Күн бұрын

Gordon Murray gives a detailed tour of his new T33 615bhp V12 Supercar (30 yrs after McLaren F1). Jonny Smith was invited to the new Gordon Murray Automotive (GMA) site in Surrey, where Gordon himself gave a deep-dive tour of this second GMA supercar - the T.33.
The T33 uses the same high revving Cosworth V12 engine as the T50, but is a sided driving position supercar (left or right hand drive), available with manual or rapid paddleshift auto. Weighing only 1090kg and red-lining at 11,100rpm, the £1.3 million freshly launched car sits below the flagship T50 (central driving position) model, and as such costs over a million less.
Thanks for stopping by The Late Brake Show.

Only a few minutes in but brilliant so far....I love Gordon Murray's absolute passion and creativity. The man is now in his 70s and there are no signs of slowing or not progressing further, he's still chasing that dream of the ultimate supercar and following one of his idols, Colin Chapman guiding principles, simplify and add lightness.

Excellent! Both Jonny and Gordon are legendary. The way he explained the aero is brilliant. Even with a technical understanding of how diffusers and ground effects work etc, he gave so much more insight in short concise sentences. The car itself is beautiful, clean simple lines, reminds me of a Muira and a Yamaha OX99-11. I've actually got this and a Muira below in my video feed so the comparison is inevitable.

I think I must have seen most of these T33 walkaround videos by now today; each and every one has been great to watch because, of all people, Gordon Murray has a way with words that, no matter how many times he says the same thing (albeit to different people), it never gets any less interesting. Fascinating bloke!

Over recent times, I have become quite numb to supercars as they've gotten more tacky and generally look out of place if they're not in Dubai. So I must say fair play to Gordan Murray and his team for totally getting me to admire this car. I could listen for hours as he explains the details as to why this is that etc, and it is no doubt a beautiful car the T33. P.s a rear 45° angle is my favourite view but you can't really go wrong either way. Top video as always Jonny 👍

When Jonny announced he was leaving the Fully Charged show, I was really disappointed. He was great on that show. As it turns out, it's the best thing he's ever done in my view. He's created a niche that we didn't know we needed. An eclectic mix of car stories from the cheapest back yard banger to the people that actually create supercars and everything in between. From humble projects in sheds to giants of the industry like Gordon Murray. Always interesting, always really well presented. All thanks to his connections and the respect that the industry has for him. Fantastic work Jonny.

I could see your disbelief when asking about the preselect gearbox. You cannot have both engaged at the same time with different ratios unless one has some form of slip (clutch) or outright disengagement (dogs). So this transmission is magic? Keen to hear how it actually works, the rest was pretty good, but he really dropped the ball talking about the auto/paddle box, there. Your reaction was graceful and gentle, good on you. :-)

Despite the cars clearly being priced way beyond affordability for most, the important thing about this company is it's clear focus on delivering the key elements driving enthusiasts seek. The brilliant part about it from a commercial perspective is that they are selling less physical car for more money, whilst preserving what a drivers car really is. These design principles and how they have been distilled into a self marketing product are likely to have a trickle down effect across the industry, which can only benefit all driving enthusiasts, not just those who can afford GMA cars.

Fantastic Video Johnny. You were wasted on Main stream media. These deep dives and car caves and barn finds are so good. I would rather watch these than contrived challenges biased comparison reviews any day! Thanks for what you are doing (on that side of things)

Seeing this vid made me wish I could sit in a pub all night, just discussing cars with Jonny and Gordon and with plentiful pints of lager. Both these guys are very gifted and talented within their respective domains of automotive work. Jonny in automotive journalism/entertainment and seeming to be one of the most sympathetic people on the planet and then Gordon in car design/development/production and oozing relaxing vibes saying everything is thought of... even maintenance costs and the price of tires. Turn on the calm blood pressure in a video about a car that will definitely raise the blood pressure within everybody seeing or driving the thing. I could watch this video over and over. The 50 in my opinion, no matter how fantastic it is technically, is sad and drab looking from the front with it's HUGE disharmonic headlights and even though the turbine thingy at the back looks Batmobile cool and does it's thing, it´s the exact opposite of elegant. But the T33 is exactly the opposite of the opposite of elegant , because it's elegant, simple yet swoopy and it oozes modestly styled panache. 007 style... I'm drooling over it, but luckily you can't see it. It's a bit embarrassing really, but at least a lot of petrol heads will understand. Only weird fact is that Gordon Murray wanted it to be the T33 because it was supposed to have a 3.3 liter V12, but got at 4.99 liter for technically reasonable reasons. He didn't change the name to T40, even though it would be more in sync with the T50 nomenclature - but that was off into the bushes already because the T 50 is a 4.0 liter engine - the two cars engines are almost the same 4.999 ccm displacement powerplant. Nomenclature nonsense in two cars from a guy who takes the time and effort to design cars to look most harmonic in certain colours and does otherworldly engineering and quality - but the names of the cars are completely rid of personality and technical reasoning in the end product. Resulting in two groundbreaking amazing high-tec supercars with names sounding like printer cartridges.... Cool thing is, that they sell themselves, not unlike Nutella. And there's room for the brown edible gold in both a Frunk (Front trunk) and 2 Hunks (Hip trunks) in the T33. Good thing that GMA only makes a 100 of these, because Ferrari et. al. would bleed - compared to the level of engineering these 2 british hand grenades are boasting - no matter how great their roadgoing missiles are.

So great hearing Gordon's enthusiasm for his work. Hopefully in time the company can make some larger volume models so that seeing one on the road isn't a once in a lifetime thing.

It wouldn’t be the same then would it? These have to be limited to warrant the price and deliver the product and customer experience that GMA are aiming for.
