Candle Making Lessons: How To Turn A Milk Carton Into A Candle Mold
Candle making using molds is fun and creative. You can use lots of different things for molds, even a milk carton. We’ll show you how to turn a milk carton into a candle mold.
Cut the top of the milk carton away. Make a hole in the bottom of the milk carton with an awl. Feed the wicking through the hole at bottom of mold leaving about one inch of wick. Coil the end of the wick. Roll the mold sealer into a ball and press it over the coiled wick to seal the bottom of the mold. Tie other end of the wick to a skewer and prop it across the top of the milk carton mold. Trim off excess wicking.
It is important that the wick is centered from top to bottom so you can safely burn your candle. It is also important to choose the right size wick for your candle. To determine the size of the wick for your candle, measure the diameter of your mold. Then match that diameter with the wick packaging. The size of a wick refers to the diameter of the wick itself and how wide it will burn. It is important to choose a wick that will not burn too wide for the candle.

Hi can you please tell me where to buy translucent crystals for my sea glass candle

Sorry for the delay, John. We have been trying to source the Translucent Crystals. The ones we used were from Yaley Candle Company. They sold their business to Vine Wick Candle Company vinewickcandle.com/ but we can't find the crystals on their website. Perhaps you can call them and see if they still have the crystals available. You can make the candle without the additive, but if you use a strong color wax it might not be as translucent as ours. Hope that helps! Jennifer & Kitty

We used to make these a lot of kids. But I don't ever remember poking the hole in the bottom of the carton We just hung the wick from the pencil and let it harden. But maybe my memory is failing me. haha

Hi Annie, We recommend connecting the bottom of the wick to the bottom of the container. That way as the candle melts the wick won't slide around and possible get too close to the side of the candle. That would be dangerous. Cheers, J&K

I hope hot wax doesn’t melt the carton??

The hot wax cools instantly as it hits the ice in the carton. Also, the carton is cardboard and doesn't melt. Hope that helps. Jennifer & Kitty

what do you do if you don't have the wax sealer?

+Takeisha Smith If you don't have mold sealer, you can try sticky putty. We have had success with the yellow or blue putty that you use to hang posters in a dorm room. Hope that helps!

You could use clay, play dough, or a dab from a hot glue gun.
