A coworker once gave me a lift in her car, and I thought the car was brand new, it was so spotless, but she told me it wasn’t new at all. She had had it for years. I said how do you keep it so clean? She said she never eats in it. Never. No Starbucks, no fast food, no snacks, no candy. I was amazed. So if we always eat at a table we will automatically keep our cars cleaner. Thanks for the great video!

My husband and I don’t forbid our child from eating or drinking in our vehicles, or ourselves BUT we detail our vehicles ourselves regularly and they remain looking new. Pride in ownership. A rarity these days, but most certainly obtainable!! When I sell any car or trade, dealers are blown away. Feels good and we get a bit more too.

Thank you for all the elegance tips. As a person who is learning so much from you, but at the same time (maybe this is oversharing) am learning that I am probably a very high functioning autistic woman, I can say that for all my life I have struggled to make eye contact and at the same time be able to concentrate on what the other person is saying. Eye contact can feel so intense and so intimate. I agree that eye contact is important because some people will not further their engagement with someone who is struggling. Someone with autism may come across creepy because they are so aware of this problem and may be trying too hard to give eye contact. You do not need to have perfect eye contact to be a good listener or have interesting things to say. It is hard to keep trying when we feel repeatedly dismissed for this. So my tip, always try to be patient and kind, you may not share or fully understand another person's struggles.

Thanks for letting us know. I will certainly keep it in mind... Direct eye contact can also be interpreted as bad manners in some cultures. About the clean car. I have five kids and I made a rule that everyone (including myself) must take ALL ITEMS out of the car as we arrive at home. No exceptions. That’s my method too! All my life. No empty water bottles, no hair pins no straw papers, nothing is left in the car. If I am running errands and have accumulated some trash before I get home, I will drop it in any receptacle that is on my last stop. Or I will put everything that is not for the car, including trash, into one of the shopping bags I’m taking out of the car anyway and sort it when I am unpacking the bags. Having a little OCD helps but it’s a habit that can be easily learned.

On watching your language, I was raised in a swearing house but have tried to cut out all curses the last couple of years too. I found having go to clean phrases for my most commonly used swears was helpful. But then next step is refrain from exclaiming altogether. I used to "Jesus Christ" and "Come the f*** on" all the time as expressions of frustration or incredulity. So step one was saying substitutes like "geez" or "seriously?" Step two is not vocalizing in an exasperated manner at all. It's remarkable at how much controlling your words actually betters situations and prevents you from being huffy.

I recently suffered through the most horrifying incident in a department store. My purse fell out of a cart onto the floor, Upside down, spilling all the contents including the sand from the beach, crumbs from whatever, and 300 (exaggeration) little ponytail holders because I have three girls. My two teenage girls were oscillating between utter humiliation and complete hysteria. They will never let me live it down and I’m sure the people in line behind me have a good story to tell😂😭

Hello Jennifer. I’m new to your channel, but have learned a great deal in such a short time. Thank you for the inspiration to live a more graceful and polished life. I’m looking forward to your July assignment “check-in” video. In the meantime, would you kindly share the name of the book you mentioned re. being well spoken? I’d love to read it in preparation for your review video. Thank you!

Your a beautuful elegant lady. I could listen to you all day. Yes, I am guilty of a few things on that list. My posture, I walk around with any finger food, chomping away on it and I do things in a hurry. I definitely will work on those areas. Thank you Jennifer for this eye opening video.💕

This :) US tourists coming back to Europe drop this all the time now which doesn't come across as "less elegant" here but as insulting. This wasn't common back in 2019, is it a new language fad?

I loved your suggestions! How thoughtful. I've been watching Netflix's "Crown" on DVD. It's remarkable how calm, cool, and collected Queen Elizabeth was at such a young age. She was always thoughtful and never reactive. She sought input from others and listened. What a role model. Thank you as well for sharing how to be thoughtful and elegant.

I love dressing and being elegant at home, church and my job, but my experience where I live in the Caribbean as a single woman, appearing too soft and feminine anywhere else out in public makes me a target for sickos. Looking polished makes one look kind of wealthy too. Because of this, I sadly have to wear just jeans and tops that lessen the attention drawn to myself. Shoes must also be comfortable for running and kicking. Handbag can't be too flashy either. Sigh. I still try to keep everything neat and clean though.

@@greener336 You're right, sis 🙂. I'll just keep the faith that one day it'll be safe enough to not have to switch from an elegant look to dressing like I'm ready for combat just to go downtown.

