After watching your videos I can't help but think that becoming a financial controller is much easier in Europe than in America. Well, at least in my country. I have seen 25 year olds becoming junior financial controllers in some smaller companies after only working as an auditor in big 4 for maybe ~4 years.

Hey Bill, I work in accounts payable right now, but I do not want to be stuck here forever. What actions can I take to move up the ladder? Degrees? Other positions?
@queensgambit4982 Жыл бұрын
First step get a bachelors degree in accounting . With a Bach you can get get entry to staff accountant position. It is the first professional accounting position . Yeah climbs to Staff 2 ,and senior , asst cont and then controller etc. I would recommend getting your masters to complete 150 credit hours and become eligible to sit for the CPA exam . Don’t go for certificate of accounting or something like that . The only way to become a competent accountant is to understand and have. Solid foundation of GAAP . Generally accepted accounting principles. If you do get go for your masters I recommend taking courses in taxation . Knowing both makes you a solid accountant with a lot of potential .

Thanks a lot Bill for such an informative video. I am an accountant with one of the Renewal Energy companies in India. Here, I am part of a team where we are supposed to prepare all the relevant expenses schedules during the month end close period in order to draw some conclusion as to whether all the actual expenses, reversal of provisions & current period's provisions recorded correctly or not. We are also supposed to compare the monthly trend of expenses with previous month/quarter as well as last year in order to take corrective measures before final close or explain variances accordingly. We use SAP S4/HANA as an accounting software to extract data and every expense schedules have a lot of transactions between 300 to 500 transactions which goes beyond 1000 transactions for payroll expense. Would you mind guiding me as to what could be the best way to deal with all these requirements and make sure the management's expectations in terms of accuracy of expenses is fulfilled. Could there be an easy way out to handle all these schedules within 3 to 4 days?

I was a senior accountant but I hadn't had much forecasting/budgeting experience so I am getting a Financial Analyst role (focusing on budgeting and forecasting) probably next week, am I going backwards according to your metric? or am I still on the right track to be a finance manager in a couple of years?
