Interesting solution bypassing the BMS on discharge - I guess as long as you manage your discharge current within the limits of the pack and make sure never to discharge below 2.5V per cell there's really no reason to pass discharge through BMS. On the other hand, its nice to be able to electronically manage over-discharge and low-voltage protection via the app, and ANT BMS makes a model capable of 450A discharge at a very reasonable cost. Good arguments to be made for BMS and bypass BMS

Just discovered your channel. Nice documentation. Already decided on this battery type for a supermoto build. My finished battery pack serves 72v 40Ah. I didn’t go bigger because I prepared the build for on-board fast charging with Type-2 connector. We have so many commercial charging options here in Sweden that I could compromise the Ah for less weight. Now I’m researching super-capacitor benefits thanks to your build.

because they know that's not how you build a battery pack. You need some sort of metal or solid bracket to clamp all the individual cells together, not just tape. The outer metal box doesn't count. the bus bars are bolted meaning they're not going to move. so if you just tape the cells together, they ARE going to move, however minuscule, especially on a bike. Because tape flexes. And what will happen is that the bus bars are going to start damaging the cells. If you look at any sort of lithium battery building kits, they always comes with some sort of bracket to stop the cells from moving, relative to each other.
@SniperSnake50BMG4 жыл бұрын
@@knightsljx well for a homemade battery pack that one is really well done, there is plenty o tape so it's not that bad for the vibration and when you see it enclosed in the metal box it fits nicely that I don't see the flexing being a problem and at the same time sealed with silicon so for me it is pretty safe for the pack itself

LiFePO4 probably wouldn't be my first choice for batteries in an application where weight and power density matters but out of curiosity I thought I'd compare it to the batteries I used in my last 18650 pack. Each LiFePO4 cell is 2100g which equates to 42 Samsung 30Q 18650 batteries. An equivalent size 30Q pack would provide up to 630A continuous discharge over 270A, 126 AH capacity over 90 AH and 12.5% higher voltage. The LiFePO4 pack would cost US1.5K and 30Q pack $4.8k. Well the LiFePO4 is definitely cheaper and better value I guess.

Recently here in my country some importer have imported a R3 knockoff that seems pretty good to work with and since I have been using my first electric motorcycle with LTO I want to create a similar project like yours but with a bigass LTO 18650 pack similar to your white bike but with slightly bigger capacity; 120v system and around 90~110Ah, I'm wondering if the seller of the BMS have a more parallel for a 45p to sum 126v if is only 32 will only be 89v(more range but less per). Possible a Kelly of Sablotom controller and in deciding if a mid drive motor like yours or a 12kw v3 hub motor... What I am most focused is the battery pack. Is similar to your white one but I will be using all the space to the top probably end up cutting a little the frame to make fit the pack.

@LordCurt4 жыл бұрын
Electric-ATV Channel I mean, the less weight the better, and the more KWH the better. This one is about 10kwh, which is actually pretty typical for a mainstream electric motorcycle. The Energica has about that capacity, but the weight is WAY higher. We’re still adding 6kwh more, and that’ll add another 80 pounds. It’ll have over 16kwh at point, weigh 230 pounds. The Harley livewire carries less and weighs 250 pounds. Plenty of bikes have heavier, but a smaller number have more capacity, so we’re on track. It should be close to the stock weight of the bike when we’re done.
