Good video. One advice: we need more than one second when you are comparing with for example sausage fattener and without. You are playing like it like for two seconds while talking over it at the same time and turning the knob to 100 and than back to 35.

My method is to use Sonnox Voca to auto level between phrases and add some very gentle compression and harmonics then Soothe 2 mainly focused on low mids to get consistency in that range then I add Arturia 1173 with a touch of drive, high boost and a little boost at 3/4k. I then do some deessing with Waves Sibilance, then add the Arturia 1176 adding heavy compression but only mix it in 25%. Then I add somible smart EQ with a bit of the dynamic mode to level it out. Love your method too. Hadn't thought of trying sausage fattener

Your channel is basically my main source for learning mixing & mastering, thank you so much! Since I'm a beginner, I always lose you when you talk about (Busses-Sending Signals, etc).. It's really hard to understand why are you not just adding the reverb on the main vocal?

Great video! I always wonder if you make the same cuts and boosts to female vocals. I'd love to see you demonstrate that sometime. Love the channel!
@theindiemusiclab

Thank you! And yes, in general, EQ problems on vocals tend to pop up at the same areas regardless if it’s male or female. It’s a very individual thing as well. For example, I often make a drastic cut at 2k for my voice, but I rarely make that wild of a cut on other vocals. Listening to your vocals on multiple speakers & earbuds can really help you gain some clarity on what frequency areas may be out of balance. Good luck! And thanks for the tutorial idea. I will most certainly look into a video like that!

What instrument are you using for those bells? Sounds great.
@theindiemusiclab

Appreciate it! It’s a super basic glockenspiel sound in one of my stock Studio One VST’s. I just needed a bell sound and it was one of the first sounds I stumbled on. It’s nothing special by itself.

awesome video. had a question on your compression section. what if the vocal is comprised of many takes stitched together, all with different volumes? how do you balance the volume level? i feel like compressors only go so far with that

Thanks Marcus! I noticed on the slap delay with reverb that you didn’t use any pre-delay on the reverb. So the slap delay is filling that role? Why might one prefer this technique over using the built-in pre-delay within the reverb? Or how does it differ?
@theindiemusiclab
@theindiemusiclab Жыл бұрын
You’re exactly correct. That is the function of the pre-delay in a reverb plug-in. I’m sure I could’ve made that reverb sound almost the same if I had used pre-delay instead of the slap delay. It’s more of a habitual thing for me to grab a slap delay and then throw reverb on after, but it’s by no means the only way to achieve that sound. At the end of the day, it’s all about what sounds cool, so try both approaches and see which gives you a sound you like more.

what is that pad sound in the intro
@theindiemusiclab
@theindiemusiclab Жыл бұрын
Are you referring to the electric guitar track in the intro? Because there is only a bass and electric guitar in that section. You can check out the video here if you want more details on the production of this remake: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqWZqJJjhbdlpZI

Too much compression for my ears. The highs in your music stick out and the over compression is uncomfortable on the ears. Thanks for the tips but nope.
