I took delivery of my Ioniq 6 SE with 18” wheels and AWD two weeks ago - it’s almost impossible to get the RWD extended range model. Very few are allocated. You have to be lucky to catch one “in transit.” My dealer gave me a discount off MSRP to consider AWD - not a bad option to have here in MA. The smaller wheels are key in giving you well over 300 miles of range in ECO and NORMAL. In those modes, you are usually only using the rear motors.SPORT engages the front motors, and you can feel a big difference immediately. I agree with all your positive comments. What I like best: this car hugs the road, wet or dry, like nothing I’ve ever driven. It’s great fun on MA’s twisty local roads. Only disappointment: mediocre sound system. Love your videos! UPDATE: getting 350 miles of range consistently with Normal mode!😮

Just a quick note to endorse Corbin‘s review as spot on, and my basis for saying that is I have an exact same model (except mine’s silver) on the same lease. My only quibble with the review is that Corbin dedicated just one sentence to a “pro” that deserves a whole paragraph: This car is a road beast!! I would choose the SE RWD again on that quality alone. It’s great for highway trips with long range, quick DC charging, quiet & comfortable cabin and excellent stablity. That combination is golden for long trips. On the “con” side, I have even more quibbles than Corbin about little minor things. But they are so unimportant compared to the fundamental performance and value of the car that I’m not gonna even mention them.

I wonder whether better wheel covers for the 20” wheels could be supplied by an aftermarket vendor to bring the limited trim’s range a little bit higher. Maybe 3D scanning the 18” wheel covers and building an extended diameter model to fit the rims would work, and then making the product from molds.
@joeysham

@BrianTRice77 the wheels being 20" reduces the range. The drag is a cherry on it, but the extra wheel it has to spin does the most of the dirty

I have the same Ioniq 6 RWD base-model here in Australia, in the same Ultimate Red colour. We have had it for 13 months and done a good deal of distance in it, now up to 22,000km after a some road-trips including two towing a Jayco camper-trailer, most recently a 5,500km trip. We love travelling in the car, it is SO quiet and comfortable. One thing that the Aussie model has is a bigger 'froot' than yours. I carry a 'Type 2 to Type 2' charge cable and the tyre repair kit there. Also I learned from experience to carry the jump-start /tyre-pump combo battery there. One day I found the key-fob would not work. I used the mechanical key to open but the car would not start - flat 12V. The jumps-start kit was in the boot, which would not open (no power). Had to call road-side service to get it started. Turns out I had most likely left the internal light on and this drained the 12V. I now leave the jump-start kit in the 'froot' as it is a much easier mechanical release. A couple of things about the Aussie RWD base-model - it comes with the same electric-adjustable and memory front seats as the higher models, the same BOSE sound system, interior ambient-lighting, bio-leather upholstery, and floor carpet.

I have a 24 Ioniq 6 limited AWD since January. I do love mine. The look, the material, the tech, and the remote features. The Bluelink is fantastic. But…the door materials are cheap and easily to scuff up, small trunk, Bose sound isn’t great at all and I wish the key fob was sturdier. I like that it’s light. But man do I really have to push down those buttons. I give the car an 8/10 which is still solid. Oh and that reflection. I was just thinking about that 2 days ago. It is a bit more reflection than I’ve had before. Wonder why that is.

I have the Ioniq 6 SE AWD with 18 inch wheels. I live in NW NJ which is a zone 4-5 climate. I have put 32000 miles on it in 16 months-April 2023-August 2024. The computer says I am averaging 4.8 miles per kwh. After 12 months (only one summer) it was 4.7 miles per kwh. I drive mostly in eco mode (RWD) so the range is close to what I would get in the RWD model. With the 77 kwh battery that means 4.7X77= 361 miles range. I drive reasonably-62-65 mph on highways and use the great seat heaters most of the time instead of blasting the cabin heat. I have had no issues with it-charging mostly at home at 24 Amps. I occasionally use fast DC Charging and again it was fine. This is a fantastic car-highly recommend.

