I still say the most useless ship in world history was the U-1206. When it was first deployed it's captain damaged it so badly that it had to ascend over the water line close to the Scottish coast, which wasn't a good thing to do for a German submarine in April 1945. It was immediately spotted and attacked by British aircraft, three (or four, depending on the sources) sailors lost their lives and the crew decided the damage was so severe that their only option was to sink the sub. The surviving 46 sailors became POW. Oh, and how did the captain (whose name was Schlitt) damage the submarine? He didn't use the toilet according to instructions.
