Who are regular people? What is a normal job? Totally agree with you. A large amount of people don’t even have or know a REGULAR friend. 😢 And regular job? Good heartened people leave their jobs because of hate! I used to work in the OR level one trauma center. 25 years. A lot of gun shot patients. On scene…#1. Police (make everyone safe). #2. Administer first aid/ life support.#3. Figure out the “crime” scene. 🤷🏼‍♀️

At the end of the day we all good hearted people go home and question if we could’ve done better. When a trauma patient came to the OR…I prayed thank God. And prayed for the first responders and to help refocus their minds to health happiness and love and joy. the emotional impact will forever be in their thoughts and minds. Police are first. Medics seconds. (Also everyday citizens). The Er nurses and trauma docs….The point is…The first one (and second). Police are the first to witness and start first aid until medics get there. They see the worst!! They see those that don’t make it to the hospital. And then have to tell the family.

However I didn't know at the time of writing that comment that most ambulance drivers today are also FULLY trained EMTs/paramedics. I mean I know it's not like they'd ONLY be good at driving and cant assist in any other way... I'm sure they can and do. But in my head I assumed they go out in teams, where one of them is the primary driver. And yes my comment WAS specifically about the driver believe it or not, who not only has to drive to the scene, help save a life, but then also speed them to the hospital. Of course all first responders are vital and important, but that's just where my head went when I wrote that, because every time I'm out and I see an ambulance speeding by, for whatever reason, I think mostly about the stress of the one driving in unpredictable traffic. Yes, same goes for cops and firefighters I know. just seems that much more stressful when you have to first speed to the call then, sometimes, also speed them to the hospital. I hope that clarifies my thought process. No slap in the face intended

Exactly 💯.. I Wanted to be a cop growing up so bad unfortunately my dad was murdered when I was 13 an I made some bad choices with drugs an stuff from the age of 16 to 25. But in all those years of stealing cars an running drugs I met so many cool cops an had so many cut me a break an try to help me I lost count. Yea I met some that were horrible an tried to hang me up but the vast majority were good people an I can remember one telling me the same thing. Hey I won today but you probably won alot of times an I just laughed an it's always stuck with me..

As a police cadet, my favorite part of it is being able to compliment and joke with the suspects where the officer isn't able to, and that usually helps them be more friendly and cooperative with officers and also just seem to have a better interaction and make them have more positive opinions of the police

I'm an Officer in Houston, TX. 11 years in. Listening to this on duty lol. I can relate to this guy so much with his experiences. Loved this episode. 1. Giving CPR to a dead child. A 12 year old hanged himself with a karate belt in his closet. It was very obvious he was gone, but the parents were giving the child CPR. Knowing it wasn't going to help, I took over for the parents for about 5 minutes until EMS arrived. 2. Making death notification to a father of son who died in car crash. The father went nuts and began running around on the front lawn screaming. I just had to let him get it all out of his system before I could give him the specific details. His son was t-boned by someone who ran a red light as he was on his way to the University of Houston for class. The son had just left the house about 30 minutes before the crash. I remember the dad kept saying "I can still smell his cologne" and was pointing at the sink saying "that's his cereal bowl he was just eating out of". 3. Using seniority for "shitty" situations. A female crackhead walked into a U-Haul and asked the employee for a pack of condoms and cigarettes. The employee said "This isn't a corner store, you're at a U-Haul rental store." The female gets upset and pulls her pants down and shits all over the floor, then picks up shit and began throwing it all over the store. I made a rookie go in the store and take photos for my report. Another time, I responded to a suicide, where the man shot himself in the head as he had a pillow covering his face. There was a female rookie officer who had to pull the pillow off the guy, and as she did, part of his skull was sticking to the pillow and fell off of it and landed on her uniform. She freaked out and had to go home to change immediately. Better her than me lol. 4. Experiences with the coroner. I've been to some gruesome fatalities, suicides and homicides. The coroners are a different breed. They'll just pick up body parts, skull caps, bones, etc and carry on a conversation at the same time like nothing. 5. Having to render aid, but not being able to help. A guy was stabbed by his twin brother on Easter day. He was stabbed between 15-20 times and was leaking blood everywhere. He kept begging me for help, but I couldn't plug every hole due to the stab wounds being spread out from his torso to his back to down on his thighs. I knew he wasn't going to make it, but I kept trying. I saw him take his last breath before EMS arrived. Very surreal knowing you were the last person someone saw before they died. 6. Dealt with co-worker suicide. An officer committed suicide one morning and just crushed us when we found out. We all failed to see the signs. A crazy thing is he survived a bank robbery shooting about 10 years before that. He was shot in the arm with an AK-47 and a bullet grazed his head as he was chasing them. He survived that, but he ended up dying by his own hand. RIP Charlie.

