They are letting the insurrectionist who ransacked then sat with his feet on Pelosi 's the desk to profit from his crime at $100 a pop! That's illegal! Maybe not everywhere? Same thing happened in Mauritius. A huge group of slaves escaped and found refuge in a mountain at the south west of the country and when slavery was over in 1835, British soldiers went to the top of the mountain to announce the slaves the news and the slaves thought that the soldiers were here to capture them and bring them back to their owners, and they all jumped from the top of the mountain and all commited suicide. UNESCO declared the site as world heritage site and we have a Abolition Day public holiday each year.

I grew up in Texas where Juneteenth has been celebrated for a long time. The important thing I would share with white people is that we don't have to plan or run Juneteenth for the black folks. If you are invited to a party, go and enjoy, but don't take that weird potato salad with oil and chives. Just take a ridiculous amount of beer.
@lorebay25933 жыл бұрын
Or raisins😅
@UmmYeahOk3 жыл бұрын
Beer. Gotcha. I was gonna just bring fried chicken and watermelon, but then I remembered anything I say or do is probably just a tad bit racist, even though white people consume these two things a whole lot more often. I know that I certainly wished they were a lot more common at backyard picnics. But on the subject of Texas, I too grew up there. As you may remember, we have to take Texas History in school, so I’m assuming it’s 4th and 7th grade for everyone. I remember reading about Juneteenth in the 7th grade history book sort of like a foot note. I was confused by this because I had never heard about the holiday. It wasn’t printed on any of the 20th century calendars. I didn’t know anyone who celebrated it, though African Americans were in the extreme minority at the time where I lived. We had like three students, and I dared not ask them about it. We have Cinco De Mayo, Lunar New Year, St Patrick’s Day, Pride Month... ...Juneteenth should be a holiday! It has more reason than any I think. Its like Tulsa and Tuskegee... ...why are so many of these things not more widely known? The people need to know.
@ammaleslie5093 жыл бұрын
@@UmmYeahOk Juneteenth *is* widely known among black folks already, especially in the South.
@UmmYeahOk3 жыл бұрын
@@ammaleslie509 probably so, but the very fact that I was completely oblivious to it, to the point where once I found out about it, from all of things, a book, I could not find any examples of the celebration, is sad. Those rare few people of African decent who lived in my community, if they even observed the holiday, (many aren’t originally from Texas), they did so in secret. And by “secret,” I really mean just celebrating amongst their own friends and family who all share the same culture. Nothing wrong with that or anything. Just that, if there were Juneteenth celebrations happening in Dallas, I didn’t hear about it because I lived in a predominantly white suburb, during the late 20th century and before Web 2.0. Of course, now that it’s on everyone’s iPhone calendars by default, it’s a little easier, but back then, no. Maybe they talked about a parade in downtown or something on the news, but at that time, every June, I didn’t watch. But clearly Trump and well, most white Americans never heard of it, which is disappointing. I mean, we celebrate Cinco De Mayo in Texas more than Mexico does. And what’s that? Some battle of the French? Wasn’t even for their independence. But Juneteenth literally is about independence and freedom, American freedom, not to mention a reunion of a divided country. Never heard of Miss Opal Lee. Had to look her up. I am glad she worked so hard to bring awareness to a holiday I frequently would forget ever existed. That is how unknown it is outside the community that celebrates it. I mean, if Kwanzaa is a thing we all acknowledge, why shouldn’t Juneteenth?

