I've been "given" a truck with a Cummins 24 valve. Your videos of diesels, and Cummins specifically, help me and show me what and how to repair things when the time comes. Things are working good right now but ya never know. Thanks for the vids.

@techedtchr The cummins in the TAN truck is shot. It will need everything. You would be surprised at how many people try to eliminate blow by, by installing injectors, injector pumps etc. The only fix to blow-by is to rebore or sleeve. BLOW-BY denotes the escape of compression and combustion gases past the pistons and piston rings into the crankcase. All engines have some blow-by. Excessive blow-by is usually found by higher oil consumption in the tan truck it is pure oil coming out.

@slicemadice We are not talking about this motor. We are talking about the motor in the TAN truck. But yes the rings would be a little part of it. The big part would be the wear at the top of the bore. I have seen the top of the bore worn out by .060 of a inch with perfict rings and have major bolw-by.

Good vids man. Ive seen pistons with really badly burned star patterns on the pistons and rings siezed and broken. Thats one of the things that can happen from tuner programmers

@TheDieselStop That's right. Hence not needing to take apart the bottom end. I imagine the Cummins in the tan truck is going to need more TLC than this one.

@dawg1157 I think you ment to say Crankshaft and not Mainshaft. There is no need in going that far into the motor when it looks this good. The motor is a 93.

If you were doing a full rebuild could you remove the mainshaft, connecting rod end caps, pistons, etc...or is better to have a machine shop do all that for you? I apologize if you've covered this already but is this engine a '97 as well?

Hey, do you know how much oil a cummins 6.7 holds ? I'm taking our comanys Freightliner M2 Business class for a oil change tomorrow and the guy who's doing it thinks it takes 10 gallons, I'm like NO WAY! Maybe if it was a 855ci . this truck only has 10k first oil change.

Are you going to pull the bottom end out anyway or just leave it intact? I mean, with the shape that engine's in, there's no real point. I'd just inspect the bearings and be done with it lol. Funny how the truck was beat to shit and abused but the engine's perfect.