Theo interviewed a truck driver once, pretty good stories. My grandfather was a world war veteran and lived to be 90 years old. He was very interesting with a lot of knowledge and experience. You don’t have to be famous or from a big town to be interesting.

My son died in his sleep last year and the police officers that came to our house, in advance of the coroner, were extraordinarily kind and gentle with us. I was so thankful for that and for how they just listened to me rambling about his childhood and personality quirks and so on. I don't know quite why I was compulsively talking while sobbing, but hey...that's what happened and they were wonderful about it. It would have been understandable if they thought maybe I'd lost my mind for a few minutes there, but they didn't let me see that. Law enforcement sees the hardest and most heartbreaking things in human existence. I can only want the best for them for what they do for us.

@1:04:00 A friend of mine's son is a police officer. He responded to a call of a naked man, covered in blood, swinging a machete at pedestrians. He responded, tried to calm the guy down. Told him to put his weapon down, said you're not in trouble, we're going to get you help, everything's gonna be ok. The guy ended up charging at the officer. The officer was backed up against a fence with no way to retreat. He shot the guy with the machete. The guy died. The media is treating the cop like a murderer, calling him racist, want him fired etc. this poor cop was out on leave immediately, he's all messed up from the incident and he's not allowed to talk about it because it's "under investigation". Terrible. He should be treated like a hero, not a criminal.

Great comment, ma'am. In regards to your comments on the media, I agree wholeheartedly. The demonization of law enforcement, and disproportionate reporting of "bad" police interactions (particularly white officers mistreating black people) is a huge issue. While bad officers certainly exist (and unfortunately there are more than I'd like there to be), racial profiling can & does happen, and it's imperative for journalists to report and expose these things - the bias & disparity in the media' coverage misrepresents law enforcement as a whole and distorts the public's perception. Its abundantly clear that the media (under direction of God knows who) cherry picks the stories they report - and romanticizes certain ones - to intentionally skew public opinion in a certain direction. But there's a much larger picture here, which ultimately boils down to provoking the specific kinds of fear & anger that facilitate an easier seizure of freedoms from the populace, that I won't get into right now. In regards to good officers like the man in this podcast. They certainly exist - I've run into a few in my 30 years on earth - but unfortunately, bad ones exist as well. And more unfortunate is that, in my experience with police (suburbs of Chicago in my teens police encounters were frequent), I've met more "bad" ones than good. By "bad" I mean, primarily: - disrespectful without provocation (treating you like a criminal or as if you're hiding something) - immature/unprofessional behavior and comments (laughing, antagonizing, bragging about a party they're going to, stealing during welfare checks, etc) - aggressive and hostile without provocation (had a large officer stop my friends and I in a 7-11 parking lot and curse us out, while we stood silent and confused, before telling me he'd get a "warrant for my arrest" if I was recording him on my phone... after which he confiscated it and searched for recordings of himself) - clearly taking pleasure in the power dynamic of the interactions, and the fear it instills in teens So I've seen both sides of it; mostly the bad side of law enforcement. And I absolutely think there needs to be stricter standards in vetting prospective officers, as it's an incredibly powerful position with shockingly simple means of getting in. Nonetheless, the media's coverage of law enforcement, particularly during the latter portion of Trump's presidency, was nothing short of an outrage the likes of which I've never heard of in this country's history. Intentionally provoked violent & destructive riots in every major city, and calls for eradication of the police nationwide. That is NOT to be forgotten, by myself, and millions of other young men.