I had a lot of bullies when I was in school. It was so bad that I don’t remember much of middle school at all. But when I started high school, one girl who had bullied me apologized. It meant so much to me, and I forgave her right then and there. I sincerely hope she is happy and healthy today. So, I think that when people apologize AND change their actions, then forgiveness will make everyone feel better, and who doesn’t need to feel better right now?
@sarah184973 жыл бұрын
Random rant: I had a few bullies in elementary. I was considered "too tall" and it got worse when I had to wear braces. (Small injury) I have no idea how someone can forgive a bully... Bullies don't pick on their targets for one day. It's weeks. Months. Years, for some people. I hate bullies. Even the ex-bullies who are "better people now." It's their angry faces, the way they LOOK for you on a daily basis...the way they call you every name in the book. The mocking, the following, the hair pulling, the pushing, the spitting, the punches, the way they turn everyone against you... So much anger...for so long...during a time when they are supposed to be innocent children. One of my bullies apologized to me. She was obviously trying to heal her own scars...she also tried to invite me to her baby shower. 😂 What a loser. I turned her down and she was so angry. :) I hope nothing but misfortune for her. She went too far for too long. But I'm glad you seized the opportunity to forgive one of your bullies. I know that lifted one of your many burdens...but it still matters...I'm happy you have a kind heart. But as for me... Bullies... I understand most of them are simply impulsive. They are unhappy at home... But I think back on the days of being shoved into the wall...and I cannot feel any type of sympathy for those angry brats. I have a child of my own and it scares me to know one day, he might deal with bullies. His father and I will do our best to be on his side and support him if he ever has that issue...
@cjradenbaugh3 жыл бұрын
@@sarah18497 I’m so sorry you had to go through that. If it means anything, the bully that apologized to me wasn’t one of them that traumatized me. But she was a bully, just not as intense as the others. As far as this one girl goes, she was one incident away from being expelled because of what she did to me (I honestly don’t remember what she did). I knew she had a horrible home life, but I still regret the time I could have gotten away with kicking her in the face. She was crawling behind people’s chairs and tying their shoes together. It was obvious, but I acted like I didn’t hear her and her friend giggling, and when she got to my chair I planned on “accidentally” moving my feet back quickly and kicking her in the face. It would have been the perfect crime. But at the last second I realized that wouldn’t be nice and didn’t kick hard enough. I did almost hit her though. And if I could go back in time, I wouldn’t chicken out. Even my mom, who hates anyone getting hurt said she wishes I had kicked her. If she ever apologized to me, idk what I’d do. But that other bully was sincere and was never as bad as that one girl. Don’t feel bad about not wanting to forgive. Forgiveness is hard to reach when you’ve been hurt so incredibly bad.

I'm sure you have heard this but Juneteenth celebrates when the last slaves were actually freed in Galveston, Texas, two years - not two months - after the Proclamation Emancipation. Love your show! Can't wait to see you back in the studio! :)

Yes, you are correct in that the emancipation proclamation went into effect in 1863. Obviously, though, the Confederacy did not recognize it as law until they surrendered in April 1865, and some places like in Texas refused to accept the law for another two months when Union forces finally forced them to. So Trevor was correct in saying that slavery ended with the end of the war, but that some of the enslaved peoples did not find out for two months after the South officially surrendered.

I have made a major move in my understanding. That you for exposing Juneteenth. I work at the Veterans American admin after being a vet. This is a walk up to Americans.Thank you. I can share how Minneapolis VA has for the first time acnowledged this holiday. I find it sad that just because of the color of my skin, says i am not lovingly accepting of our people. You make a great point, but thats not me. Come meet us in Minneapolis.

We celebrate Juneteenth as a federal holiday, but we still can’t get voting rights?

Blacks can’t vote? Why would anyone want to anyway, keep picking rich people selected by richer people knowing inside that your vote don’t matter but still doing it
@DarkMight1173 жыл бұрын
@@riddlesjackstorm9003 You know, you really shouldn't say your vote doesn't matter. Because at some point millions of other people will say their vote doesn't matter, and then that will be millions of people who won't vote and millions of people can sway elections. But I mean you are right. Your vote by itself doesn't make a difference. But your vote with millions of others can.

Sadly enough a lot of us were not aware of Juneteenth until it became a holiday. I have personally spoken to our people who did not know. I said shame on you for not knowing, so they call others who were not aware. Sad

11:00 in the mind we see the world as a blank piece of paper, with anger and violence providing the ink to draw small pictures. in my mind, I see the world the same way, but I acknowledge that the blank paper is all of the goodness and normalcy, with the aberrant and abnormal behavior providing a distracting contrast. we still have not learned, as a species, that "together we stand, divided we fall." unfortunately, the nightly news is nothing more than an art gallery focusing on the ink.

The funny thing to me about Juneteenth being a federal holiday is who else is going actually celebrate it besides black and other people who are in a relationship with a black person. Are the other races in America really going to celebrate this holiday? I don't think so, but when it comes to race, I'm a bit of a pessimist.

Imagine working your entire life without question and without pay, then when you here the news on Juneteenth. The families stop working and looks at each other for a few minutes, uhhh does anyone know what we’re supposed to do now? I honest wouldn’t know what to do.

the end of the civil war mark the end of slavery in the southern states of the union. It had been over in the north (except new jersey) for 30 years, but for most northerners they had been free and living integrated lives for almost 50 years.

Why y’all saying slavery ends!!!!! 2021 just modern slavery!! I don’t think we are asking for holiday we’re asking reform of law!! Younger generation need to bring revolution other. Juneteenth another excuse for governments to be off and get paid for!!!!
