I took delivery of mine at the start of Feb in Australia and love it, but I have still been eagerly awaiting your review. You summed up the bike really well, and I reckon with more time on it, it could become your favourite retro ! You didn't mention the Corso III tyres, that add a lot to the confident feel, and the standard pipes sound great too, although they don't look so great with the black finish. I hope you get a chance to do a long term review on the bike in due course.

@@TheMissendenFlyer Thanks for the welcome. Just a curiosity question. Do Triumph no longer make the smaller engine bikes such as the Tiger 90 350 or the Tiger 100 500. The modern bikes all seem to be larger capacity engines ie 1200cc.

I had a 90 min demo on one of these (same spec as this one) bad boys today & covered 71 miles in beautiful 23 degrees sunshine.😎 What a wonderful machine it is, was surprised how small it was in the flesh against the likes of the Kawasaki z900rs though, however I liked it more because of that fact! Wonderful dollops of raw torque from 2000rpm - all the way to the 7000k rpm redline... although I did find it quite vibey above the 5000rpm mark!.. But that’s a small complaint, as is the “on the firm side” suspension. It just felt so light & nimble & ate up all the fast sweeping bends I threw at it with ease... Classic looks with modern speed/handling & great brakes - fantastic combo! Well done Triumph 👍🏻 I now want one for myself as a second bike.😁

Had a go on one the other week. Nice bike but the power delivery is a bit on/off, whereas a Street Triple is super smooth. I know in part that is the difference in engine type, but I’ve ridden other twins with smoother power delivery. Maybe it was just the bike I rode???

Great review and what an utterly gorgeous bike (although I'd personally go for it in the red). I think this has just pushed the new 900 Street Scrambler off the top spot on my Triumph wish list. My only gripe with Triumph is that they're increasingly going down the BMW route of listing a meaningless headline price and then making you pay extra for all the nice bits.

Just went for a test ride an hour ago at a dealership test ride day. It’s a compact bike with plenty of usable power, though obviously not in the superbike range. Everything about it is as you said. I take back earlier on when I said that the exhaust should sound like the old Meriden Triumphs, the one on this bike does sound good, though it did pop and bang a bit on the over run. There seemed to be a bit of vibration through the fuel tank, but not unpleasant. I’m comparing it to my Z900RS though, which is super smooth. If I wanted a parallel twin I’d buy it, but I like my Z900RS too much.

Great review as usual. Thanks! I test rode the r nine T and Z900RS recently and shall be riding this soon. Looking to replace my street triple. Many great choices in the neo-classic segment. For me the inimitable boxer engine note may be the tie breaker although the buttery smoothness and design of the Z900RS are very tempting.

Great review as ever . A monster engine no doubt and absolutely beautifully designed and finished . But the pricing !! £10500 for basic £10800 for a decent paint job The bike as ridden must be nearer £12K and non adjustable forks and only only preload in rear . Triumph I’m sorry that’s just not good enough for British riders on British roads . You are gonna price away many sales. When you look at the competition you’ve gotta really want one . If you had to have Just one bike to buy TMF and 12k to spend , would you buy this one ? Sadly I don’t think I would .
@TheMissendenFlyer5 жыл бұрын

Interesting take Andy. I was thinking it was a steal after watching 44 teeth's review. They're retailing for $12800 US which is pretty close to Sportster pricing, and no doubt this is a better bike (I've owned a couple Sportsters) but I feel like they're somewhat comparable. The idea of trading in my Speed triple towards one of these even entered my mind. Maybe I'm just itching for spring.
@peterhatfield56325 жыл бұрын
I disagree that "that’s just not good enough for British riders on British roads". I've test ridden this Speed Twin, and the non-adjustable front fork is just fine for anyone of average weight - most people don't adjust the fork and rear suspension anyway.
@andyblackburn20685 жыл бұрын
Peter Hatfield Most people if the suspension is harsh will try and dial it out surely . You don’t pay 11k and not wanna ride it cos it tries to break your wrists . Also most people aren’t average weight . 11.5 st They are sprung for an “average weight” who may or may not take a pillion or may or may not take luggage . They are designed not to fail . They are probably oversprung and under damped as most most cheap OE suspension is . The fact that they are non adjustable other than preload is unacceptable imo . If you’ve ever ridden a properly set up bike for you (F & R) there’s a world of difference. My point is in this price range the suspension below average .

Good short review. Took the words out of my mouth: if I was in the market... If the Speed Twin had been around when I chose my T120. The lighter bike appeals, but I’m left wondering if the quality and spec of the T120 is higher, so too the T120 holding it’s resale value. This bike looks ideal for the odd local blast. Not quite as pretty as the T120 IMHO, not cheap either.

