Obviously she was raised with love. Can’t imagine the pain she and her original parents were going through. I don’t for one second blame them. The cost of such things is immense. All those saying “you shouldn’t have a pet if you can’t afford it”, this is not a usual cost, but an extravagant one. It’s easy to judge from the outside. I’m happy it all worked out. My girl gives this two paws up (and then eats the bacon off the counter)

@Sobaka The Husky Years ago my husky was in a accident , I took him to the emergency room and had to use 3 c cards to cover his 2 day stay. I then had to transfer him to a regular vet for continue of treatment for a week. I explained my finances to the vet and they put me on a payment plan. I cut my expenses to the bone to pay it off ( I could have bought a brand new car for what that one accident cost me). I have not regretted it for one second and would do it again. My boi crossed over the rainbow bridge at the age of 15 P.S. Sobaka is beautiful !!

This clearly well loved and friendly dog was almost certainly the result of not being able to afford bills. They did the right thing by rehoming her, but i truly feel like this was not a neglect case. This dog was taken care of and was somebody's beloved pet before she became sick. A collapsed lung would make it extremely difficult to eat. I don't fault the previous owners because they decided her life was more important than her being theirs.

Exactly. When an animal becomes ill they often don't eat like "normal". Hell we had a black lab that seemed to be literally part goat--he'd eat anything in his reach that remotely seemed like food. One hot summer he wasn't eating as much (not unusual for him with summer). But there were little puke spots all over my multi-pet house. Finally figured out it was him. One day he puked up a part of, then the rest of, a 4 inch foam center squeaky ball he'd swallowed. Whole. How that dog didn't get super sick I'll never know but he was just fine after that.

I was thinking that. The owner couldn’t afford the surgeries, so they gave the dog up so it could get the surgery , but if the rescue could pay for it why not do so and let the family keep their dog? Kind of a bitter sweet ending.

Yea… but what I don’t understand is why these families can’t get help from some of the organizations that end up paying for the surgery. I have a little rescue that my ex and I share custody of and he hurt his back leg, so I took him to a vet that was opened on the weekends and they wanted over 2000 for X-rays and a surgery to repair his hip. I couldn’t afford it. Their solution was for me to give him up and they would cover the cost….. I said NO. I went to cash out for the vet visit and they had the audacity to ask me to contribute to a pets in need program that helps pets who owners don’t have the funds…. I asked if I could apply for it and they said no. Took him to our regular vet that Monday and it was a bruise leg where he was jumping around and playing so much. 50 bucks and a few pain pills and he was good as new. Called the other place and asked for my money back and they gave it to me. I just wish we did better when it comes to our animals health and helping those who need it while keeping their furbaby home with their families.

Juneau doesn't act like she was abused. It's likely that the previous owners couldn't afford the surgery, not that they were bad people who didn't love and care for their dog. I rescued a dog that was tied next to my car. It was dying and I'm sure the previous owners knew it. She clearly wasn't ever abused so it's more likely that they knew that I would save her because they couldn't afford the vet bill and save her themselves. And the first vet told me that I should just euthanize her. I took her to my regular vet and they saved her life. Neither vet gave me a discount though even though I rescued the dog. Rescuing dogs isn't cheap...

@@cindykauffman8294 Unfortunately, many just can't afford to buy pet insurance. The reason why so many pets end up in the shelters or abandoned around here is because people simply couldn't afford to care for their pets. Our shelters have tried giving pets away but they just can't find enough people who will adopt and empty their cages. I personally rescued all of my dogs, all of which were abandoned. 2 had been badly abused and one was dying from a digestive tract blockage. And those are only the rescues that I've kept. @Cindy Grajales You should always check that everything that the vets recommend is absolutely necessary whenever possible. Vets will often recommend stuff that your pets don't really need. And if they tell you that you need to buy specialty food that only they stock, you might want to get a 2nd opinion... I have 2 dogs that are terrified of having their nails cut. It's always a traumatic experience when I have to take them in for this procedure. I'm usually there to try to comfort my dogs when the staff is cutting their nails, but last time, they decided to do it without my help. He said that it was a wrestling match with my first dog. He came out with dog poop all over his shirt after doing my 2nd dog. That probably could have been avoided if I had been there to help... Vets deal with challenging pets like mine all the time. I doubt that they'll increase your charge if your cat struggles against his vaccine. It seems like they're already making a decent profit off of them. They're not cheap...

Very sweet dog and glad she was able to have the operation. All former pet owners are not bad people. They just cannot afford the thousands of dollars for surgery. The cost of surgeries for animals is astronomical and should be affordable to people. Well off or comfortable people should not be the only ones that can afford pets. I'm glad Juneau got the care she needed. I'm sure her former owners loved her and it broke their hearts to not be able to afford an expensive operation. Vets really should consider animal welfare first over cold profit. That said, i wish this dog and her new owners well.