Love this! I recently started implementing the Fly Lady system (as much as I can with a newborn), and Friday is car day. It has been helpful to me to have a set day to clean my car. That said, when you started talking about cleaning your car, I paused the video and went out to my car to clean a stain that has been bothering me and then ordered a hand-held vacuum. 😂 I’d love to know to what book you were referring. I’d also love to see a video on book recommendations. This was an excellent video! Thanks so much.

Here are more: 1. Don't talk while you have food in your mouth. 2. Eat slowly and don't shovel food in your mouth. 3. Don't chomp on chewing gum. And use Queen Elizabeth as a reference when you want to know how to act with etiquette.

My mom taught me how to keep car clean. I tuck a few small plastic bags in a back seat pocket. When ever there is trash or something that shouldn’t be left in the car, I bag it and bring it in every time or every other day- then there’s no build up!

The tip that hit home with me is not to hurry. For some reason I used to be in a hurry out of habit, not even because I was running late. I always arrived flustered, out of breath and probably a little bit sweaty, lol! I’ve learned to slow down, but it’s still such a struggle for me. I think I often have a too ambitious “to do” list and I rush around trying to get everything done. Posture is a tough one for me too. I love these tips though, because it’s never too late to improve an area of our self presentation. Thanks Jennifer!

Another lovely video, Jennifer. : ) One strategy I have found helpful for both creating an air of mystery and keeping a tidy work station is to completely de-personalize my cubicle at work. There are only practical, work-related items at my desk, and I have had many people comment on how "boring" it is, but I find it much better for working and being more mysterious. : ) I would also add "speaking lower and slower" to being well spoken. All of the loveliest conversationalists in my life speak with a more controlled and measured pace, and a "lower register/tone at the front of the mouth" (if that makes sense!). It is so pleasing to the ear. Voice lessons are definitely on my list of avenues to explore this year. : ) Thank you again for the encouragement!

I love this video, especially what you’re saying about eating only while seated! I used to work in public schools and I saw all kinds of bad habits developing in the classroom including allowing kids to run around while eating. Drove me crazy and when I was in charge, this didn’t happen. I also disagreed with allowing them to watch movies during lunch. I believe kids are better off learning how to pleasantly converse with the people around them at mealtime. Kids don’t need constant entertainment, but that’s how they’re being trained. They are also rushed along... throughout the day. Home schooling so much better. 😊

All of these are exceptionally good tips! I for one am trying to make sure I sit while eating, especially my kids. That's where the practuce of elegant table manners start. Dignified dinning!😄 Breakfast and lunch are the ones that are the hardest to instil this rule! One suggestion for posture - take an online beginner ballet class. You will find your good posture immediately! Even if you are not a dancer. I have seen non dancers go from slumped to straight and lengthened instantly! There are a million free classes on KZbin ladies - and it's fun! Great, GREAT second part to this topic.

@kristiLB932 жыл бұрын
@@Julia29853 Absolutely! I'll list some of my favorites because they offer beginner through advanced classes on their channels, as well as strength and stretching workouts. Just search the name I list and you'll find them. Katherine Morgan - former soloist with the New York City Ballet. You can find all kinds of beautiful classes on her channel and lots of interesting dance information. Lazy Dancer Tips - I can't recall the company she danced with but this is the perfect channel for non dancers in my opinion. Great , sweet teacher! Maria Khoreva - a first soloist with The Mariinsky Ballet in Russia. She has loads of excellent stretch and strengthening workouts and ballet classes sprinkled throughout (the ballet is pretty high level) She gears it towards everyone but bare in mind she is a super high level dancer - don't let her amazing skill level scare you off. She is lovely in personality and in her teaching! Canada's National Ballet School - Adult Ballet with Ian Parsons - there are only a handful of these classes by Ian but they are soooooooo wonderful for the beginner and he is really lighthearted and funny during the class. He is a top notch instructor. Any of these are a great place to start. Just choose what you like best. I wish you well!!!

Do you have any advice on how to break habits on speech? I can tell that when I'm tired or stressed I start to swear a lot more and I would really like to just not swear. It feels so harsh to hear it especially when I'm around people who don't swear...Also, I just stumbled across your videos and I'm so glad I have. I've recently turned 32 and I just feel like I can't participate in this culture of sloppiness and glorification of trashiness anymore but it's hard to know where to start since no one talks about being classy in a positive light. Your videos are really helpful so thank you so much :)