Largely. The pistons get crusty and won't retract all the way. That has in the past lead to the rear brake pads dragging. Just cleaning the gunk off gets them working again. When I change pads then I lube the pistons too.@@Mikey__R

Strewth, i'm really appreciative now of our dry climate in oz. I wash my bikes once every 10 rides. Blighty, appears it needs a wash every ride. Nice review as usual, I like how the old style bike is more into the modern era now. Triumph really do try to throw all the modern stuff at their bikes. This video is my "Never clicked a video so fast" video. I've been waiting for your review. I agree with you on the point between the Thruxton and the T120. I test rode both and I love the Thruxton's handling and the engine. When i rode the T120, i did enjoy the bike but i felt that the engine was a bit lacking. I get the point of the T120 vs Thruxton. But I always thought it would be a nice custom idea to either get T120 and put Thruxton engine in it, or get Thruxton and replace it's parts with t120 tank and handlebars, but that would probably cost a lot of money. Then Triumph announced this bike and i was like YES, YES!!!. Can't wait for it to reach our shores. Greetings from South Africa

Nice bike, and if I hadn’t bought my Z900RS last March, this would be my second choice. (Z900RS still first choice though!). One thing though, what’s with all these parallel twins going for the V-twin sound. Everyone one else was there including Aprilia, BMW, KTM, Indian, Harley, and all the Japanese makes. I wonder why Triumph didn't bother. Anyway, thanks to your review I got a taste of the new bike and now I really want to see it in person.

Verry nice review but cant decide between this or the standard scrambler 1200 have you rode this to? Is there allot difference in the engine feel and handling, the thing about the scrambler that anoys me is the heat coming from the exhaust on your knees

I do get my inner leg warmed up a bit on one of these. Nothing too uncomfortable. Guess I'll like it come the winter.

Lovely bike, thanks for the review. Notice you're still pronouncing bezel to rhyme with gazelle :) - you should think of Bez from the Happy Monday's and say it like, "Bez'll love this bike!" Whatever, it's a great video, thanks again.

That sir, is the Triumph that takes the Bonneville up a more than a couple of notches. Great design and it seems to be smack bang in the sweet spot for most of us. Nothing to complain about.

What a thoroughly professionally produced first riding impression. I think you have now secured a USP in this regard, at least, in the UK. I agree that it is rather hard to buy a bad new bike; it is something of a golden period. I was also going to ask the same question as Andy Allen as I own one of the first top of the range RnineT. Which Triumph retro (of all the many they produce) would you choose, if any, over the BMW?

Thanks for the kind words David - tough one...as I also love the Kawasaki Z900RS!! It would be between the R9T Scrambler, Triumph Scrambler (not ridden the 1200 yet) and the Kawa currently - but I'm eagerly awaiting more news on the new Triumph Rocket which looks incredible.....

Lovely. This would be top of my list in UK. Doesn’t seem many places to strap luggage.

I'm liking the look of this. Sounds lovely aswell but the only thing I would change would be to put wire spoked wheels on. I wonder if Triumph would put wheels from a Thruxton or whatever on?

Very nice bike indeed sir!..... could I ask what info was on the partial digital displays on the twin clocks?...

Gear indicator, trips, fuel, mpg, riding mode, clock ... may have left some out.

The regular exhaust pipes with the black section are the only styling thing I didn't like . Don't guess I'd change them, since they sounded okay.

The Vance and Hines ones look nice!

@@TheMissendenFlyer Yes they do look good. I've spent as much as I can currently. Maybe they'll get changed later . The datatracker, alarm and dresser bars and bobbins were a higher priority Also I need a removable back rest for my wife when one becomes available, not sure if she'll be able to hang on (I had an issue, and I had the handle bars). Guess I'll have to be careful with the throttle and maybe leave it in rain mode !

This bike is powerful and beautiful at the same time but expensive in India. Someday I will own it.

If you had to choose one bike would it be the speed twin or the street triple 675r ? Love all your reviews and your Chanel mate! Sending love from Australia.
@TheMissendenFlyer2 жыл бұрын
Well I just sold my street triple and are keeping my speed twin - does that answer the question?
@joshua41792 жыл бұрын
@@TheMissendenFlyer yes it does ;) sweet. It looks like an awesome all round. Do it all bike for city and spirited rides. Bye bye street triple! I’m about to do the same I think. Thanks for the reply

Great review (as usual). Shame about the lack of heated grips and cruise control as standard (although admittedly it’s not a cruiser). Presumably both are available as Triumph options?