This hit close to home. 15 years ago we loss our last beloved dog because we could not afford vet care. I was 14 at that time, this dog was given to me and my brother by our godmother. We absolutely loved him and took care of him the best way we can. My mom was so devastated because she blamed herself for losing him since she was not able to take him to the vet. We were so helpless. He seemed fine and playful then one day he just stopped eating and the next morning my mom found him dead. We were at school and she called us that we need to get home asap, she waited for us so we can see him one last time. It was so fast. Looking back I wish we have him now that we are already grown ups and have money of our own so we don’t have to worry paying their care anymore. That was our last dog, my mom swore she’ll never have another one. It was too heartbreaking.

This kinda thing happened to my second Pomeranian. She was rushed to the vet. The surgery was $5k and had a significant chance of failure. I was given the choice by my parents whether to put her down or give her up to a Pomeranian rescue and it's obvious what I would pick, I gave her up. My older pom cried for weeks (they've been together for 7 years) and it's been over a year and I can tell she's still not over being alone. I lived in the US for many years and was surprised at the high cost of vet services. I was lucky to have a well paying job to afford the care. I am now living in Belgium where a visit to the vet costs around $40. House visits (yes!) are a little more expensive. Yesterday, the vet came to my house to check upon my 16 and 20 year old cats. The visit, one injection, and some tablets cost me $70.

Most of the previous owners in videos like this deserve the "you're an a**hole" comments; for abandoning their dogs simply because they didn't do the research into how much work needed to go into caring for a dog. However, the previous owners in this video did what they thought was best for Juno. This isn't a case of "This dog is too much work, just put it to sleep and be done with it." This is a case of, "We love this dog, and we don't want her to suffer; but, we also cannot afford to take on the financial burden of, potentially, long-term treatment for her. So, if she has to go, she should, at least, be surrounded by people who love her."

I don't think it is necessary to talk about the owners in such a negative way. They probably didn't have the income to pay for treatment. And most vets absolutely refuse to let people make payments. They want the money up front or they won't treat the animal. I have often wondered why the rescues don't offer to pay for the treatment and then let the owners keep their pet instead of making them surrender them.

@Shannon Nelson Because that would be yet another move away from individual responsibility. Why should anyone encourage financial strapped people with the idea that, if they buy a pet and then can't afford it, someone else is going to come along and pay all the bills? @@keisreeman Ugh….another one of those “don’t get a pet if you can’t afford it” morons. What you, and so many other morons like you, fail to realize is that this isn’t a normal pet expense. This isn’t basic necessities like food and water, but a highly expensive surgery. I’m willing to bet that when her previous owners first got her, they either didn’t know about the lung issues or she didn’t develop this problem until later on. This isn’t something that people can just predict happening, and not everyone has thousands of dollars laying around just in case something unexpected like this happens. If the shelter cared so much, they should have paid for the surgery and let the original owners keep her. She shows no sign of abuse, her thinness is likely the result of loss of appetite for her illness which, I reiterate, her original owners probably couldn’t afford the surgery for.

I don't like how they frame the family making it seem like the family chose not to do it on purpose. Maybe there was legitimate reason like they can't afford the thousands of dollars that it would cost. I'm glad there was a way to get that husky treatment but if the family didn't have enough money to fix what was wrong and that was the reason why they opted out of surgery, please don't make it seem like it was worse than what it is. Vet bills are extremely too high same with doctor bills. Also, please don't tell me that you should have the money saved up in case something happens because there are tons of people who own animals take really good care of them but can't afford when the animal gets sick if you took all those animals away from people do you know how many more would be in shelters!?sorry I just didn't like how they framed this I would like more of a backstory on the family and the reasoning on opting out of surgery during a video like this.

Thankfully, his healthy brother could donate blood and we could afford the treatment. He's okay now but 1. A skinny dog is the saddest thing to see. 2. Even humans cannot afford their family's healthcare sometimes and are forced to give up treatment. Stop vilifying people who are subject to an inhumane system. This foundation could have paid for the dog's treatment instead of taking it away from the owners.

