Nice job! Something very relaxing about watching an engine rebuild but maybe that's just me ... 😂

Yeah it's fun and relaxing . It's a slow paced video as far as recording but it's a nice change. 👍

Great video. 2:00 Can the thrust washers be installed with the crank remaining in place and can the lower block be re&re with the transmission remaining in place? Thanks

I messaged you on a pic of that bad azz build.. I'm struggling with end play clearance. Were you able to see it physically move side to side but not up and down? I can physically see it move left to right around a 16th of an inch maybe a tiny bit less than an eighth of an inch

Sorry i didnt see your comment. By eye i couldn't see any movement. The only movement i had was back n forth which is why i used a dial indicator.

Thx for the response , that's what's I meant it side to side as in left to right

1/16th of an inch is 62.5 thou, about 6 times maximum spec of 10 thou. Are you having any driveability issues or engine noises or oil leaks? My K24 crank has about 50 thou of endplay and maybe I am close to having to replace the engine?

@@canuckfixit7722 turned out to be the thrust washers had to use ACL. King bearings were to thin even for standard size.. that's alot of crank walk. Only reason for that is worn journals or thrust spacers

I'm a little confused, .038 reads thirty eight thousandths, why did you say it's about 15 thousandths.. The correct way to do this is to use a dial bore guage to measure all the main bearing and all rod bearing torqued in place without being attached to the crank, then once you have the bearing I.D. for the mains and the rods, u need to take a measurement of the main and rod journals of the crank keeping track of each crank main 1- 5 and each rod journal 1- 4, then subtract the crank main journal measurements from the mains in the block with the bearings installed. Do the same for the rods, subtract each rod journal on the crank from the rod bearing I.D. of the bearings torqued in the rods..Do this for each rod..This will tell you exactly what the bearing clearance for each main journal bearing is and also each rod bearing..Then compare all these measurements and decide if you need to mix 1/2 shells in over or undersized bearings together to get the measurement for your oil clearance you are looking for.. Plastuguage cannot give you that accuracy.. It also doesn't hurt to measure the bearing thickness with a digital micrometer to know if you have the right bearings to start with.. There is a proper bearing thickness guage for measuring bearings, but a digital micrometer can be used to measure the very tip of the bearing on the flattest corner tip of the bearing opposite side of bearing without the tang or the flat side..

It was .038 mm on the one side of the PG which is roughly 1.5 thousandths or 15 ten thousandths on the inch side. A dial bore gauge would be more accurate but $250 in tools vs $5 just to double check an engine that was back from the machine shop is overkill when you don't build engines very often as he said.

Hi, this is my first build after following yours. I need your help, i've done a plastic gauge testing 3 of the journal's fall under 0.025 and the other 2 fall under 0.038 which is a red colour plastic gauge. Is this in the specifications? If you could get back to me i would appraicate it. Cheers

Off the top of my head I can't remember the specs, you may have to Google it . I'm pretty sure they should all fall into the specs of the green plastigauge. Sounds like you may need different size bearings for those journals. Did you take the crank to a machine shop before assembly?

It looked like there were two spots the thrust washers could've gone into did I not see that right? Also that seal looked better than OEM. It's obvious you took your time. I know I'm too lazy to go back over stuff like that. Prolly good I don't build engines
@themechanic6117
@themechanic6117 6 жыл бұрын
At first glance it looks like it but you'll never be able to fit them there. Thank you, I'm very happy with the seal. When I first set it down there was areas with too much squeeze out and some with non at all so I knew I had to fix that . 👍
