I'm going to agree with the name (The Music is a terrible name for a band). However, I also think their fashion sense played a huge part. Image is really important for a band too. Let's look at some of the other bands that came out at the time. The White Stripes, Franz Ferdinand and The Hives all had a uniform look with certain colours. Coldplay used to go around in dark, buttoned-up coats or other winter clothing, which went well with their mellow music and the "cold" in their name. Maroon 5 had that hot guy, beachy California vibe. The Strokes had that underground New York look with the leather jackets and tight jeans. The Killers wore a lot of colourful collared shirts with blazers or vests (often with ties). Kings of Leon had that Americana, '70s rock look. And then there were people like Sum 41, Simple Plan, Good Charlotte and Avril Lavigne, who had that skater, pop punk look. The Music look like they had bought their clothes from Sports Direct. They'd go on stage wearing tracksuits and a baggy T-shirt with a massive Adidas logo on it. The guitarist and bassist look particularly bad in this video, in their loose-fitting bootcut jeans and tracksuit tops. I know Arctic Monkeys wore a lot of jeans and tracksuits when they came out a few years later, but it went well with the style of music they made at the time (songs about being young lads, going out to clubs and getting up to mischief). I think The Music really should've gone with a more hippie or psychedelic '60s look. Paisley shirts, bell bottoms, beads or medallions, etc. With the way they looked, I don't think they were able to get enough of a female following. They ended up becoming a band for blokes.
@benhasel45402 жыл бұрын
@@caliente-frio3966 This is absolutely true. Even with bands that wanted to apparently "not caring about fashion" they in the end tried very hard. It's not strange even today, when everybody want to impress the most with stupid clothes rather than offer quality music
@wintermute8315 Жыл бұрын
@@caliente-frio3966 Sorry mate, but if you think dressing like a hippie pastiche was cooler back then than wearing Adidas, you're nuts. As you said, arctic monkeys blew up around the same time dressing as normal English lads. People like authenticity. What genuinely held them back was the singer's divisive voice. I saw them live with my mates who also loved all the great British bands of the day, and they hated this guy's vocal tone. Plus their name was pure wank. Yuck.

Csar Sandov Well I actually KNOW the meaning behind the song. They lost a friend to cancer. And you see a lot of people running towards the end of the tunnel, representing death. And the man they're focussing on, is their friend. They're trying to keep him from running towards the light. But he does die at the end. It's very sad... Which makes the song even more powerful.

Isso é rock do bom: Sem apelação para o satanismo,batida da hora e letra com conteúdo! O bom e velho Rock um roll ainda sobrevive!!!

What a beautiful song perfect atmosphere and great guitar work. Shows the magnificence of the band and like a beautiful dragonfly its existence was fleeting but a gorgeous concept to behold. Let us appreciate there output if only for a short time. So many memorable songs crafted from the experience of living in a world of dying democracies and devolution. Save a life it is so precious and short as to make our light meaningful.

Two things: Whoever directed this video is a genius, and this song is so powerful and the meaning behind the song and clip (see the end) is really touching.

Raw talent munched by the industry. That boy has the voice of an angel. Such a shame.

Después de años buscando esta gran canción y esta otra Take the long road and walk it ya podré morir en paz,que gran banda lástima que ya no esten mas juntos, cuándo Mtv valía la pena.

Like 8 years ago or something like that I bought tickets for their show in Argentina. Two weeks before the concert they announce they were gonna to split the band and give a last concert in Japan. It was going to be my first concert ever. It still hurts :(
