Dope video. I have been doing more and more fishing down in matlacha. Just learned hot to cast net bait so ive been mostly using that. Trying to expand my artificial game though so this series is perfect. Definitely dropping a sub. Really want to land my first ever tarpon this summer. 🤞🏼

Love it. I've caught a few that size in Matlacha from shore. But I've lost more than I've caught because from shore there really hard to keep out of the pilings / structure. Do you use 30lb. Leaders? Or have you found they'll hit 40lb. In that stained water?

I usually use 30lb leader for most types of fishing I do inshore. If I’m fishing docks I might bump it to 40. Jacks don’t care about the leader, they have their eyes on the prize 🐟

If I’m looking for them I’m looking for moving water, that’s pretty much it. They could be anywhere.

7’ 6” med heavy rod, 4000 size reel. 30lb braid 40lb leader

Medium heavy. 7’ 6” would be my go to. Something rated for 20-30lb line.

Uni to uni. Swivel if using certain lures

Question - Would Tarpon hit that 9 inch popper? Also, I live in St Augustine and I kill the jacks on the Mirro-lure (dark top and green top). Enjoy these times with your dad young fella. I'm 56, I lost my dad when I was 18 but we fished a lifetime together. You will look back one day and smile I promise. I only wish we had GO PROS back then LOL!

I hear you. He actually just flew in for the weekend and all we did was fish. Good times! I wouldn’t waste your time fishing for tarpon with that, chances are they won’t mess with it. They have big eyes and know what they want. Present smaller swim baits to them for best luck on artificial.

30lb braid is what I use for jack fishing. 4’ 30lb mono leader at the end.

I'm all about Jack fishing they fight like no other fish why do we need eat everything we catch the sport of fishing ain't what it was 20 years ago so it only becomes more difficult when the population of fish drops every year dramatically
