Hi Ken, on number 7! In my 20s I worked 2 jobs, 7 days a week for 6 years straight to help pay off my parents' mortgage and save for a deposit. I was so focused, and it came with a lot of sacrifice. Having Saturdays and Sundays off felt like a luxury after that period! Ideally, now years later I would have a 4 day working week like what you and Mary have created for yourselves for a better balance on time freedom. 👍🏾

Your parents will be eternally grateful for the sacrifices you made for them. That inspired me.

Yes, Ken, my mortgage is keeping me trapped in a job that is making me sick, literally. I am currently thinking of selling up so I can use my 140K equity to buy somewhere else like Newcastle and be mortgage free in the next 3-6 months.

You have answered & opened the door to freedom, do it & once mortgage free, cut down on job hours or get another job to work the hours you want & go travel! The world is waiting to be explored x
@TheHumblePenny2 ай бұрын
That is a compelling option. Have you considered leaving the job? I'd do this first.

@TheHumblePenny Yes, I will quit once I make the move and gey my little one settled into school. I work from home, so once I have him settled, I will ask to work part-time to 2-3 days so I can build up some savings for about 3-6 months as I will not have a mortgage, and I will start a side hustle before quitting.

Hi Ken, been watching you for a couple years now. Since watching you (and some others), I left a very toxic workplace, grew my salary by over 10K, opened an ISA for each of my children a couple years ago, and finally have had the confidence to open a Hargreaves Lansdown stocks and shares ISA and started investing in some ETFs and passive funds. I've also been helping my parents plan for their retirement and started working on my own plans to get me in the position I want to be in when I retire. There's still much more we plan to do and these have all been baby steps, but wanted to thank you for motivating me to build my own financial literacy and personal responsibility. I know lots of people make a lot more progress a lot quicker, but each of these steps has been valuable for me!

I totally identify with what you said about work - I've been totally unfulfilled for several years, the constant moaning of colleagues and poor management recently made me realise it was time to leave. I'm lucky in that I'm mortgage and debt free. I'm 60 early next year, and that's when I'll be retiring and though living on a small pension will bring its own challenges, enough is enough for me in my current job.

A lot of these resonate with me. I have recently increased my hours to f/t but they are compressed over Mon-Thurs, meaning I am off work from Friday. As I work from home, sitting down for most of about 8 hours I now walk daily and am extremely strict about what I eat because health is wealth.

Great vid. #9🙌🏾🙌🏾 I very rarely do any black Friday shopping. I did this year for my little nephew, but within a budget. You said what I've been thinking for year about the black Friday shopping scheme, obliterate your credit card and and have regrets by Wednesday. Delayed gratification is the way for me.

I totally relate to everything said here. I went back to 9 to 5 after COVID as I needed to recover from the effects COVID had in my businesses. I hate every minute of it. I am already working on the way out back to my freedom. Mortgage: yes, I am at 9 to 5 today because of the mortgage 😢😢 If I had it my way, I would work only 3 days a week.

Yes freedom was very important for me early in life. I notice i do not want absolutly anything but my freedom. I was a leader in big company already at 22 year old but that was so stressful, but i learned alot but sense then i notice i cannot work for anyone but myself because i need my freedom even if they pay me well because i do not care about money in that regard i care more about life. When i was 23 i quit my job and told myself i never gonna work for anyone but myself. Sound abit selfish but when i got my freedom then i could provide jobs to even more people and help more people around me. I was just more productive overall and now can control my life. Now im 35 years old if i do not have my freedom i instantly become depressed. I do not need anything, just need too have freedom too follow my God who guide me daily. Freedom is scary and most people freeze in those situation. Remember Moses who freed the slaves? Many slaves who are free want to go back to there masters to take care of them that is also part of human life. So i do not blame anyone who do not seek this kind of freedom because its not comfortble for everybody.
@TheHumblePenny2 ай бұрын
Absolutely 💯. The Moses analogy is spot on! It's not for everyone and that's OK.

@@smann7236 I work from home, fix contraction project too other companies. And rent out workers. I take procentage for each project or i take like 3-5 euro for each worker per hour job i fix on the field. Fit very well for me and its not stressful and im used to speak with people on that field.
@moorfim2 ай бұрын
@@smann7236 I live in Sweden so money i invest is on other companies or house i have in Tanzania. I only put money on something who make my life easier at the moment. I do not invest in stocks or other sort of things i invest more on persons who provide on my works.

Number 8 about not letting people determine how you live your life - so true. You only get one life, live it how you want, don’t let others make you feel guilty about it. Stopped overspending a long time ago. The money I wasted in my 20s and 30s on beauty products - I could have had a huge investment fund by now. All you need is good sleep and look after your health- nutritionally, physically, mentally. I think you need to do a video on how to find a car under £10k. For me the fear is a cheap car not being reliable/breaking down and then waiting for hours for recovery.

I have a theory about life, which is that we are born into a system and over time, we come to realise the illusion of freedom, driven by the choices that are made by people above us, whether it's your boss, your head of state or lady luck herself. What am I quitting? Hope, because it's never helped.

Hi Ken. How did you manage many years of unfulfilling work, with people you dislike and the insane office politics? I’m still in my early career and I’m in the same situation. As you've started, close your eyes and finish it. Enjoy the process and learn from it. I've been there and it's overwhelming sometimes as building materials have skyrocketed and so has labour. But there is joy in the process. Just try to manage the budget and not overspend where possible.

This is amazing. I love it. Very insightful. I feel you are talking to me. Something I have been reflecting on in recent weeks having moved into a new country with my family but struggling adjusting. How long did it take for you to have these realisations and building to get this level of freedom especially on the work aspects?
@TheHumblePenny2 ай бұрын
It has taken years! Definitely not overnight. For career/work, it has been a very gradual thing. I'd say I seriously started considering strongly another alternative in 2016. Then in 2020 thanks to the pandemic, I decided to choose a different path. For other areas, it has also been a slow realisation and years of gradual growth. It remains a work in progress but I'm at the best place I've ever been personally in my life because I chose to graudally make freedom a priority.

Hi Ken I like your style of presentation and I like your name, it was my dad's. Anyway, do I pay off the mortgage with my lump sums from three different pensions( not enough just from my main one) and then, once mortgage free ,pump huge savings back into isas and general savings to replace those lost lump sums? It sounds a no brainer but then I'm left with reduced income. It's a challenge. Was thinking of then leaving this stressful well paid job ( with which to restore said lump sums) and getting a BandQ type job.

Who has the mentality someone gonna save them I can't believe that's even a topic anyone who believes that is DEL-USION-AL 😮. If you are high enough salary or decent salary you don't need to work full time not worth it . If you can work hybrid great I would never go bk to having to enter bricks and mortar everyday soo long waste of time and money not worth the stress. Building someone else dream I've been saying this for last decade absolutely Madness.

The more money earn the more to should save but still enjoy nice things meaning by good quality clothes you spend less overall by overseas like the Netherlands vat free since we're not part of the EU.
