Literally everyone and their grandma expected this movie to be a decent flick at best and a cashgrab at worst. Only for it to turn out to be not only one of Dreamworks' best movies *ever* , but a proper masterpiece that's just a straight fun ride from start to finish.

You REALLY should have watched the movie before seeing this. Puss in boots the last wish is probably the best animated movie to come out in the last few years. Even now people are discussing the themes and the many hidden aspects to the movie. There is so much to unpack in this film, it is nothing short of a masterpiece.

To answer your question, Puss didn't really "beat" Death. He even acknowledges that he can't, but that he'll keep fighting for his last life all the same. Death then has his little speech about how Puss changed and proceeds to leave on his own, reminding him that they *will* meet again someday.
@EditDeath
@EditDeath 11 ай бұрын
Yup, and Puss agreed with that parting statement, answering it with "Hasta la muerte," meaning "Till death."

He acts like the wolf being Death is obvious from the start, but I had simply just thought of him as scary bounty hunter at first and was incredulous to believe, no that's just straight up Death, like the Grim Reaper himself, and I feel like there are plenty of others who thought similarly

9:25 "The skipping frames reminds me of spiderverse." That's no coincidence. Into the Spiderverse is one of the most influential animated films to come out since the first puss movie, and people loved the action in it.

12:45 I don't like that he treats this twist like it's undeserved. Yeah, a lot of people figured it out sooner, but there's also to point out that, watching it after the first time, it's like "F*CK, it's so obvious! They DID left clues here and there, I just didn't pay attention to those because... this movie pulled the rug from your feet." NOBODY expected this movie to be THIS good, even the trailers made it looked cheesy and "yeah, it's just another cartoon, nothing that spectacular. Really." it wasn't like "Spiderman No Way Home" or "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" where you could feel that was only the tip and the best will be exclusively shown in the theaters, it's was a very average trailer, they even spoiled the moral (care for your life like it's the only one you have), showned only Goldie and the Bears as the villains... it's not much that the reveal is "this guy is Death" the most shocking part, is the fact that "Death is a very deep villain... IN PUSS IN BOOTS 2!" that has to shock you.

7:14 - Yes, Puss in Boots was so popular in Shrek movies he got his own Spin-off movie, he even got his own TV Show. The first Puss in Boots movie was established as prequel to Shrek movies, Story was about who Puss was and became before meeting Shrek & Donkey. When Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is happening after all Shrek movies. Here you have current Shrek & Puss in Boots Movie timeline: Puss in Boots (2011), Shrek (2001), Shrek 2 (2004), Shrek 3 (2007), Shrek Forever (2010), Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022)

The reason they were comparing it to Velma qas specifically comparing the panic attack scenes and how a childrens movie did ot better than an adult animated series.
@execrisiscoreonearth
@execrisiscoreonearth 11 ай бұрын
Yea, I could see that being the reason tbqh. Mind you, imho... I don't think Velma failed in that endeavor, completely at least. It's just all around bad, so any half good things are just going to get shit on along with it, frankly. I liked the early psychological scene differences in Velma, early on in the first few episodes still not defending that show....the one scenes where the art style changes drastically. Beyond that, yep. That's probably exactly why.

What I loved of this movie... we are 3 mainstream movies, 1 spin-off, numerous specials and shorts, a TV SERIES... and this "he's a jackass that lived like THERE WILL BE a tomorrow" STILL HOLDS. He is not as pompous (he was in the TV series tho), sure, but in the other media he is fighting like there will be tomorrow, because in his case there is. THIS is not easy to achieve with THIS MUCH on the shoulders. Even the best of the bests still has to retcon on minor things with such setups (example: in one of the first stories of Lucky Luke, he faces against the real and historical Dalton Gang but they are all killed at the end of the story. MANY YEARS LATER. Emmett Dalton, the gang leader is still alive "Didn't we bury him, like, in the FOURTH comic?" Yeah but I discovered that in real life, he actually survived that ambush, so... let's abuse this historical oversight the original creators made).

I love the age of animated movies that we live in. We’re kinda marred by the amount of movies that act as cash grabs, and not really understanding what makes it so good. I watched this movie and felt really similar to Spider-Man Into the Spiderverse because I not only love the art style but because they wear its sincerity on its sleeve. It never feels cheap and any emotional moments feel genuine. Plus the humor doesn’t feel dumbed down to kids. I genuinely can laugh and not groan anytime someone makes poop or fart jokes. Movies like this feel like animated movies aren’t just a dumb medium for kids, it can be fun for the adults as well.

