It would have been easier if you fed the cable through the hole in the wall then slip the conduit over the cable , then fit the conduit to the trunking whilst feeding the cable through the trunking into the board rather than push the cable through all those angles at one time

Just a tip, I noticed on the testing your voltage was 251v. Obviously still compliant but you might find you get a red fault light on the charger because of the PEN fault system being a bit sensitive. I had it happen to me a couple of hours after I'd left site. If you call Easee they can make it tolerant up to 257v via some remote telemetry. If the client calls you saying it's gone red you can get this sorted over the phone. I do like the Easee, probably my favourite to install.

@@michaeljohnson1006 I think you're getting confused with smart meters. Chargers don't really have any anti tamper tech. Indra probably do the most and it's only a numbered seal on the charger and a cable tie around the ct clamp.

@@Blackf1ngersI don't think you are up to date about the new laws. I think they have a micro switch linked via the SIM card to the manufactures who can call the fraud police. Look at the latest new government laws about smarts chargers it's illegal for a member of the public to open one now! It's so the government can limit when you can charge. Especially over night to limit the Amps

@@michaeljohnson1006 I'm a full time charge point installer! Yes they need to be capable of being limited or paused by the national grid to prevent damage to infrastructure (and also to prevent malicious hacking from foreign intelligence causing the national grid to fail) and all charging data is recorded and transmitted via telemetry. BUT... Domestic smart chargers do not have any kind of tamper switch/reporting capability and there is no legal reason why an owner or an electrician working on their behalf cannot open their own charger for inspection or maintenace. Many of them don't even have SIM cards and communicate their telemetry via the owners home wifi. Zappi and Hypervolt are both examples of this. Overnight charging is the favoured method as there is the least demand on the grid but if everyone starts their charging at 12am then this will cause serious problems so they have a random start protocol which starts them at some time in the next 15 minutes to smooth out the sudden rise in demand. If this was not in place it would be impossible to maintain the 50hz AC frequency or apply any demand diversity when designing local supplies.

@@Blackf1ngers I'm an Electrician as well.😊 kind of annoying if you are on fuel tariff and it started before 12. I don't agree with smart meters and if we get an energy crisis they can turn you off.They can also bring in more expensive tarrifs when everone is cooking dinner its to much big brother. I'm sure I read they were passing a law to make the opening of smart chargers the same as pulling the service cut out or tampering with the meter. Controling smart chargers is to much big brother as well.

Hi mate , nice install , something different and love the Easee. I know you’ve answered the SPD question but my Napit assessor said I should “retrofit” an SPD. I put in quotes and a lot of clients have had it, but it has definitely cost me a few installs . I find it frustrating.

Hello Chris you could have used two right angle 25mm conduit boxes one at the top and one at the bottom then straight through the wall to the charger would have been easier mate just a thought why struggle good job though as Nick would have said.

Only thing i missed why not just follow the mortar lines, in a garage and just under a meter of exposed pipe (left 40 cm are paralel to the CU). No faffing about with the laser line needed, when the bricky went that straight. Also if your pipe is bang on level and the mortar line is of level, eye will tell the beholder that your pipe is off ;)

I've given up on 'mounting to true vertical' because it rarely 'looks right'... Its better to mount to ' parallel to the wall lines'- because builders are rarely anywhere near 'true vertical'... match it to the 'bricklines' or windows...

Tip for drilling up at an angle without guessing: 1. Measure from where you want the hole on the inside down to where the hole will be on the outside (the height). 2. Measure the depth of the wall. 3. Take measurement 1+2 and apply to the outside of the wall where you want the hole, measure down and out from your hole point, this is where the drill bit will need to be angled to. This will give you a near perfect angle, and you should have the hole exactly where you want it to be, providing the drill does not deflect within the wall.

Nice work. It does seem odd that all the distribution cables, which are rcd protected, are covered by trunking or conduit, yet the main incoming tails are hanging down and at a level where they could easily be hit by things?

