I am 60 years old now and I went vegan this time last year....better late than never! Also about this time 7 years ago, I had open heart surgery due to a chronic lifestyle and I was close to death. I was obese, had smoked 80 cigarettes a day, had drank heavy in my earlier years, I never exercised in my life and I was a chronic junk food eater. That has all changed since the surgery. It took time, but I worked my way up to doing kettlebells 2- 3 days a week, I walk a lot, I jog 2-3 days a week and I no longer drink, smoke or eat junk food and i'm no longer obese. I swopped over to vegan during Covid as I was nearly there anyway on a meditereanean diet for the last 7 years. The most important thing for me about food no matter what diet you are on is the elimination of processed junk food which can even work its way into a vegan diet if you let it. This weekend coming I am running on a relay team in our local city marathon which will have about 10,000 runners. We are doing it for fun and not for time as I'm a bit of a slow runner. But its just a miracle I can do it. One time I couldn't walk for 500 yards without stopping to catch my breath......and a good diet made it all possible. You look in excellent shape and thanks for sharing your receips and story. What impressed me the most that you took the time to answer all those who posted comments. That is even more amazing than the content in the video itself.....shows that you care about people. 🙏👍💪

WOW, Patrick! Your story is amazing! I started to get emotional reading it. I AM REALLY PROUD OF YOU. I often talk to my kids about the comments/stories i read here. As young as they are its tough to fathom why Dad does what he does. I know they will get it at some point but these stories help right now with temporary perspective. And i cant wait to tell them yours! Thank you so much for touching me. Stay strong, stay inspirational and crush that marathon!🙌🏾🙏🏾❤️
@patrickokeeffe47872 жыл бұрын
@@thenarddogcooks Thank you, Andrew....I will try to crush it!! I have already done my segment of the marathon course twice in training, so I should nail it. But if I don't, thats ok too. It would a nice personal accomplishment, but at the end of the day that's all it is. The real accomplishment started 7 years ago when through the grace of God, I was able to turn my life around for my own family. If I have one take home message for your kids from my experience, it would be that we are all on a journey through life and our body is the vehicle that carry us through that journey. So treat it with respect unlike I did and give it the proper fuel and maintenance and you will travel longer and lighter through life. Thanks and peace to you and your family.

Just wanted to share some Love and Respect to you Patrick. I spent years, while raising the next gen., helping a couple of family members who had similar back stories. They have now passed and I can tell you the experience of the last 7 years of their life made a massive impression on the rest of the family. They could never manage to change after that open-heart surgery. What I can say, even though they got 6/12 years past the 6 months the dr.s gave them. . .bc they didnt change their diet and habits, those 7 years were not pleasant ones. That you have overcome so many cocurrent challenges is inspiring. Enjoy your health and live, and know that their are many people who could benifit from your experience. Again, Love and Respect to you.

the fact that your wife couldn’t continue with a vegan diet while pregnant goes to show biologically humans need meat. Without the baby receiving folic acid it’s predisposed to multiple neural tube defect diseases “anencephaly” etc. Everything in moderation, you can be a meat eater and also eat very healthy. Americans are just extremists in everything they do.

You are doing a great job for the society❤️ I was a hard core non vegetarian till I visited a farm and witnessed the horror of the dairy industry. The cow is inseminated painfully every 6 months so that calf is born. The calves are taken away immediately without a single drop of milk. The male calves are transported to the slaughterhouse to be killed on the very day. This process continues for some years till the cow is completely exhausted and later sold for meat. That’s the milk we consume. I literally had sleepless nights after watching the cows, their udders become so big they can’t even move. And they run to save their babies from going to the slaughterhouse. Thank you for these recepies so that people can choose compassion in their plate instead of pain.

The first plating option of the walnut taco meat dish looked incredible and the tip of putting the avocado in the fridge for the contrast sounds amazing!! I will try this recipe soon

I just found you and I love everything about this... the video editing, the commentary and especially the food! I was vegan for 3 years and am moving back in that direction again... looking forward to binge watching your channel! Also, your use of garlic has me drooling over here... most use 1 or 2 cloves... nah, I need EPIC amounts of garlic so thank you for that LOL

I just made the broccoli with chickpea meal and wow! This is insanely delicious! I had to sub the sesame oil for extra virgin olive oil since that’s what I had, but either way. Sooo good!

I remember being a kid and trying to eat the meat quickly at the start of the meal to get "rid" of it so that I could really enjoy the parts that I loved the most - bread, rice, veggies, etc. Then I realized when I got older there was a lifestyle where I didn't even have to tolerate the disgusting fatty gristle-laiden meat and only enjoy the good stuff!!

So my question to vegans is, what do you eat once we find out plants have feelings? Because we have already discovered that absolutely 100% everything in this life is intelligent.
@seancunningham8571 Жыл бұрын
If we prove that plants are sentient and have feelings we can cross that bridge when we get to it. With our current understanding we know the animals we eat are sentient and can feel pain, the plants do not.

What if you turn vegan because it can be healthier and not because of the animal things.

Love seeing you chopping garlic and the reality of it being a very messy part of cooking! However, you keep it real and that makes me feel better! I was cutting garlic today, a messy job, yet so worth it! Better than jar garlic, which to me loses so much real garlic flavor! Keep up the Vegan meals please! How do I get my family to become ‘believers?’