I want you to actually watch The Prince of Egypt on it's own. In my opinion it's one of my favorite films and is the magnum opus from DreamWorks. I know you saw the Critic talk about it already but you really need to see for yourself. It's chilling and powerful and moving. I know you don't like musicals but in my opinion they move the story and you're going to need to go through them if you want to see the full movie. You need to take an hour and a half. Trust me man, it's worth your time.

@7:40 "Megan dance" is just the dance that the antagonist in the horror movie, "Megan", did. Aka an animatronic... Robot.... Girl, thing. She did a weird dance that likely parodied tiktok dances and I can only presume it became a tik tok dance in it self. And I guess... Maybe the wolf did the dance at some point? I don't think so? That might be a fan edit? But I really don't know also it doesn't really matter?

I saw this movie about a week ago and it was amazing. I never noticed the small details they put in them, except for the wolf in the beginning. The movie that was shown in Honey was Alita Battle Angel. It's based on the series Battle Angel Alita. It was one of the best live-action anime movies in recent years. I saw some of the Puss in Boots memes months before I saw the movie. Apparently, there were Puss in Boots animated series on Netflix.

Good thing this video didn't got upload two days earlier or I would of skipped it. I literally just watch this recently. I wanted to watch it but couldn't find on most streaming networks and my local Redbox didn't have it available till recently. That is the problem with NC's post revival, movies that are way too recent before we have a chance to watch them. He tried to create new memes like Frying the Coke but they didn't stick. You can't force a meme, it just come naturally. "I know how story actually goes?" *Facepalm* Now you unfamiliar with fairy tales that we learn from our kindergarten years. Well to be fair, I was unfamiliar with the Thumb villain till this movie. The story is a girl broke in the bears house, ate their food, sat in their chairs, slept in their beds. The bears woke her up and scare her away. The movie on the other hand said they adopted her. "What happen to Death?" He just simply quit chasing Puss. He saw no reason to end his final life prematurely since he's not acting like invincible and living his life like it's worth something.

Im baffled you had no idea Puss had his own solo movie before this! It's a good one too, really. It's not bad by any means, but The Last Wish DOES blow it out of the park in comparison! This is genuinely a film you NEED to see! I have never been more satisfied and fulfilled from an animated movie like this in years! You dont even need to see the first Puss In Boots film to watch it, it works great as its own solo film (I swear, everyone else will tell you the same thing). I'm kinda sad that you didnt even see it or know anything about it before watching this review... this movie is something that's absolute perfection to go into blindly, and you'd be so lucky to have gone this long spoiler free before seeing it ;; Ik you had people asking for it, but truth be told, I'd avoid movie reviews if you've never seen the movie. It sounds like who ever requested this assumed you'd have already watched the film because it's so popular now.

I have barely started the video, but you REALLY do not need to watch the first two puss in boots movies to find enjoyment in this one, at all. Imo. Previous installments would, frankly, only give you context about his relationship with the female cat, and that is largely it. And that ain't why people want you to watch it, let's be frank here. Lol. That said, imma agree with some folks that it's best watched blind, but this, frankly, should be the next best thing tho. The star of the show is Mr wolf, his assistant is puss in boots, we all know these facts to be self evident, have fun. Lol.

@6:00 I think this bit is specifically why people wanted you to see the movie first; that whole opener was more or less a reference to a bunch of the famous lines in the movie, mixed with avatar the way of water thinking it was hot shit for releasing at the same time. Thats frankly the big thing here, I'm thinking. You wouldnt understand any of that if you didn't watch the movie.

I HATE people believed that Kitty didn't show up to the wedding either. SHE WOULD NOT BE PISSED IF SHE DIDN'T SHOW UP EITHER! It's VERY CLEAR that she is LYING to him, to get him to feel better about not showing up. He JUST admitted his ONE AND ONLY REGRET was hurting her. So she LIES, saying she didn't show up, and thus didn't hurt her, and he had nothing to regret anymore. It's insane how many people don't understand that, even the Nostalgia Critic didn't notice that.
