“Building a Brand” is a series where we take you behind the scenes as Blind helps to rebrand Hamilton Family Brewery. Hamilton Family Brewery was founded in 2014 by husband and wife team Josh and Crysten Hamilton. Since then, their little brewery in Rancho Cucamonga, California has ballooned in size because of its growing popularity. The Hamilton's are looking to take the next step into retail, but Josh, who has been doing the design for the company up to this point, does not feel confident in creating a recognizable, stand out brand for that next phase.
In this series, we'll give you a behind the scenes look at this process, from start to finish. You'll see how ideas are shaped and take the form of a new identity system, packaging, messaging, website, and ultimately see the brand launch.

When the Hamiltons were having a hard time providing a visual language of their look and feel, Ben was quick to act on helping them out draw that by looking at several stylescapes you guys have done. The vulnerability, raw emotion and thought process of Ben and Matthew sort of gives us a comfortability level that it's not going to be perfect all the time but you can always be creative to deviate from the norm and go with the flow to get the destination. I can't wait for the next episode! this is so insightful! Thanks The Futur Team :)

Can we just stop for a moment to appreciate the excellent editing in here. The thing that really stole the show being how it opens with the wife asks a question which most creative people have a tough time answering well, we see a whole video which shows us the answer and at the end we hear the same person as a client answer her own question in detail. Very cool.

I love love your process! This is probably the best discovery session I have ever seen. The clients seem to have fun with the building personas and the conversation flows in a very natural yet genuine but not generic way. The way you hone in on the real meat of the target market and goals is excellent, you lead the customer to bring this information (that they may not even realize they know) up to the surface with a very clear lens. The way you restate is also very good, not redundant just clarifying. Amazing work guys and way to make it look easy even though I know it's not. I will be watching this before every discovery meeting until I feel as calm and confident as you two appear.

Nice one. And the discovery phase is sooooo important. Of all the innovation projects I have been part of over the years, that's the part where we had massive impact. And I learned that the hard way. Every time we rushed through that, we regretted it later on and sometimes ended up creating a solution to a problem that didn't exist. Loved the video.

Hey @Matthew Encina and @MrBenBurns! Like everyone else, this brand process series is amazing and was exactly what I was looking for. I'm a huge fan of The Futur and I always put into practice your tips and they always bring me great results. I've been designing for a while now and have worked my way into doing brand strategy without even noticing I was doing it. For the past year, I've noticed I'm doing more marketing than design and any design project I get, I send it to other freelancers. I've been studying a lot of brand strategy and it's an area I want to improve in. Definetely when it comes to finding who my clients target audience is. Right now, I have a huge client that they hired me as a sub contractor to run the marketing department for their custom homes company. I just had a brain storming meeting with all the big dogs you can say, and I don't think they knew exactly how to describe a demographic of their persona or client. The only thing they said is a homeowner that can afford the custom homes they sell. I would like to know how you research to find the target audience? Where do you go? What tools do you use? I want to provide them 2-3 ideas of their potential customer. Sorry for the lengthy comment!

I have been in branding and advertising for 28 years, and I really do appreciate your videos and method. It's difficult to get clients to understand the importance of this process. I went on to watch a video that Gary Vee had about "like subject" and OMG, I was embarrassed. Keep up the great work. If you ever need a consultant for reaching the older demo, that's what I'm specializing in these days...bridging the gap between creative generations.

I realised “define a brand” exercise wasn’t much useful at least here.Identifying the customer and brand attributes is gold. I’m doing the same to build my own brand. “Define a brand” exercise for me is giving me partial results similar to brand attributes exercise.

The aspect of the brand design process where you conversing with clients can potentially be the best part of the process. I had numerous of these experiences. Every client at the end of the day is not the same.
