Disney wants us to symphatize with Wanda for losing her imaginary kids even after enslaving an entire town, Thor lost his actual family, and home world. He's the most tragic hero in the Avengers and they want us to laugh at him.

And the joke mate? He actually told jokes still. Still he had humour. But it was deadpan, it was sarcastic, it was contextually appropriate. 'I bid you farewell and good luck morons' 'Notice you copied my beard?' And yet he was badass, he was a soldier of fortune, he was on a mission of revenge. Yet here he's a dopey, bumbling, stuttering, 30 IQ moron, who exhausts everyone around him (the Guardians multiple times share a look of exasperation at him, like when he goes on a tangent then smashes the temple they were supposed to protect or when he gets told off by the kids for being completely aloof and not helping, or when he falls into the New Asgard pillar and everyone looks at him in dismay). Christ this movie was an abomination.

@@Fuchsfeuer This is what I always say. IW was THE PEAK of the MCU. It'll NEVER be better. Ever. Endgame was not BAD. But the fat Thor thing was lame.... they could've made him still broken and drinking his problems away and not made him a fat bumbling idiot and his character would've been better but nope, "fat big lebowski thor funny funny!", then the all girl Avenger scene, plus introducing Time Travel in to a story which TT as a plot device will 99% of the time fuck up a story.

That's kind of been the MCU Tony Stark effect, sadly. Characters that didn't use to be excessive quipsters (Thor, Hulk, etc.) are turned into stand-up comedians, while the characters that actually *should* be doing the quipping like Hawkeye (who is boring as hell in the MCU) or Spider-Man lose one of the things that makes them unique as characters.

I not long posted agreeing to a similar post. There is no place for nudity and objectification regardless of the gender in any Marvel movie where parents take their kids to see it. As soon as I saw this scene in the trailer and all the hypocritical women would be shouting "sexist" and "misogynistic" had it been a naked Natalie Portman tied up, simping over Hemsworth like he is a piece of meat in the comments, I cancelled my Disney+ subscription explained why. I told them that this isn't equality or feminism (not the proper one that actually wants equality) but just misandry. I then told them where they can go with their blatant double standards and they won't get another penny out of me for as long as I live.

Lady Sif was Thor’s last Asgardian friend and one of his longest friends as they grew up together. Despite this, the writers decided to play her death off as a joke. A joke that mind you, might and I repeat *might* ,have worked if it were just some random warrior and not her. I mean it’s almost like the writers just completely forgot what she meant to Thor.

She doesn't die in the film, but I agree that her injury was treated like an SNL sketch. It seems like Taika is fixated on the idea that there can be no sense of loss, urgency or real stakes since it's a "comic book story" and thus inherently colorful and silly. The few serious moments in the movie were almost immediately undercut with jokes.

The thing about Ragnarok was, the movie had actual competent writers with Taika's humor being a good support. The humor was well appreciated as it came off the heels of a depressing Thor movie. Furthermore, the humor made sense in most cases for example, the cutting off of Surtur's initial speech at the start of the movie made sense as the ropes binding thor turning made sense. It was within the realm of sense of what could happen. That was also followed by another joke of the executioner's ladies being scared off by, lava dog goo. It set up his character well as an egotistical person who was more occupied with impressing them any chance, which in result made him turning away from Hela at the end of the movie a small, satisfying character arc. The main thing however, is how the script gives the emotional and serious moments a chance to flourish and develop instead of fucking them over with stupid jokes (*cough* Shrek 3 *cough*). Even as a dumb 14 year old, this movie felt, off. It felt like a cheap and boring movie that exploited incredible amounts of work with character building, emotional moments from better, older films rather than a fun, goofy but amazing story.

honestly what you said about the child's point of view is such a good point. Someone pointed out that the silly stuff in ragnarok could be forgiven if it was thought of as Thor retelling the story for children. Love and Thunder felt like a big family romp, but with more sex and violence. If they had dressed it down to be a kids movie it might've been stronger. Like, the part where the kids get stolen, there's a good bit where Thor calms them down and assures them he's going to save them, but then there's never any real fear that a marvel movie is going to harm children. People would still complain, but at least it might be a more cohesive movie.

