Here is a new video !!
It's been a while ! Sorry about that... Many people asked me for a longer video with more details ;)
This is a streamline model train produced by JEP for Unis France before 1940, probably between 1932-1939, but not sure... If any of you have more infos...
It's a 120 type / 0 gauge. There was an electro system in the tender, I guess the original model had a full electric motor.
Each part was completely seized and pretty much rusted.
I thought the spring was broken then I was very surprised that it wasn't.
What you don't see in the video is that the spring finally broke during an electrolytic bath 🤔 I had to lift one end of it so the motor is a little less powerful.... It's not obvious on the video but I spent a couple days trying to bring this pre-war clockwork back to life !
Please watch till the end to see this antique rusty locomotive in action !
I'm aware that dark brown chocolate is not the perfect original color but it comes close ;)
By supporting the channel you help me make more of these video and find more amazing items.
I hope you'll enjoy this restoration.
Thanks a lot for watching !

To remedy some of the rough running, I reccomend setting one side of the driving wheels at 90 degrees to the other side. This is called "quartering" and it balances out the weight in the wheel

Christmas 1930 (or something) Boxing Day, a child, perhaps waiting for years on end for his most wanted present. A steam locomotive and his favourite too! He’s playing with it in front of the fire place day after day, weeks, months but slowly but surely the little train moved from the boys room to the attic where it waited to make place for other forgotten toys and moved to a Misty and water leaking shed were it’s rest till it was found again and restored in it’s old sheen colours and it runs till it’s spring runs to an end and it was put in a closet were everybody could enjoy it’s beauty. I don’t know if you’ve noticed but my youth came along with this video 🥲 how can I thank you for sharing this beautiful video with me 👍👍❤️

It's probably been said before, but the only flaw in an otherwise perfect restoration is with the front driving wheels. They are out of quarter. If it were adjusted, the locomotive would run more smoothly around the track. I was very impressed with the wheel pulling gadget you manufactured, and with your ability to fashion new small parts. Very impressive.

In random order: great workmanship, relaxed atmosphere without shock effects so typical of our days, great recording, the work soundscapes and the music you have chosen, just the love of old toys, the joy of doing something by yourself and not once more buying more things. I love your restoration work. On the 1937 catalogue the same loco is not proposed but a non-aerodynamique one, Axle arrangement 240 (120 as we say in France) and is listed as "train mécanique numéro 7" with a battery in tender and a front light in the loco. The same loco as yours is on the 1940 catalogue as part of train n°6 "de luxe" with a front light on the loco and the tender could host a 4.5 V "batterie de lampe de poche". Pre-war markings are "Nord". This loco is also in the 1954 catalogue with train n° 6 "de Luxe" with a 4.5 V battery in the tender and the front light on the loco. The difference is post WW2, the loco was marked as SNCF with its logo on them on the - then added - smoke deflectors. So all the JEP locos I mentionned were De Luxe with a clock work motor and a provision to install a flat 4.5 V battery to light up the lamp screwed at the front of the loco. The same loco was also produced with an electric motor with a mechanical direction switch (transversally on top of the loco. To be noted that the cheaper locos (not the De Luxe version) were lithographed I cannot be more precise as I don't have all JEP catalogues.

Great job with the restoration. There are tools and techniques to re-quarter the drive wheels so it doesn't jump around so much running. It is fiddly work to get perfect.