Another brilliant vid Chris loving that charger. Don't know how you find time to KZbin and work as an SME Hats off. Not to sure on the current capacity calc of the cable but, I do understand the shortness of run argument. Personally I would have run 10mm but 6mm want to do any harm. Heck you may have gotten away with a 30A if the unit it is power dependant not current. Happy to be corrected but- Ze and PFC can't be determined using the same test. Ze requires the worst resistance Main only. Whereas PFC is best case I.E. all bonding available attached. One to establish the minimum current necessary for a breaker to operate in time and the PFC to ensure the breaker can withstand the maximum current applied under fault (not really relevant in most domestics as the supply fuse is 100A or less). PME?????? We work under 7671 which doesn't list PME as a supply characteristic PME is before the supply fuse and is assumed when we have TN-C-S. I like and recommend students watch KZbin but it doesn't help when sparks use VERY out of date terms and show incorrect testing methods. Ref part 722 .411.4 & A722 where PME is bracketed under TN-C-S.

I don't get your comment re Pfc not being an issue with "100A supply fuse". Surely the point is that the short circuit breaking capacity of these fuses tends to be around 30kA before they fail to break; no matter their max load capacity. Also I do think Pfc can be an issue on rare occasions because the MCB or RCBO at the origin of the circuit will most likely have a breaking capacity of 6kA. So if you have a Zs(db) of around 0.04 then you are in danger of exceeding its breaking capicity.

@@geraldelwood9660 in the regs. If the supply fuse is 100A or less BS1360 (?) / BS88-3 (?) the breaking capacity of a circuit protection device is not a important. So if PFC is 8k and the old MCB is 4k it is C3. Or you install a 6k it is permitted. This is a grandad rule. I have not read amd 2 yet.

@@johnbrown-so3vz I didn't base my comment on any regs, just my own logic. The 6mm circuit conductor is obviously not protected by the 100A main fuse. Hence it's only protection is the MCB / RCBO at the origin of the circuit (C.U.). If the SCC is likely to be higher than the max capacity of the protection device to cope with, (often 6kA) then there is no protection for that circuit !!! or am I missing something ?

Isn’t 6mm t&E in conduit on a wall 32A maximum as per regs? And it’s on 40A mcb? Also the charger has a type A RCD protection not type B RCCB… Might want to check your info before posting lol

Not an electrician, but at 2:04 shouldn't the supplier fuse have blown before the supply cable got hot enough for the insulation to start melting?

Not always, high resistance connections in the head could cause leaking and wouldn't cause the fuse to pop as it could easily be under 60/80/100a Been on a job where a huge house was on a single 100a with an ev, pool heat pump etc, and was cooking the main fuse, wasn't even a high resistance joint, the main fuses don't blow till you are well over.

It’s not the insulation of the cable that’s melting, it’s the bitumen that was used in the old days to seal the end of the cable in the cutout. They all leak, always have and always will. When the new cutout is fitted, all the pitch will be removed and the cable will be sealed with heat shrink instead

Leaking bitumen is not a sign of and overheating of the kit. The cutouts are not sealed tight so when, in this case the weather is hot, it will soften and flow, indoors its the central heating that causes it. The bitumen is not actually necessary. Many of the cutouts were not filled at all. its just an over engineering issue from past practices.

He installed the charger, not part of RCD within the board. If he did install it within the dual RCD, then you’re right, it would trip both RCD’s as there is no selectivity between them both.

An RCD purpose is to monitor against an imbalance between the Flow and return. And MCB monitors an overload or a short circuit. An RCBO is a combined unit of the above. Hope that helps you mate

I deal with voltage complaints for a DNO if it's 250 during the day the charger will possibly trip out overnight the DNO will tap the local transformer down if this is the case

I know what your saying but anyone competent would see where the cable and conduit is for the charger and visualise where a horizontal line would end up above the charger and just not fit anything there But to be honest your very unlikely to hit as you'd only be going 40mm deep for fixings anyways?

how come you have installed the charge point on an installation that has visible signs of thermal damage with the bitumen that's come out of the service cable, then adding the extra 32Amp load of the charge point added surely that's a notification to DNO prior to the installation as required on the ENA notification

Regarding the onboard Rcd, my NICEIC assessor said to double check the spec and see if it complies. Also where is the test button for the rcd? I was told to ignore onboard RCD’s and fit a DP type A rcd in the board. Bit painful
