Is no one else questioning HOW they got Missandei? Euron's fleet sunk the ships from a distance. They never raided them. The survivors swam to the shore of Dragonstone, with the ships sinking in the background but no Euron fleet near the wreckage. Missandei was told to get to the skiff, so the directors could argue that she was caught rowing away or something, but she would've been heading towards Dragonstone where the others were swimming. We also never saw her get to the skiff, so we don't know if she even boarded it. So, skiff or no skiff, HOW did Euron get Missandei? How did they know where to find her among that fleet, and why capture her and not a bunch of Daenerys' soldiers just to bring her army down? If they could reach Missandei and capture her, surely they were close enough to just wipe out the remaining soldiers, who were struggling to shore. I also don't get how Grey Worm and the others figured out that she was captured. I honestly thought she had drowned, which would've been a more realistic death, given the circumstances. How can anyone, who just got away from a sinking fleet by swimming through rough waters, decide "Missandei's not here? Last seen on the sinking ship? Yeah, she was definitely captured by Euron." Doesn't make sense at all.
@13fails5 жыл бұрын
Totally agree here. On top of that, what was the scene with Tyrion jumping off the ship and getting hit by the mast from the ship - cut - and next scene he's fine?!
@lorddanny29885 жыл бұрын
@@13fails Probably would've made more sense if he was captured instead. It was implied that he was knocked unconscious, so it would be more believable if Euron found him drifting in the sea or something, plus it would be much better to kill the hand of the dragon queen rather than her translator. It would hit her emotionally and it would also hinder her war plans, plus it would get rid of the man who was trying to keep her from doing anything stupid, which would thus let Daenerys snap without anyone holding her back. The whole thing with Missandei felt so random and was just poorly executed. I really think these writers don't care about the characters that much.

Can't we Humans shoot Helicopters out of the sky with assault rifles if they fly too low or too close to a mountain? My personal biggest issue with this season is how suddenly have the characters are acting completely different to what has been built upon over the 7 previous seasons. Some examples: Tyrion - One of the smartest guys in Westeros but in season eight he is suddenly an idiot? Dany - Was someone trying to be a fair ruler but with some tyrannical tendencies. Now we will just put things in there to make her a full on tyrant. Jaimie - One of the longest and best arcs of redemption in the series. Comes to a fitting conclusion in Episode 2. Now in Episode 4, after Bronn shows up to kill him at the hire of his sister - I am a bad guy and need to go back to her. Totally destroyed seven years of a guy struggling with redemption and finding himself outside of his sister. Bonus - Throughout the previous seven seasons we have seen Jon, Sansa, Tyrion and others show intelligent approaches to battle. But we put some of the best military planners in Westeros in a room together and they run the battle against the White Walkers like 12 year olds who never have been in battle before? This whole season seems like characters are completely different from what we have seen built up for the last seven.
@SerbAtheist5 жыл бұрын
Tyrion's flaw has always been that he is too trusting and sympathetic of people, especially his family. In S2 he thought he would actually be rewarded for doing a good job as a hand, i.e. making his father proud, instead of being relegated to Joffrey's martial sloppy seconds. Dany always was a full blown tyrant. It was only Jorah and Missandrei, the only people she had a true human connection with, that kept her worst impulses in check. Jaime's story was never about redemption. He was from before the show the guy who killed the Mad King and saved Westeros only to be constantly given sh*t for it. So he always had good in him. But he also always had evil in him. He has always been in a superposition of good and evil. His sadistic streak never really went away and he was perfectly willing to kill Emdund's baby had he not accepted the ultimatum. To the extent he did have a redemption arc, he always kept regressing to his bad self because of his love for Cersei. There have been detailed analyses of the Battle of Winterfell straategyy by medieval millitary experts and most of the episode comes out OK. The Dothraki have little knowledge fighting defensive battles so why not gamble on a initial charge. Everything else was about as reasonable as one could expect given that the were fighting a completely novel and inscrutable enemy.

@@SerbAtheist I won't comment on the characters but I will on the battle. Medieval military experts is hogwash. We don't live in medieval times so their is no such thing as an expert, but here goes. So the main strategy was to lure out and kill the Night King, not face the hordes of undead face on. That was clarified in Episode 2 but in Episode 3 we go with the facing the hordes head on. Yeah right. The enemy was not novel. Episodes like Hardhome and other encounters made them well aware of this enemy. Thus all the dragonglass and Valyrian Steel. For cavalry, there is no such thing as defensive - they are ALWAYS used offensively. Look how they were used in The Battle of the Bastards. A common medieval defensive strategy would have been to let the dead come to them. First wearing away on the lines with missile and siege weapons. Then tie them up with well formed infantry - such as the Unsullied - then have the cavalry come in from the flanks. Even in medieval times they used what was known as combined arms. In addition, no sane military tactician "gambles" with isolating 200,000 of their troops. Especially in the face of an enemy who will add those 200,000 to it's ranks with such a gamble.

And even with its flaws at least that the characters were still themselves in season 5 (which really was a bad season) and there was still epicness. Yeah half the unsullied and half the Dothraki survived that mass suicide--I mean "battle." Nevermind they weren't anywhere to be seen. Nevermind the show itself played off how dramatic it was that the Dothraki charged the enemy front line--because that's what cavalry do--and then there was a dramatic silence in where all the lights of their swords were extinguished. Nevermind the show played up the drama on how Grey Worm ordered his men to protect the retreat and then pulled the bridge behind them, essentially dooming what remained of the Unsullied. Nah fuck all that, we get to have our cake and eat it too! Everybody died! But half of everybody survived!

@@kstee2298 Bullshit!!! People write because they have a passion for it. They get better at it over the decades of doing it & then the payoff arrives. This is a natural order of applying a passion & building great work. If you read the books, don't you think that some of the wisdom in those pages were things he had learned in real life? So why do you think that because he's rich & famous, he suddenly turns into a massive simpleton who only cares about money?? The reason it's not finished is because of writer's block. This happens a great deal when you write a giant epic. Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time was never finished by him. David Gerrold's War Against the Chtorr stopped abruptly in 1993 & he still hasn't completed it now. What we're seeing is some kind of side-effect for writers that choose to write giant multi-thousand pagers over decades. Somehow they burn out or block up before they can finish it. Maybe they don't know how to finish it, or maybe age is a factor. This has nothing to do with money.

The thing is that 90% of people on KZbin are making far better alternative episodes each week, proving that D&D and all their team of scenarists are completely, totally an fundamentally unable to understand even the basic idea of what makes ASOIAF great. So my question is : what the heck ? Where are those people trained ? How can it be so hard to simply hire a bunch of hardcore fans for a fistful of dollars to ask them if the plot of each episode make sense ? I mean, I'm sure they could even find hundreds if not thousands of geek fans who would be ready to help them to write coherent, logical, tactically acceptable scenarios in regard with actual character development and with the lore of Westeros...for _free_. And each episode would be much better than this pile of shit. I mean, even my friends that did not read the books are able to spot plot hole and to imagine much better scenarios that could actually fit in the GRRM universe. The problem is that they're all ingrained in Hollywood culture, and the current trend in Hollywood is Postmodernist Deconstructionism, wherein they try to be original and unique by deconstructing commonly held tropes and archetypes. However, they don't actually UNDERSTAND those tropes and archetypes, so in the process of deconstructing them, they throw out important, fundamental storytelling devices and concepts. When they do this, the stories end up being flat, boring, confusing, and generally of poor quality, because they lack the most fundamental building blocks required to create the kind of concise, believable, engaging stories mankind has been telling for hundreds of years. Maybe longer, seeing how deeply ingrained these concepts are to most of us.