Gorr in the comics was no joke. He massacred countless pantheons with ease, tortured a god of torture till he broke, managed to enslave countless gods to make a bomb that would ripple throughout time and space to kill every God ever, held his own against Thor multiple times even when there were three of him and in the end Thor couldn’t beat him. It was only once he realised that he himself had become a god did his ‘child’, which he created out of grief and power, kill him, essentially committing suicide. His origin is also way better. He and his people were in a barren wasteland of a planet and had to trek through it. Over time members of his tribe would die of dehydration and starvation, all the while the priest would say it is the will of the gods and they shall be rewarded. Eventually Gorrs wife and unborn baby are killed, leaving him to raise their child. Eventually they died as well and when the rest of the tribe told him that it was the Gods plan, did he flip out. He denounced the Gods, called everyone fools and was exiled from his people, left to die. Near death, Gorr would encounter two wounded gods, one in gold and the other in darkness. The golden one asked for Gorrs help and Gorr went berserk, taking the dark Gods weapon and slaying the Golden God. Believing all gods were selfish, uncaring and cruel beings, unworthy to live let alone be worshipped. From that point on he made his vow, “All Gods Must die.”

Notice as well how people have been ABSOLUTELY brainwashed to think Wanda is 'the most sympathetic character who lost the most' in a Universe where 1) Nebula: was stolen as a child, forced to fight her 'sister' in combat training, systematically physically and mentally tortured and broken down over years and years to be an evil killer (having her eye ripped out, things like that) and cyborg, the living embodiment of Thanos' monstrous machinations against her will until finally she embraces them as the only life she can live, as well as: 2) Bucky, a man almost killed in action in a World War, essentially giving his life to serve his country, instead he loses an arm, spends near 70 years in the capture of his enemies, is continually put in the brain blender so that his mind, try as it might, is melted down and rebuilt into a Nazi super soldier machine who was the silent killer for their atrocities over the years, can experience and remember every one of these horrific experiences he's been made a flesh suit to enact, loses his entire family and every one he knew and loved, loses his entire life from 70 years before and, like Steve, is forced to acclimatise to the 21st century thanks to finally being broken out of mental captivity by Hydra, but is framed by Zemo and, on the basis of 1 grainy CCTV picture, marked for death (to be shot on sight) by the thankless governments of the world despite his previous service as a war hero, despite not being confirmed guilty of his supposed crimes, and is then hunted and attempted to be assassinated by T'Challa (who abuses his royal power to imprison Bucky as an intended War Criminal with no evidence), is then brainwashed by Zemo into killing more innocents against his will, and then finally is almost killed by Tony thanks to Hydra having used him to kill the former's parents, people he knew. Bucky finally escapes and is given the tiniest reprieve in Wakanda before now having to fight in a Universal war, which sees him finally killed in action all these years after World War 2. He's revived and what does he do with all this trauma, all this horror, all the endless nightmares and guilt and persecution and manipulation? He goes to therapy and first avenges his time as the Winter Soldier before then amending it by going to the people who Hydra used him to wrong during his time as a super soldier cyborg assassin for the death cult he once fought against. And these pricks try to force the opinion that Wanda suffered the same and more, as Bucky, Nebula and Thor? Absurdity.

