Im from Georgia. Georgia is the heart of "The South". "The South" (Florida, Alabama, Georgia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, and the western half of Virginia) is known for rough neck people who like to try stupid things to see what happens. This song showcases the "hey bubba, hold my beer for a minute" attitude here. Betting with the devil for gold fiddle(violin) vs your soul is definitely a Southern thing to do! Not the smartest idea. LOL

in the hands of a southerner or a Irish person a violin is a fiddle. i like the saying the diffrence between a violin and a fiddle is a violin has strings a fiddle has strangs.

Yes! I saw another reaction to this, and he summed it up very well, pointing out that so many songs today are filled with so much swearing that it just becomes background noise. While in a song like this something as mild as “son of a bitch” has so much more impact.

yep, this song was so good the FM rock stations played it lots, too..probably one of the biggest-selling records of the year. I bet that ol Devil's still sore from that whippin' Johnny gave him! I imagine he's playing for his grandchildren on that same hickory stump, with the kids asking him to tell the story of how he got the golden fiddle-again. NO way can anyone anywhere in the world resist such a great song..I knew you'd love it big time!

The Charlie Daniels Band specialized in giving their audience a window into a specific part of the South. "The Legend of Wooley Swamp" is as expressive but in a totally different direction. That one would be a nice follow up to "The Devil Went Down to Georgia".

Note that learning the "fiddle" or violin, was not uncommon in the south during the 18-1900s . Often this was used in bluegrass music. Worth looking into.
@mikematusek4233 Жыл бұрын
1979 Saratoga, New York, far from the south and the land of country music. Remember, the fiddle was a military enlisted man's instrument, a poor man's instrument. In 1979 he had to reedit the line to make it "Son of a gun" to get the song played.

I have no idea where that stereotype comes from. I only own one straw, one leather, and one crush cap. And I bought custom fitted hats for my relatives for my for Christmas. They had hats but I felt two of them needed nicer hats for fun. 😅 Not joking though, most people around here just wear baseball hats, except for weirdos like me who wear "cabbie caps" or whatever else I feel like.

Ancient Atlantean music reincarnated with equal surprise. There are so many others! The message in it is....we ALL are the same in one. You will feel it. No one ever mentions the musicians who spoke in music for the Atlantean world. We see some of them are still here now like us. Don't let the devil in the house with the rising sun ever win. Sun represents Son. Both as one.

imo the Devil actually won that dual. As a kid I was rooting for Johnny, but as an adult I just like the wicked funk too much! The Devil whispered to me one night, "You are not strong enough to withstand the storm". I whispered back, "At least I didn't lose my golden fiddle to a hillbilly in Georgia".
