Thank you for posting that! 😁 a lot of people forget the ear thing and then they unintentionally cause more harm than good… most people don’t want to hear this but never help an animal if you don’t know what you’re doing. Call a rescue or leave them there. It’s extremely sad to leave them there but people who aren’t trained and/or well educated in saving that specific species can and will easily accidentally cause severe harm and lower the chances of a safe and successful release

This is kinda how the deer that I raised found me. We found his mother, she died giving birth to twins. His brother was also gone. So we bottle Fed him every 4 hrs with warm heavy cream and formula. Living on a dairy farm helped. We were up at all hours and the cows were protective of him as he grew up. They keep the coyotes and bobcat away. He left after 18 months, but came around to visit often. He wanted his sliced apples. He was a beautiful buck. He trusted us.He lived to 6, before an illegal hunter took him. We didn't allowed hunters outside the family to ever hunt, mainly we had lost to many cattle. And Harry had an ear tag just like the cattle, so no one was to shoot him. I heard the shot, it came from a pickup truck on the road shooting into a pasture. I saw him from my tractor. I immediately went to the pasture, I at first didn't see him because He was down and so many of the cows were surrounding him. The shooter saw me and drive off, but we knew the truck. He said that he thought it was to dark for anyone to see him. I found Harry, put him in the bucket of the tractor, hugged him for hours then buried him . This was 5 decades ago and I'm crying now thinking about him and how delicate life is. I now an old man, stuck inside and will be with all my friends soon

The fawn was abandoned because it is a "Piebald Deer", which is a deer that has white fur due to a mutation. Many times, the mother will abandon the deer, but even if the mother attends to the fawn, the white in their fur often gives their position away to predators. Seeing an adult piebald deer in the wild is a rarity, so if you do see one, grab a picture! It's an exceptional survivor!

If anyone is ever in this situation, do NOT give a deer cow's milk. They can't digest it and it can dehydrate them even more or even kill them. They can have goats milk (best option) or kitten/puppy formula. Every year hundreds of young deer lose their lives because members of the public find a deer fawn that is on its own and appears to have been abandoned, and then they unwittingly interfere and cause infinitely more damage than if they had left the fawn alone. Bill I never lost my faith in humanity whatsoever I know that there’s more good people out there still. But yeah I totally agree with you takes a really really really special person with an extremely good heart to do something like that you know Because it’s not like your dog or cat you can’t keep a deer as a pet at least I don’t think you could. I mean if you have lotta grass in a good yard then you could keep one I guess for a pet But because they’re a wild animal they need to be in the sanctuary you’re a wildlife center. If it was a dog or a cat then yeah you could just take it in but they had to call the animal wildlife rescue in that so it was harder lots Lots lots harder to take care of that dear Dogs and cats you can just bring them in the house and then there you go with dears you can’t do that. Which if you have a good yard size yard and you have lots of grass I don’t see why you couldn’t keep one you know outside but I don’t think in the states you are allowed the most states you can’t so yeah Other than that yeah that was a very very very kind thing to do helping that little deer because it’s obvious he didn’t have a mom otherwise he would’ve went back and they would’ve never found them again so he’d be gone if the mother came back for him Obvious in those 24 hours that his mother had died somehow if you hunter or she got hit by a car I don’t know but he was obviously without a mom so that was very very very very kind of her to do that for him Because once he got released back into the wild he’s probably with his herd with the same heard he got away from you know. He probably did find them eventually and went back so I’m hoping so so yeah So I hope now he’s happy and he’s back with the other deer in the wild where he belongs.

That and the way his legs were bowing, very obvious signs he was getting dehydrated and undernourished. Usually I wouldn't interfere if I saw a faun on its own but it was pretty obvious that he had been fully abandoned, maybe because he was piebald. It always amazes me when wild animals seek out human help, somehow knowing that many people will do anything they can to help those animals, Including raising them pretty much as their own… sometimes, keeping them their entire lives. I know when I bought my first house that many animals came to the back door and did the same. From cats to possums to raccoons and squirrels. With raccoons not only coming back every night to get a snack, but also bringing their babies in the spring, meet us and get their own snacks. Always trusting that we would never harm them or the babies. I always appreciate that and love the interaction. Playing with them in the backyard and enjoying the affection that they would give to me and vice versa. Raccoons were pretty much a given, as they are like giant children. Kind of a mix between a dog and cat. My biggest surprise was the possums, who pretty much interacted the same as the raccoons... very nice and grateful to have not only the food, but somebody to give them some attention and affection. Nothing cuter than baby possums. Never had a deer come, though they are around… with the population growing in this area, especially over the past 10 years. I feel very fortunate that these animals have always and continue to accept me as part of their lives.

I think that's a Key Deer...they tend to be easy to deal with and often interact directly with people on their own, which has created some of the problems they face because of it such as involving cars, which, unlike the more common subspecies, just tends to obliterate them because of how small they are