Gorr was the only standout for me as something of value here (beyond Jane’s ticking clock). He was compelling, threatening, and terrifying (he actually made a kid cry in my theatre), but the problem is that he’s in a different movie from everyone else. @jmhaugen4757

I watched a video that went over the God-Butcher story arc, and given what the Drinker explained of this movie...ya, Gorr was WASTED here. In the comics, he's not just crying over a dead child. He watched his people squander themselves in devotion to gods who never answered their prayers. He watched his son and wife die, all the while being told "just pray harder." He was thrown out of his own tribe for daring to question his people's unwavering faith as they starved. And then, when he actually got to MEET one of his people's gods, all he saw was a pathetic, mewling creature begging for help (the god had been grievously wounded in a fight with another deity.) Gorr doesn't simply kill gods. He LOATHES them, with a hatred so fervent it'd make the most hardcore religious zealot jealous. And when Thor gets on Gorr's trail and goes to find other gods, all he discovers is butchered corpses. Not killed; BUTCHERED. Nailed to trees, eviscerated, torn apart...Gorr exacted an undying vengeance against the very concept of divinity, and you could FEEL his wrath in every scene depicting his handiwork. Giving Taika Wahtiti a villain of that caliber was a mistake. Actually, giving him another Thor movie appears to have been kind of a mistake.

We are supposed to take her misery seriously, but with Thor, its joke, joke, joke, joke, joke with him. Lets compare shall we? Thor has loss his mom, dad, his sister stabbed his eye, broke his magical hammer that he cherished for years, his brother Loki and his best friend (Heimdall) were killed in FRONT of him, lost his home, most of his people were killed by Thanos, was left for dead floating in space, almost died constructing Stormbreaker, and had to live with the terrible fact that he failed to stop Thanos and became a depressed drunk. Wanda loss her brother, had to kill her robot boyfriend, enslaved a town and forced them to act out her fantasy because she couldn't handle grief like a normal person, proceeded to slaughter innocent people and Heroes so she can steal kids who did not belong to her in a different universe, and was willing to murder an innocent teenage girl to do it. I am in complete agreement on this. This one scene alone, and its blatant hypocrisy angered me so much that I wouldn't watch this crap if Elon Musk handed me a blank cheque to fill out. The fact that they have turned Thor into some himbo piece of meat joke is disrespectful to the character and they wouldn't dare treat their female superheroes in such a way. I had to explain to my kids why I was cancelling Disney+ and why I am now done with all Disney content. They will never see another penny of my hard earned as long as I live now. I also notice how all modern media is now also preaching body positivity and to not be "fat phobic" but that only seems to apply to women too. What men are being told by this scene is that they need to spend hours in the gym every day to get a ripped physique, and be one of the 5% very well endowed, something men have no control over, like their height. Essentially the same lie told by the adult industry which is shown to have a damaging effect on young men as well as women. Given the suicide rate is much higher among men, I find this rather irresponsible. I miss the old days when feminism meant wanting equal rights for women. I was on board with that. When Playgirl came out, feminists were saying "if men can objectify and look at naked women, then we should be able to objectify and look at naked men". That is completely fair and what I regard as equality. This, whatever this crap is, it is not equality, it is double standards plain and simple. The feminists these days are saying "it is sexist and misogynistic to objectify women, but it is okay for us to objectify men". They simply want to replace misogyny with misandry. Neither of which are good things to have in society. On top of all that, this scene and where they are going on about orgies, is absolutely not appropriate for kids. If my kids were 8 years old I wouldn't take them to see this any more than I would have, had that had been Natalie Portman or Tess Thompson tied butt naked and objectified in such a way. They shouldn't be objectifying anyone in these movies, regardless of their gender.

Yeah, quality dipped significantly after the infinity saga. Even no way home had a LOT of rewrites said by tom holland i think, vfx artists are significantly stressed out by the output and consequent workload asked of them by disney. They need to really streamline their content(content shouldnt be longer than they need to be), all the disney plus shows have been chore to watch through, very emotionally taxing, it needs a big revamp, they need more competent writing or if they have competent writers, give them more time, plan waaay ahead, 6 years ahead. Disney is on a downward spiral, a snowball of decreasing revenue, the higher ups are surely stressed out. Who is even gonna watch she hulk and echo? Sickofans will pay to see charlie cox and vincent d'onofrio. Everything is just jokes that dont land STOOOOP. Had a huge tangent there, i'm just very disappointed, disney needs to keep their grubby hands off marvel and keep the people they hire in check, can't have a lead actor who replaced an actual voice actors character he played for years call people in the internet idiots(lightyear).

