Hi, Nuria! This is truly a case where a picture is worth a thousand words. Thank you for sharing your KDP journey with us! It is a jaw-dropping, motivational video for those new to KDP. Somewhere in this video, you've mentioned ads that you used to promote your books. May I ask you how much one should expect to spend on ads in order to have decent sales figures? I believe that it is hard to get traction in this business by relying on organic traffic only. Especially at the beginning. Thanks again, and keep up the good work! May this year be more successful for your KDP business than the previous years combined!
@TheHomeBoss Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! The good news is that I didn't run any ads the first year, so I still made sales and I then used my profit very carefully when I tried ads. Ads are tricky to learn and you need to be prepared to lose some money when you start, but after a while I could see that it was worth running them. My advice is to have a budget, however small, and keep trying ads. It takes a lot of experimentation. I think I'll make a video about that side of running ads to better explain it. Best of luck to you!

What are KENP reads and Ad speed? Are they connected to your sales growth too?
@candid0111 Жыл бұрын
KENP reads are how many pages of your book were read. so maybe if someone borrows a book you wrote through kindle unlimited, which is where most of my earnings come from because i write novels.
@TheHomeBoss Жыл бұрын
I don't get KENP reads as I don't have written ebooks. The only books that might qualify are my children's books and they are not ideal for page reads as there are not many pages. KENP reads work better for fiction or non-fiction books.

so inspiring! I am about 7-8 months in and lam really struggeling , without ads.. Just goes even. Can l ask if you have any advice? How come you sold a few books as quick as you did, any tips? I have 128 books up
@TheHomeBoss Жыл бұрын
Thank you Kiki. I think the reason I sold a few books quickly was the Quarter 4 effect. I started publishing at a time when the market was very busy with lots of people buying. I think my story is unusual and not the norm when it comes to that point. However, I think I made the right kind of books at the time, my first book was a budget planner and I think this was the one that sold first (I'll check this as I'm curious now!) Your journey as you describe it is what normally happens. It does take a few months for things to start showing some success. My advice is to make different books to the ones already on Amazon. I find that people tend to find a niche, and then they make the same kind of books. The covers are of course different but they don't add anything new to the interior. It's a good idea to think outside the box, add something to your books that other books don't have. I will try and make a video about that to explain it better.

Yes, and it will be at a different moment for everyone. In my case I stopped when I thought that my income was secure enough and at the same level as a full time job. It will depend on which country you live in and your own situation. It's not an easy decision to make.

I honestly can't remember, I think I had 30 books when I got my first sale, but after that... Possibly 200 but I can't be sure. The quantity really has no relevance anyway, but I think I started seeing sales when I made a book that I loved making. I saw the idea in a bookshop, didn't even research the niche and I put my own spin on it. Those books started selling and it all went from there. So if you have a concept that you're excited about, go for it! Best of luck to you Keri.

How many books do you have published Nuria?
@barrykerr2346 Жыл бұрын
Firstly thank you for being so open and honest. This had motivated me to start in KDP. I see this as a side hustle for myself. Just a quick question obviously you would need to start off by publishing say 5-10 books. How many low content books di you offer now for the sales that you made in the last quarter. This would give me an idea of what sort of upscale in products would be required . Many thanks again and keep the the great motivational content coming.
@TheHomeBoss Жыл бұрын
Thank you Barry. I have around 750 books at the moment but that number changes as I sometimes unpublish old dated planners but I would say I had about 650 to 700 for the last quarter (I could be wrong, I don't know where or how to check this retrospectively and I'm going by memory). However, what I would say to you is that the quantity really doesn't have much of an impact. I know people that make much more than me and have less than 500 books (all low content). It just depends on your niches and your books really. The one advantage that making more books has is that by making more books you are practicing and getting better at making them and at researching. But it's not really the quantity, it's a combination of quality (as in good covers and interiors that people want) and niche research. It also takes time to get to a level where we start to understand all of those things. Wishing you the best of success!

Hi Nuria, your videos are so inspiring. I started following you recently. I ve a Question pls. i understand that u have around 700 odd books now.. but next time when u show ur journey, could you please add at that point in time how many books were in your kitty. example when u started it was 5 and then in March 22, over the course of so and so months you added 200 books etc. like a gradual break up of how u build your books. most of follow how our roll models work and for me on KDP you are my roll model. so it will only help us grow and plan! thank you! will keep you posted on my journey!v(Understand that quality supersedes quantity but would still be nice to know your book kitty timelines)
@TheHomeBoss Жыл бұрын
That's a very good point Rashmi. The problem is that I can't remember how many books I had at a certain point in time and I don't know if there is a way to check that in the reports now. I will certainly mention how many books I have from now on so that you can follow the journey. For example, I also unpublished quite a few old dated planners the other day, so my total number of books has probably decreased now. Thank you so much for your helpful comment and for watching my videos! Wishing you every success!

I guess because my first interest in KDP was coloring books, I can't help but think about low content books that aren't truly low content. Like say a notebook, but each page has a unique image in the corner, not just lined pages. I wonder if that'd help a notebook stand out (sell better) or if that's silly, maybe notebook buyers really just want maximum space for writing with no frills. :)
@TheHomeBoss Жыл бұрын
When it comes to notebooks, the only way to stand out is to make great covers. I find that people really just expect a standard notebook interior although some might like some frills, but they are not necessary. The covers are the main selling point. People like giving funny gifts, so humour is one of the things that sells. But there are other types of notebooks that make good sales too. Look at big notebook brands and see what they focus on to give you an idea. Best of luck!

@TheHomeBoss Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching! I have videos that might help with keywords, I don't target the words gift and presents unless the book is really made as a gift or the main purpose is to be gifted, otherwise Amazon won't always allow keywords that are not relevant. For example, I heard people using the keyword Christmas in the 7 keyword slots had their book blocked for using that keyword. So only use relevant keywords, less is better than too many.

What do you have to say about it.

Unfortunately there are not guarantees. Any business needs time, patience and hard work. But even then it doesn't work for everyone. I hope that you can find a way to make sales. Saying that, if you only started in January this year, it's a little bit early to expect any results.

Hmmmm I think I have watched one of your videos about not to spend any money as a starter and this is what I have been doing but is there anyway one can make sales except from making good cover and the likes? Also , I 'd like you to clarify this thing for me .....When I checked the report in the kdp dashboard , I saw a single stroke or yellow line on the graphic and I don't know what that means on my high content book . Another thing is , why do you prefer low content to high content book because it is written in all your videos . I must confess that all your videos are interesting and inspiring and I want to say thank you for the quick response and I really appreciate your effort to make others grow financial .

I'm sure I mention it in the video, and I have mentioned it in past videos. At the moment I have around 750 books. The quantity is in my opinion irrelevant as the quality is more important.
