For me when I hit the ball like a whip dead center and lean towards my striking foots hip. That’s what minimizes follow through and makes it knuckle like crazy. Full extension of the leg at point of contact and bring leg back all the way to increase power too.

An interesting technique I picked up watching RVP was when he volleys a ball, he'll often straighten both his arms out in front of him. After trying it out, it really seems to help with lining things up and hitting a shot that travels straight like an arrow. I'd love to see you do some analysis on how upper body movements and positioning affects kicking techniques.

from my personal experience, a knuckle ball is built up by the speed of which your leg strikes the ball, the contraction of muscles in the quads that give strength, and the position of the ball where you kick it. additional adjustments would be to instead of swinging, make sure all muscles contract and give it a pure strike. it's mainly about strength actually, your flexibility and foot stability. sometimes i just hit banger knuckle ball goals without even wanting to do a knuckle ball

watching your knuckle ball in slow motion as well as other YTer's I notice the contact is almost like a ping long ball technique except the follow through is not sweeping low and over the grass. It's lifting which makes sense after you draw a line through the ball in your diagram. Thanks for that diagram/illustration because it now makes a lot of sense! If we hit dead center and start lifting we'll get spin, which is what we don't want. but if we hit it slightly lower and follow through as if a line went through the other side, it will not spin. Will be practicing this a lot. TY for your breakdown!

I always hit the ball with a large surface area on the inside of the foot and follow through straight. When you hit the ball the shape of the ball changes as it is striked. The more you can change the shape of the ball as it leaves your foot the more it knuckles. Thats why it’s easier to hit with less pumped footballs

i was confused on why the ball kept spinning when i thought i was hitting through the center of the ball when all i was doing was hitting straight down the lower middle part of the ball and finishing off to the left which made it have too much side spin and it went too low. somehow through playing barefoot i realized that it was more natural for me to hit the ball through the bottom right of the ball and hitting through the top left and it actually struck through the center of the ball and got no spin. its weird how the ball works lol i had to hit the side of the ball to strike through the center of the balll

I also practiced this technique for years, because my Beckham bend around the wall wasn't working at all ha, I found when I got the technique right I was hitting the bar constantly ha-ha, I hit the ball just below half way and come to the ball from the side. Like you said your own way is the best option for getting it right.

Best video about that topic. Just hit the f..king ball where it counts and magic happens by itself. After watching your video, I was really eager to try it out yesterday but well my son(5years old) so I really didn't want to bother him with that. So I just went out tried it. Hit one perfect one upper left corner and two missed but knuckle-balls at leas in just a 25 min session. And made my life much harder on that.... Son's balls are size 3 :D So it is really freaking damn hard to hit the ball properly in the "spot" where it matters. Well I will keep trying and maybe use full sized balls :D instead of that mini thingies :D Little background on me: Old fart now, not playing actively. just doing some training with my son (that's how i fall over that video :D in search for training sessions/idea's). I played Amateur in my youth but started very late just started last age of juniors than directly adults. So everything I am able to do with the ball I basically taught myself. While endless lonely times on a pitch with a goal without a net even. I consider myself a decent player with a quite powerful shot, when I manage to hit the ball I am able to produce some proper rockets. I like the heavy leaning method and hit the ball almost sideways to get a lot pressure behind the ball. Kind of my technique I guess... So I am by far no newbie, that's what I wanna point out for some people trying to learn knuckleball. For sure I agree 100% just hitting the ball at the proper "spot" that the ball has no rotation and you are good :) Doesn't matter how the rest looks like, follow through and all that ... :D

I realized its because of my ankles, my right strong foot ankles are so used to kicking one way that its stiff and held steady so I cant really open the ankle up for a shot. My left ankle tendons are a little loser so it opens much wider and it hits the ball square from my side foot. WObbles all the time.
