So, I've watched the end of the video now, and listened to Liz's rant of the day. I fricking love you!!! Thank you! I want clear and accurate information, including the negatives, so that I can make an informed decision. Then the outcome of that decision lies squarely on me. I'm an adult. I will be accountable for my decisions and I will take responsibility for them. Am I currently growing out a damaged toenail from incorrect efiling? Yes, which is why I haven't used the efile since and is also why I'm watching this video now. I've watched lots of others, but I wanted to learn the differences between the bits. I shall now practice on myself, and eggshells (viewer suggestion below) before I unleash my skills on anyone else. A million times, thank you. Xxx

Why did this comment make me wanna cry!!! I love love LOVE finding info that empowers me to try techniques that I’m scared of due to my lack of knowledge. And I hate not knowing where to start when trying to educate myself ! Nothing better than having an a-ha moment and realising you truly understand something. Takes away the guess work and stops the venture from feeling so overwhelming!! I also love being able to use past mistakes to guide new practice ! I already use the skinny cylinder bit to remove dead tissue from the nail plate but have been too scared to delve right into the world of Russian manicures (despite really really wanting to). I’ve now got a much better understanding, have ordered my bits and am so so excited to get practicing! Good luck to you Carol, I know just from your comment that you will do great once you get the hang of it!

I have done the same. I am currently growing out damaged nails from over filing. Talk about a lesson learned, but would've loved to know what bits are for what before I started playing with them, the proper speeds, etc. Now I know and can practice better with the newly found knowledge! I'm so glad I found her channel!

I've done much damage to myself with efiling xD But that doesn't mean I'm just gonna stop learning, right? Currently I'm far away from even trying things on other people, so I'm my only victim and I say it's worth it. And I need all the information I can get, because I really like this technique (I was able to do the most perfect nails on myself EVER), but I'm struggling and not doing it right. Love the rant and agree wholeheartedly ^^ ♥

this tutorial changed my life, seriously. I've ALWAYS had overgrown cuticles, which turned into hangnails and a hack job after taking a nipper to them. after watching this, I carefully took my drill (I'm a glass engraver) and cleaned them out. I'm not exaggerating when I say that my cuticles have NEVER looked better! now I'm going on Day 3 (which is a long time for me) of "so fresh and so clean" cuticles and I'm absolutely amazed! THANK YOU x 1000 for so freely sharing your knowledge!

I think I just found the answer to my question! My eponychium grow really long, up to a 1/16th of an inch if I let it, and I always push them back and cut them off then end up with hangnails all over the place. I will soon be a licensed LMT and I cannot have damaged skin on my hands!! I don't care what this costs, I'm buying one pronto!! Thank you and thanks to Angie as well for her comment... sounded like we have the same issue :)

Good practice for pressure control on the natural nail is using eggs and making sure you don't crack them before you practice on anyone. Edit: Hardboil the egg first to avoid a mess!

Thank you so much for all this e file education. I’m from Michigan, and we don’t get this kind of education here. I have been using an e file for several years to remove gel polish. I felt like I had to learn to preserve my wrists, and fingers. I’ve been shy to try any other bits. I have not used other specialty bits because I have not felt educated. When I take pictures of my work the cuticle area never looks perfect like photographs in nail magazine, or instagram. I have realized this is because theirs are e filed. I’m going to buy the bits and learn. I’m 57 yrs old, and I watch a lot of u tube nail tutorials. I learn, and try a lot of things that I would have never known about. I really appreciate the time , and effort that you, and Suzi put into your videos. You both make me a better nail tech. Thank you very much. Sue., Classic Hair Design.

Excellent tutorial! You are right. In Brazil, we remove the cuticle every week before gel, and we still do this with regular nail polish. I have never had any problem with it. Here in Canada, I started to do my nails because I didn't enjoy the way they did it. You are great at teaching us how to do it well. Thank you so much. ❤

I want to thank you for teaching us how to do nails and sanitize properly. Because of your video's I now have the knowledge of what the salons in my area should be doing. I was going to the best-rated salon in my small town. I always thought they were clean and doing everything properly. They even have the autoclave there in the front of the salon where you can see it. But I have since figured out it is a prop more than anything. I have been paying very close attention and noticed that the exact same basket with the same tools was sitting in the autoclave week after week and never moving. The door on it stays cracked open where you can see what is inside and it sits within 5 feet of one of the busiest stations in the salon. It is possible that it's an old one that they just leave spare pieces in and they have another one in the back. But I also began to notice that the sanding bands being used were not always clean, the other bits they would pull out of a bit hold or loose inside their drawer. The hand files and buffers were used as well. Nippers and other tools were being pulled in and out of their drawer or cabinet. Nothing was clean and unused unless you were the 1st customer of the day and then I am still not so sure it was all clean. I did find one salon that does new and clean tools for pedicures, but not for fingernails. I was both thankful and horrified at the same time. The closest salon that I have found that uses clean bits, tools and new files on each client is about 1 1/2 hours from my home. And I live in a more rural area so that is about 80+ miles. I also have very thin nail beds that are very easy to damage and I am extremely sensitive to the vibration from an e-file. So out of necessity, I have had to start doing my own nails. And it is the best decision I have ever made. My natural nails are no longer damaged, even though I still wear acrylics, polygel, builder gel, etc. I also don't have issues with vibration since apparently, my e-file is of higher quality than any salon I have ever been to. I say thank you for educating us. And as a bonus, I have found I am pretty good at nail art so my nails look the best they have ever looked. Thank you again!