@FurnitureFan

@@AnimalEmancipation I don't see how that is in the best interests of the dog. The dog would obviously prefer to be with the family it already loves. Instead it's taken away and has to adjust to a series of strangers while recovering from surgery. That isn't the best thing for the dog. As I see it, a charity could help out with the veterinary costs, but rehoming the dog is the wrong thing to do. It's a penalty imposed on the family to make sure they regret being poorer. It has nothing to do with helping the dog to get better.
@sarah4hp
@sarah4hp 3 жыл бұрын
@@FurnitureFan What about the next time the dog needs such care, is the charity just supposed to pay yet again? As someone who at one point almost moved out of her home to rent a small room at a friends because she couldn't afford to keep both her home and her dog at the same time and there was no question about which one to lose, I absolutely get struggling financially, but yeah... blaming the rescue for rehoming the dog is just wrong. Owning a dog is expensive, especially if it gets sick and needs treatment, that much should be clear for anyone deciding whether or not to buy a dog. It is a living being you are bringing into your home, and that you are committing to taking care of for the rest of it's life, so if you can ONLY afford that commitment if your pet remains in good health for the entirety of it's life, do NOT buy a pet, because they might NOT remain in good health for the entirety of their life. In fact, they probably won't. I get that your financial situation can change, and that what was affordable and doable when they got the dog might no longer be so, but if that is the case, then a new home is the best for all involved.
@FurnitureFan
@FurnitureFan 3 жыл бұрын
@@sarah4hp Yes, certainly if the dog is only bought as a guard dog, and chained outside, then there's no such bond, and the dog will be better off with loving people. But if the dog will pine for its home and family, and feels loyalty for them all, then the dog will suffer if someone doesn't help the family with costs. I believe that when people donate to a charity for the purpose of helping dogs, they will have considered all of that. Honestly, I wouldn't object to a charity helping out a family that the dog loves and feels safe with. Not when the alternative is to take the dog away because of money. I feel that's a legitimate purpose for any charity. When I was younger, we had a rescue dog whose owner was too sick to take care of him, and when we walked him, we always went to visit her. He never forgot to bring us to her house to greet her. He accepted that he lived with us, but he did need to check on her too.
@sarah4hp
@sarah4hp 3 жыл бұрын
@@FurnitureFan I don't disagree that it is sad when someone has to give up their dog because they can't afford to take care of it, because obviously the dog bonds with it's owners in a very real way if they are good to it and treats it well. That being said, I can't agree that a charity should pay for treatment on the owner's behalf as that is in no way a lasting solution. Help the dog, get it healthy and ready for a forever home, and then find the dog a home with owners that will be able to care for it going forward. Sending the dog back to owners that can't properly care for it due to them not having the necessary finances to do so, will only result in the charity having to pay all future vet bills for the dog for the rest of it's life, and then being unable to help new dogs that needs it as all the funds are going to all the dogs that were sent back to owners who remain unable to pay the vet bills. It is a sad fact that owning a dog is very expensive, especially if they get seriously ill, so if veterinary care isn't something you can afford dog ownership is not something I feel you should enter into. It is, after all, another living being that will have to suffer or be put down because you decided that you didn't need to factor in extremely high vet bills when deciding whether or not you should get a dog.

I think it would help a lot of dogs due to the size of your platform, and the before and after videos would generate a lot of views by the donators

If you cant afford medical bills for your dogs or any other kind then dont get one. Common sense.

It is unfortunate when life gets rough. If we take care of our society better we wouldn't have to give up our pets. Societies where they don't have to worry about medical end up doing better all around. I imagine that would include being able to pay for a vet bill. I know some would judge. But I'd judge more if they just left the dog on the side of a road.

You don't adopt a dog or any pet unless you can take care of it.

Even after 20 years of rescue work it always surprises me how some of these babies can make such a full recovery despite what they have gone through. Then you have some no matter how long they live after rescue that never fully recover. Has someone who goes out to the shelters and bring in some of our new rescues and also foster. I could have 10 straight fosters and I care for them but it's not something that I think no one else can do this baby any better. Then you come across this one certain German Shepherd that you realize you want to keep and have him or her part of your pack. If you stay and rescue and fostering long enough everybody fails fostering. It's not a bad thing you will have some people especially if you're in a large rescue that will try to make you feel guilty. There's nothing to feel guilty about. The whole goal of a rescuer is to do right find a life you save. When we come across the people who try to make our volunteers feel bad about adopting their foster. Depending on what they might have said or even an action that person is ask to leave. Anybody who has ever fostered has done so because you love helping and if that love grows to where you cannot give up your foster that's also great. Myself I actually adopted one German Shepherd that was being fostered. He suffered such abuse at such an early age that he was very scared of most things. If me and my wife or kids are yelling up and down the hallway to each other he gets behind a piece of furniture and would hide. He could never figure out that when we would yell up and down the hallways it wasn't fighting it was us being too lazy to go to the person we were yelling towards. He actually outlived all of his brothers and sisters that I had adopted. 17 years he was with me. I never resented saving him from the shelter and then gave him a forever home and his very own brothers and sisters. My other foster were called forever fostered. That's when for whatever reason mostly medical that we do not adopt them out that if the foster wants to keep them at their house you can and the rescue pays all medical bills. Even when you're just fostering most rescues will tell you to keep receipts for food or any medicines that your fostered required. I can honestly say in 20 years maybe one person turned in receipts for a dog food. If someone isn't sure if having a dog is a good thing or a bad thing reach out to your local rescues or shelters they're always looking for volunteers fosters. Most of the time if you just want to join a rescue and they have a large kennel where they keep the dogs that are not in foster care for whatever reason you can just volunteer to go to a kennel and walk dogs on the weekends or during the week whatever your schedule is. And that day did you decide that you want to keep one of your fosters or one of the babies you were walking then you know what to expect. Sorry for going on and on. It's just when I see babies like this in such poor condition I just get overwhelmed. I cannot even guess at how many dogs that we have picked up or had owner surrender that was in this condition as his husky and in some cases even worse.
