I wasn't born in this era but I can say that these men are the super group of music! There is no band after them who has that kind of country soulful magnetism. Their voices are smoothly connected and their masculinity is on point. Wow!!!💕💕

I was at that show, but I didn't remember that Willie stayed in the background on this song and didn't come out front to sing his part. For one reason or another, Waylon was the star of the Highwaymen shows. He was kind of the informal MC, talking directly to the audience about what was coming up.

I remember Waylon first sang that song without Willie and when he put it on the outlaw record he put Willie on it and it was another of Waylons great ideas ....

I think maybe its because everyone knew who Willie, Johnny, and Kris were, even if they didn't listen to country music. Especially outside America. And Waylon were probably also the most natural entertainer and singer of the group. Thre three others were/are some of the greatest songwriters and interpreters of songs ever, but they were/are not the greatest singers of all time

@@clauskristensen2184 have to disagree with some of what you say..Waylon might not have written as many songs but but ..Waylon was first at everything he did and that's a fact..First and only singer hired without being seen..they went to Waylon..Nashville never has since ..he had the first platinuim and first triple platinum ever..The first to own his music RIGHTS..The first to tell Nashville to 💋 kiss his ass and opened the door for those that was already there and for the ones that came AFTER..The list GOES On...As far as voices go there was no better or ever will be in his prime..if you only knew what he did for so many of his friends without telling them or bragging about it..Waylon had the Constitution of 10 men for sure..Waylon was a true music man for sure and could play that guitar better then the best as Chet would say.., Waylon made that guitar have that sound..

@@kellyaiken7601 Oh I agree that Waylon was exeptionally talented and I know that he helped his friends and fought the establishment in Nashville. I mean he basically founded outlaw country. I still feel that both Willie and Kris are better songwriters, but that doesn't mean Waylon wasn't a good songwriter himself and I never claimed that he was. I'm European, so I'm not sure how well know Waylon was outside country music in America, but he wasn't as well known in Europe as Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Kris Krisofferson, and Hank Williams. Especially outside the country music lovers. I think the first time I got aquainted with Waylon was through the Highwaymen in the late 80s or early 90s. I already knew the others before that.

@@clauskristensen2184 I'm sorry to hear that because in all HONESTY Willie or Kris wouldn't have made it by just writing songs..Waylons been around since Buddy Holly and he broke open every road in Nashville but he wasn't into the fame gang..in fact it was HIS idea about the highwayman but he rarely told anyone but in one of the interviews in concert Willie touched on it but Waylon didn't like taking credit ..Did you know that Waylon and Jessi are the only 2 that put the Outlaw record together?? They couldn't speak of it for years until the statue of limitations ran out because Willie was under contract under different label but he included Willie and Tom Paul so they would get credits..thanks for the time..