You have no idea how helpful this video was. I have such a problem with cuticles that were seriously ruining my life. No matter how careful I was the paint on the cuticles looked just terrible. I love the lady who does my nails. She is very sweet and kind but unfortunately language is difficult for us. I have suppressed immunity and get infections at the drop of a hat in spite of how careful I am. Now, with the virus I am totally on my own to figure this out for the foreseeable future. I love how you don't dumb this down, it shows respect for your audience. People do better when they know why they are doing or not doing something. You are amazing. Of course, in time, I will go back to the salon, but this foundational knowledge will make me a better client.

Recently started doing dip on myself and purchased an efile with the intention of using it to remove the top coat before soaking off. My first experience was uneducated and scary and I put it away, then decided to rip the dip off and destroyed my nails. Back to the e-file, this time with education. I watched your video prior to trying the e-file for cuticle prep for the first time tonight and I'm absolutely OBSESSED! I actually irritated my hands LESS using the e-file than cuticle nippers. No blood irritation or redness and my nails look great. Thank you for the informative, down to earth, and not-too-much-filler video. Agree what you said about accountability 💯. Thank you!!

How refreshing to hear a young person so courageously stand up for the principle of accountability. Bravo! I've been a cosmetologist for 30 years. Thank goodness for e-filing!! I do nails on women of all ages and when you consider the sensitivity of those with arthritis and the delicate skin of my 90 plus year olds, an e- file is the only way to take care of anyone's cuticle needs. -Don't need to clamp down on their tender joints in order to use a standard sanding file, and on skin that's as delicate as flower petals there is nothing better than an e-file with a polishing bit. It's all you need in that tiny, specific area. In my experience an e-file is not only more comfortable for everyone it is safer. Let me say that again,..e-filing is safer for cuticle and pedicure work!! These videos are great education! Nail techs be brave and try this technique, and never slice a cuticle open again with a ginormous hand file that is covered in sand and will never be as controlled as an e-file bit! Right!?

Your videos are awesome I have learned so much from them. A lot of things that I didn't understand before have now been made clear. So thank you Liz for all your hard work, you are very professional, you speak clearly and obviously have a great deal of Knowledge. I have come across some people unwilling to share things that would clear up confusion or make things go faster even when you are paying them to do so. Again thank you for your willingness to share you expertise, I applaud you for your unselfish attitude. I'm a fan

This helped out so much because there are so many cuticle bits out there. I also have cuticles just like YOU DO. I'm soooo glad you are going to do a full applications form start to finish and how to use ALL the RIGHT BITS. I feel this information is so needed in this industry, we need to keep our clients and ourselves SAFE. I have seen so many videos where bits are not being used properly. TFS

I wish I could like this video more than once. So good. I am not a nail tech but I've been thinking about doing my own nails at home. I thought it would be much more efficient to use an efile but I've been extremely paranoid that I would damage my nails. I've learned so much from your videos I feel confident that I could get started using an efile (with caution. Don't worry, I will take your advice and go slow! No teethy bits on natural nail!) I whole-heartedly agree that people have forgotten about accountability! So many tools are dangerous if used in the wrong hands. I was thinking "cars" before you said it! Also, your nails are exquisite! They look like fancy bakery confections! I appreciate your videos. They are so informative! Thank you for putting yourself out there 🤗

Girl I have been trying my best to learn how to do my own nails properly since Covid and this video quite literally saved my nail beds. When I first started, I watched a ton of videos on how to do dip nails and when I got my kit I just went right in, messed up, and started over. And over. And over. My nail beds got so paper thin snd it hurt to even do a light buff, yet I still had lifting. This saved me! I had no idea how to use all the diamond bits I have and you just made it so simple. Thanks for posting these super informative videos!!!!

I got a table stand lighted magnifying glass for doing my nail powder. I was gifted a Morpilot nail drill. None of the bits you used were in the drill bit kit. I have now ordered the correct cuticle bits and hoping to do a better job. I am pretty good with my application, but now with your instruction I can do a better job on my cuticles! Thank you for all the information!

Oh yes! Information, educational, and personal responsibility: I agree 100% with EVERYTHING you’ve said. Your “rant” was actually good old fashioned common sense IMHO. By giving us diy-at-home-want-to-get-it-right non professionals the correct professional information we need so that we don’t damage our nails and skin. Thank you SO much, you’re a fantastic communicator.

Great Vid. I have been trained in efile manicure and removal for years. However, backed away from the manicure protocol until recently. I think some people have to learn in stages and get comfortable with things. I think I am one of those. Been doing removal of product for ages. Now am ready to incorporate efile manicure. This was a great refresher for me. Thank you :-)

The last part of the video...that's was soooo impressive Liz. I want to send you loads of hugs for telling the facts about our liability. And thanks for the appreciation the power of information. Unfortunately not every education could give us every single perspective of the application. And sometimes especially for the experienced techs, our educations become soo outdated with the new technologies, new products and new techniques. We all need update ourselves and our knowledge. Thanks for the great words 💯❤💯❤💯❤

People are going to try things, if you can guide them on how to be safe while doing what they're doing? You're enriching this space. So thank you for being here!

OK so I am a total amateur, I am currently trying to get the hang of gel nails at home (on myself of course), and i could not FOR THE WORLD get my nails buffed and cuticles removed as well as i needed! so i had my hubby buy me an e-file for Christmas. GAME CHANGER! SO AWESOME! i used common sense with it, not pushing too hard etc etc.... i guess i have to mention that i'm from Europe, and had no idea e-files were so scary for people in the US? anyway, your tutorials are the best, and those nails in this video!! LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!
