Kitabwala: Anger Management: Troubled diplomatic relationship between India and Pakistan.
In this episode, The Lallantop talks with Ajay Bisaria, former diplomat and former High Commissioner of India to Pakistan.
Ajay Bisaria is a commentator on international affairs and a Distinguished Fellow at the Observer Research Foundation. He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1987 and, in a career spanning thirty-five years, dealt with some of India’s key economic and security relationships. He served as Indian high commissioner to Pakistan from 2017 to 2020. He has been the Indian high commissioner to Canada and India’s ambassador to Poland and Lithuania. He has also served as a key aide to Prime Minister Vajpayee from 1999 to 2004.
On 7 August 2019, High Commissioner Ajay Bisaria was expelled from Islamabad, the first time an Indian head of mission had been asked to leave by Pakistan. His expulsion marked yet another low in the troubled relationship between the two neighbours who had been born within a day of each other in 1947. The latest diplomatic row followed the dismantling of Article 370 in the erstwhile state of Jammu & Kashmir, but the hostility had been ratcheting up for a while, with the Pakistani terror attack in Pulwama, followed by the Indian airstrikes on terrorists in Balakot, and the grandstanding Pakistan engaged in over the return of a captured Indian Air Force pilot, Abhinandan Varthaman.
This book looks in detail at all these incidents that took place while Ajay Bisaria was India’s top diplomat in Pakistan, including blunders by Imran Khan, the then Pakistani prime minister, and parleys engaged in by the powerful head of the Pakistani army, General Qamar Bajwa. He also describes his interactions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, and key members of the Indian establishment as they dealt with the multiple crises that took place during that time.

Unfortunately Ajay Sir is not right about Jinnah wanting a Secular pakistan. In the book "Jinnah" by Dr. Istiaq Ahmed, he clearly says that Jinnah wanted an Islamic republic, but he did not talk about details because it would have created conflict between sects of islam like Shia, Sunni, Ahamadiya and other sub-sects. Jinnah had nothing to do with Secularism

Exactly. Had this been the case jinnah wouldn't have demanded a separate country on religious grounds. The reason given by Pt. Nehru in one of his interviews sounds more convincing that jinnah had never been a part of freedom struggle and when brits leaving India seemed inevitable and he had found indian leadership hellbent on bringing in land reforms, he raised his demand of separate country in cohoots with jamaat e islami because he, along with other big muslim landlords, didn't want to lose their massive land holdings.

As to people asking about salutations mostly media students are taught to avoid salutations before and after names, it is needed to show impartiality, holding the public in a democracy at the highest regard. For pronunciation mostly it comes due to the lack of some of the "Khari Boli" sounds in our dialects like Awadhi, Bhojpuri, and Brajbhasha. So as far as writing is concerned, everyone would write the same standard. But spoken would be different. That is what diversity in our great country sounds like. We all can accept that much. We are all the children of the revered Bharat Mata. Jai Hind.

As an anchor, voice and subject knowledge of the interview being conducted are important skills. The anchor must work on pronunciation (English and Hindi both were off), you can't say my Hindi pronunciation is bad when you're working for a Hindi channel. Ucchran pe kaam karne se mujhe nahi lagta ki aap kuch chhote ho jayenge. You don't have to be perfect, but fumbling (specifically at the beginning) with so many words doesn't create a good impression, especially when the other person is so good. Please come live by practicing a bit more. Not saying that Saurabh should only do this, but at least others can learn from him.

This optimism towards pakistan, however little and cautious, at the hands of high echelons of indian dispensation, especially at the diplomatic level must cease to exit after so many instances in which India had to suffer so much at the hands of pk. A broke pk will be much more easier to handle than a prosperous paxtan.