Fun fact:The reason why Gorr's All-Black Necrosword looks so underwhelming in this film is because one of the All-Black necrosword's powers is too manifest any weapons the user want but they gave this power to Hela because they said that Hela didn't have any power that were exciting or cool to look at. The reason why the All-black Necrosword has this ability because it's the first and strongest symbiote made by Knull the creator of the symbiotes. That's why in the comics when Gorr gets the necroswor it becomes his new clothes and he doesn't hold the sword it just manifest around his hand. Sony owns the rights to Venom, Carnage, and Knull also all Marvel symbiotes which is why the movie doesn't explain or hint where the necrosword comes from. I wrote this comment for all the people who were wondering where the sword came from and they will never explain the necrosword because it gets destroyed at the end of the movie.

The one thing that helps redeem this movie in my mind is realizing that the whole thing is Korg's telling of the tail. That accounts for all the over the top and ridiculousness that goes on in the film. Doesn't make it a great film, but does make it easier to watch.

Christian Bale was fantastic as Gorr. Honestly, the highlight of the movie. As for Natalie Portman, I think it was more a Taika Waititi problem. She has moments where she kills it - like the washbasin scene, or the one in the hospital before Thor leaves to go to fight Gorr. Of course, Taika has to undercut every serious scene with a joke.

I caught so much shit for not being a fan of Ragnorok, like yeah comedic relief every now and then is fine to prevent a movie from being completely grim, but you need to let serious scenes breath for God's sake. Lord of the Rings is a perfect example, it has moments of levity and some comedic relief from the likes of Pippin and Gimli, but it let's the epic moments play out. Imagine if when Elrond gives Anduril to Aragorn he takes the sword and then drops it and goes "uuuuuj sorry hehe" that's Return of the King by Waititi.

@@jonbradley4044 Exactly, your entire home world is exploading and some character needs to go "yea, definitelly gonne after that". Actually not any character. Character voiced by the actual director. I watched Thor 4 feeling like I am too old, that I would need to be 10 to enjoy this. Btw. the hospital scene where Natalie Portman has a moment with Thor, the joke which was said there was "break a leg" and Thor goes something like "oh I am gonna break more than a leg" or something like that. To which I kinda gave it a pass because that might be something actual humans might say to lighten the mood a bit after a heavy conversation like that. But the rest was just .... I agree with one of the comments. Thor is the most tragic hero of them all given what he has lost, and they want us to laugh at him.

The concept of Lady Thor has always baffled me. Thor is not a secret identity, like Spider-Man or Superman. It's the name of one specific guy. A guy from an actual, real-world mythology. If Thor had a name like Thunderman for example, someone else could take his place. But you can't just take his actual name, and say you're him now. In the same way, Thor can't just become Jane Foster. He can become a doctor like her, but he can't actually take her name and identity.

She's king enough to buy herself some lesbian formalwear and pose in meetings like she's in a fashion shoot or a perfume advert. She's just not king enough to stick around and shoulder her responsibilities should they ever turn out to be dull or difficult. Truly, the gracious and wise leader Asgard deserves. "I'm only worthy of the hammer because you taught me to save people, Jane." That was rich when both Thors watched all the children of Asgard get captured and decided they'd rather stand about making small talk than actually rescue them. BUT IT'S FUNNY BECAUSE THE GOATS ARE SCREAMING. ISN'T IT FUNNY? BECAUSE THEY'RE GOATS. AND THEY'RE SCREAMING. LET'S DO THAT JOKE TWENTY MORE TIMES IN CASE YOU DIDN'T LAUGH THE FIRST TIME.
