It would be finished and behind them. Now they have to do it twice. You can take photos any time!

A very nice mirror indeed ! About the sculpture above it is called a trophy. It always has a symbolic value related to the arts, music, science, the seasons, peace/war, nature, gardening or hunting. Yours is linked to country life and hunting. It's a bird catcher's trophy (un trophée d'oiseleur en français). But with a very positive meaning, because as you can see the bird escapes from its cage ... So, it's all about freedom, a very popular aspiration at the end of the 18th century.

If the circuit has a dimmer switch it may need to be changed. LED bulbs generally don't work with older dimmer switches meant for incedescant bulbs. If you go to Brico Marche, find a dimmer switch that specifically says works with LEDs. You don't need an electrician, pretty sure Amaury or someone else handy can swap it, will save you a lot of money.

It's material and needs to be fixed. It is on the list. Currently, the chapel is being worked on, and the heating system finished. They have 5 or 6 bedrooms they are updating. Two of the bedrooms get new bathrooms for the B&B rooms. Amaury will finish the Grand Salon after the heating system boiler room and then work on the B&B bedrooms. The staff bedrooms are in the mix also. After that, I think the kitchen is next followed by Stephanie's study and bedroom.

While we all may prefer traditional or antique furnishings and painting(s)... Stephanie's father was a very accomplished painter in a more modern style, even reminiscent of a Picasso or a Modigliani... and I'm sure she is very proud of him. I have traditional furnishings from all over the world, and my style is very eclectic. We both have family members who are/were painters who are alive and who have since passed on. Their paintings are dear to us and we wouldn't think of not incorporating them into every room where we laugh, love, and live every day.

I'm not a fan of LED, the white ones give me a headache. If you have a dimmer you have to buy dimmable LED. We used to have simple light bulbs that worked, now my local home depot has an entire aisle devoted to just bulbs. Huge pain in the butt for me. I do renos here and there. Half an aisle of light fixtures and one whole one for just bulbs? Think we are maybe being punked?

Next project for Philip in the bedroom . . . repaint the doors and paneling in the same color as the wood of the mirror . . . a greyish green. Then use gold gilt paint to accent the doors and paneling. I think with the addition of the new mirror, it is time for the off-pink architrave to go.

DP says if you have a dimmer on the system LED lights won’t work properly. You’d have to get a special dimmer for LEDs.

@@snoopybluejeans I have dimmable LEDs, but my dimmer switches are not made for LEDs, so it's the dimmer switch that needs replacing.

@@hiris1903 = Agreed. I have dimmer switches but I found here in my area,Vancouver, Canada I also need dimmable light bulbs. The regular LED would flicker. Maybe they sell different light bulbs in other places?

The hat on the mirror is it a cardinals hat. It's a beautiful mirror. It would be good to have a closer look at the detail another day
