Gave civil government positions to minorities so that the majority had no power . No uprisings for human rights or freedom suppressed that way. Banned colonials speaking their own languages in schools and government offices to the point that their ancestral languages have become almost extinct as in Canada, US, Australia etc. That is how they “ kept the lid” to avoid people opposing their rule by instigating animosity against people of their colonies to fight against each other amongst themselves based on race, religion or caste. People who lived together in harmony disregarding differences became enemies and areas where they lived were divided on racial and religious lines. People were made to move from ancestral homes to other areas based on religion or race! It happened in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan. Kashmir is still unresolved. The root cause of 30 year war in Sri Lanka , wars in Myanmar, Sudan etc. is this policy that led to “broiling tensions.” Ethnic cleansing in Palestine which is now no longer in existence as a country is a result of Britain’s “divide and rule” policy.

Doesn't the extent of injustice depend on what counts as the 'state' involved. For a Palestinian who thinks that the whole region from the river to the sea is their land, there are several types of passport and levels of treatment. For an Israeli Jew who thinks that Israel is one state and that the Gaza Strip and West Bank are not part of that state then there are only two levels of passport for Israel. This is not ideal, but it is normal for states to treat their own citizens differently (and better) than citizens of other states.

Very informative, thank you. I can follow a lot of the argumentation in this clip. What irritates me and puzzles me is the claiming usage of the term “indigenous” in this context. I’m not sure it can be that simply applied in this case. Some Jewish Israelis also claim this term for themselves, and it’s fair to say it’s contentious. This land area has been a transit zone and has had changing borders and political alignments for millennia. I support the cause for equal rights, and the right to return if you have been exposed to ethnic cleansing, but please choose/use this kind of terminology with caution.