Just got over the one year hump with my Limited AWD i6 and have loved it. Got the LinerX mats for the New England winters and they held up really well. Only issues I have with it is the amount of updates that require going to the dealership to complete and for some reason the taillight strip on top and the middle of the trunk have de laminated/cracked. Luckily my dealer is replacing it under warranty. Other than those minor things, I love this car and how cheap it is to fuel up.

This car is very nice but my question to you is, how did you settle for this trim? I have the 23 Sel IoinQ 5 and every so often I get in my feels about not getting the top trim but it doesn't last long because the SEL is no slouch. You know you are a top trim guy and you got this for 2 solid years. You'll survive but it's likely to sting a bit. :)

I looked hard at the 6 when I upgraded from the old Ioniq - there is something completely right in making EVs low and efficient and the old Ioniq from 2016 is still more efficient than ANY EV out there today!! There is one thing that prevents me from ever driving the 6 and that's the sedan format, I can not live with a sedan without that wonderful big tailgate. I wish they would revive the old Ioniq one day keeping the small car size, the tailgate and the insane efficiency and adding a 50 kwh battery. I bought a Niro EV instead and I am loving everything about it, maybe except the efficiency.

I don’t know where you came up with the 376 mile range. Based on your history of 4.1 miles/ kilowatt hour over 1146 miles you would get about 303 miles on a full charge. Which is about what what I get on my ioniq5 all-wheel-drive in mixed driving. But you’re definitely doing better at high-speed highway driving than my car does. Thanks for another one of your typically good reviews. You do a fantastic job and you’re very helpful. There is no real coasting. Rear motor is always connected and generating (or pulling) energy. So don‘t worry about regen levels, just drive the way you like. With one exemption. I-Pedal uses both motors in EGMP AWD cars, which is a pity. So don‘t use i-Pedal in AWD cars.
@fangitjoe

Yeh I don't see how no regen can be more efficient than using regen no matter what type of driving. Sure, maybe on a flat road "coasting" to a stop at an intersection from the speed limit (if you could time it that perfectly and be bothered to wait that long) you'd lose less energy than driving normally and using just regen to stop the car. But nobody drives like that or lives in a flat world. In the real world cars not using regen have to waste energy on the brakes to slow or stop. Cars with regen recover most of that energy. And if you have blended braking (regen assisted brakes) you're not going to recover any more (and probably less) than simply using a regen drive setting.

I leased a 2025 Ioniq 6 a few months ago and I can only say I hate the car. The controls are unnecessarily complicated and often redundant. The manual is impossible and the index is totally useless. The car sometimes refuses to go into cruise control even though the day before, under the same conditions, no problem. Dealers unable to explain this and other issues. Bluelink is impossible to set up. And what's the useless blue left pointing arrow on the dash for? Who knows? Just plain annoying controls. Worst of all, the mileage it says you have on electric charge is far less than reality. Last trip I had 253 miles to start; I drove 90 miles and had 88 miles left on charge. It is quiet though, not unlike my Tesla Model 3 which is a fantastic car with simple, logical controls.

I have watched alot of EV reviews. Although I am still unsatisfied on the question of "How efficient is the thermal management of EVs?" As we all know the number one enemy of EV batteries is "HEAT". All videos I have watched regarding battery thermal management, their main highlight is cold temperature effecting range and the like. How about countries with tropical or hot climate areas? We also want to know the other side of the coin. Comparing it to "gaming PC's". We want to know the exact data/numbers of the temperature, to know whether or not the preferred battery temperature is being maintained or not. Since the correlation of heat and battery degradation is stronger in high temperatures. The topic regarding with battery thermal management in tropical/hot climate/summer time is not being tackled much or just being ignored. I hope you make a new video regarding the efficiency of thermal management in hot weather. Thanks!

You said it's a rear wheel drive model but the smaller frunk is on the all wheel drive model because of the motor up front. The rear wheel drive should have a bigger frunk. I own a real wheel drive and I have the bigger frunk, granted mine is european trim so I wonder if that is an american trim thing, which makes no sense really. Why would they not fit the bigger frunk if there was no motor in the front? My guess is that your car is actually an awd.
