Love this series!!!! You guys rock. Sending thanks to Josh and Crysten for allowing us to walk through their process with them and view into their world. They have a great product, love the whole family and heritage vibe! Living in Austin, I'm seeing a lot of these types of new products, beer, beverages, snacks. We have a facebook group for the CPG community and a whole startup for these types of businesses. sku.is/ and www.builtinaustin.com/company/sku. I wander around the stores seeing all the new packaged goods, beverage labels, beer. It's daunting. I see so many new salsas and products that don't have good design and wonder how they will stand out on the shelf. Here's an Austin sparkling water that's new and rocks the branding process, jumps off the shelf, too ramblersparklingwater.com/

The common pattern I've seen with any formal classes on any subject is that they only offer theory and nothing practical. People have an idea of what a "class" is and content is designed to fit into that structure. But in terms of actually learning something you can use, simply watching someone do their job for a day is often going to be far more useful than taking a class for a full semester.

Retro vs Heritage, according to our friend Google: Retro - imitative of a style, fashion, or design from the recent past (to me: nostalgic, stuck in the past, kind of kitsch) Heritage - denoting a traditional brand or product regarded as emblematic of fine craftsmanship (to me: beyond trends, timeless, a bit rustic) ...not the same vibe! :) Also, I LOVE this show! How do you manage to make real work so entertaining? I could watch you for hours. I love you guys, please, keep being awesome!

@@mrbenburns Really enjoyed it! What stuck out the most was the challenge you guys had with particular language/vocabulary/words to describe particular designs you were striving for - ie. "retro" vs "heritage" and how each person will interpret those words differently in terms of design. Also feel like it would be challenging to keep the user profiles' best interests in mind instead of allowing your own preferences/tastes to cloud your judgement of what the client needs. You may gravitate towards a particular design, but that may not be the best for the client/user profile/etc.

Great videos, I love this stuff. The biggest thing I got from the couple was the Welcoming atmosphere they were trying to build. Almost like they want their customers to feel at home when they're at their brewery and when drinking their beer elsewhere. Instead of it being a bar or brewery, its a home that all sorts of people walk in and out of at their leisure. I gravitated towards the Welcoming aspect a lot. I started thinking about the first thing I saw when I hear the word Welcoming. Its a door or a door mat. Whats needed to open a door and whats under a door mat, a key. A set of old style keys Historic/Rustic keys. That plays along with the heritage they're looking for and the welcoming atmosphere. Not too much color but you can tell the set of keys is dated. Not too dated because they've been taken care of for generations and generations. Maybe I'm crazy!
