Buckingham is owned by the crown estate. Not by the Windsors. The occupied royal palaces are held in trust for the nation by the King. Thier maintenance and expenses are paid by the gov in return for the surrender by the king of the hereditary revenues of the Crown. So, the profit from tourism, sales of goods and services, etc does not go to the royal family, but to the state.

@@godfreyberry1599 To large of a space for gas and when used the gas must be contained to work. An unchecked fire does "untold damage"! Water from a sprinkler system uses FAR less water than Fire Fighters and their hoses, please take a lesson from Windsor Castle. One 2.5" fire hose puts our 500 GPM and multiple hoses would be used. One sprinkler, which normally puts out a fire or holds it in check puts out 26 GPM and sends an alarm within 60 seconds of it opening. The money for the monarchy comes from a set grant (the civil list) out of revenues from the crown estate which the monarch voluntarily gives to the government. If they were asked to pay for it directly, the government would get less money from the crown estate. Real taxes would go up.
