They don't make them like Patrick Viera and Roy Keane anymore. You may still have talent and technical abilities in today's players but the sheer will to compete, personality and character will always make the late '90s and early 2000s era some of the best football has ever seen.

The thing that gets lost about Keane v Vieira is how brilliant they were from a technical standpoint. People romanticise about the physical stuff a lot but the two of them were absolutely magnificent footballers, with virtually no weaknesses, both capable of dictating a full football match.

It all comes down to the way the football bodies want the game to be refereed. People can blame players being soft all they want, but they're that way because the changes in the way the game is officiated forced them to become less physical in general if they want to stay on the pitch, so naturally managers are going to start coaching them to play that way and eventually it seeps through the whole game, players growing up being less combative and physical on the pitch because you're not allowed to be that way.