What a significant moment of the Pod. It’s relatable, anyone who loses a family member experiences a life changing moment getting that news. I had to tell a woman and her kids in Iraq that her husband was just shot up by some militia guys. She started screaming at me and fell to the ground grabbing my clothes. These two could barely scratch the surface of what they chose as the subject matter. They both showed a lack of understanding of what the United States of America is. They don't understand that government has different meanings. To say you hate government is not the same as saying something about the different forms of government. So many talk of our democracy and are really brainwashed into believing the form of government we have is a democracy, it is not and you do not want that either. Democracy runs on a "majority rules" which always devolves into dictatorships. The premise overlooks the fact the majority of populations are not smarter and those with natural and gained intelligence are a minority. Democracy does not allow the true smarter citizen a voice. "Theo's commentary" was merely him asking or stating superficial questions or displaying his lack of depth of thought. If I gave a lift in my car to a prostitute I am a sex trafficker according to the law. At one point he reveals that he believes drugs cause homosexuality! That alone should make it clear that "podcasts" are merely a self-made stage in one's own basement upon which they perform their personal act for friends. The subject of serial murderers was brought up and dropped quickly because neither of them actually know anything about serial killers! The retired cop should have known. I will point out that we have people among us who can be and are diagnosed as "sociopath" yet still very few of us have a clue as to what it is. Some believe sociopaths are serial killers which is not true. We all have known a sociopath or two or even married one or work for one. They are the ones who do not care about others or lie all the time but they are not all serial killers BUT all serial killers are sociopaths. They feel no remorse. The retired cop revealed his youth had a criminal element but I doubt he reformed. He realized that police work pays real well and he could do to others what he wanted and since others were targets for arrest the public would not care. And his youth record was sealed. Post traumatic stress Theo and the cop referred to as "mentally ill" shows the cop knows normal people should not and are not police officers working the streets. Stress takes a toll on normal people. Theo is clueless still on that topic. The cop said what cops rarely mention and that is they retire after 20 or 25 years with pay and benefits then can go on to a new career without losing their cop pay. Neither understands the Constitution so in other words they are uneducated. Criminals usually start life being abused which would've got them your sympathy and when they are adults their behaviors become criminal. They are not helped but put in cages. Drug use is to ease the symptoms of a childhood of no love and isolation. Normal children do not drink, smoke or indulge in drug abuse. Sober adults usually don't start smoking etc when they are 21. Children obtain their first drugs from their family not a stranger on a "street corner". Meth doesn't make people stupid, stupid begins on its own. Methamphetamine is also known as Adderall which is given to children by doctors for ADHD, 20 million worldwide is a combination of amphetamine and dextroamphetamine. Doctors do not call patients "tweakers". My dentist says meth does not rot teeth but sugar in soda pop and not brushing does contribute to quicker tooth decay. I will stop by saying that we do not know that the guy was really even a cop but he said he was and cops never lie right? I could put on a white lab coat and hang a stethoscope around my neck, carry a clipboard and you would know I was a doctor if I said I was...

I was sleeping and I heard you talking and it brought back so many memories. I was one of the first women paramedics inner city kansas city missouri. We Worked with the fire department and it was an experience. This little white girl that lived behind white picket fences grew up really fast and I loved it! It was so dangerous that the police officer gave me permission and taught me how to use a few weapons that were not a gun. I've seen more in real life than i've ever seen on t v. I won't start my wars stories. Sometimes I would try after twenty four hour shifts. You think I hardened but I haven't. This retired policeman says so many things I, as a retired police officer with over 30 years service, can relate to. Having said that, I was an officer in the UK and in all those years I never saw a gun, (and we didn’t carry one, somewhere in the county two officers in a response car would have guns and that was a relatively recent thing) never expected to see one and never felt my life was threatened whilst at work. When I stopped a car, searched a man, searched a house I knew I’d never find a gun, it was not something I ever thought about. I can’t imagine going to work knowing you could die! I retired 10 years ago and although things will have changed I know police still in the job and the chances of seeing a gun outside maybe three big cities is not expected and even in those cities is rare.

I’m a cop. I just want to provide some insight. First, I agree with you on a podcast the only major problem is that they would have to be retired police officers. Current police officers will get fired for policy violations if they went on a podcast and spoke. Even if they said something very minor the repercussions are huge. I would love to give some insight into the police world if I could.

@@JTease Wow, that’s incredibly sad in a way. I guess that’s why it’s so easy for the media and the world to write their own narratives when it comes to cops because you’re almost silenced and left voiceless by not being able to speak out on things without facing serious repercussions and losing your job. I feel like that makes it all the more important for anyone who was in the force and is currently retired to try and get out there and speak for their brothers and comrades who aren’t able to right now. Hopefully this is the first of many well received podcasts and the narrative starts to change and everyone gets to have a voice. There’s no proper way to thank you for your service and all you and your fellow cops do to keep us civilians in the dark about just how f**ked up this world really is. I hope you’re able to find some relief in talking to/leaning on each other.

As an Army Vet. And a guy who LOVES people and this Country. Theo is actually a great guy! And this OFFICER is excellent about the Armed school guards etc. They are both smart!
