I don't live in a rural cottage either, although I did grow up in one, but I really believe you can create a similar life in the city. You can still grow things in the garden if you have one, or in pots, if you have a chimney you can create a real fire etc. There's so much you can do. It''s also about slowing down. If you can't move to the country, bring it to you.

How wonderful Paola! That little bit of wallpaper adds a magnificent splash of color and contrast in your cottage. I also love the evergreen embroidery on your bedspread as well. Yes some men do notice those kinds of minor, but significant details. Are you dipping your feet into basket weaving? Hurray for you I believe, after some start up frustrations, you’ll find it to be quite fulfilling. You know the best thing about making your own craft items is that you are able to make it exactly how you want it to be. As for thrifting nearly all of my woodworking hand tools are working antiques. The quality of those tools is far superior to anything made today plus they still contain many years of usefulness in them. Oh there truly is nothing better than having the intimate contact through a hand tool with a beautiful piece of heartwood cherry when making a new cherry Shaker kitchen work table.

I now live on Whidbey Island in WA and I'm so fortunate to be able to work from home as an author. Whoever your partner is, im terribly envious of that very very lucky person. It's very easy to be swept away by your beauty, warmth, and soulful intelligence. Bravo for living so well and being so kind and thoughtful, and creative.
