I am Italian. This song changed my life. I was a multi-intrumental, but due to a terrible accident, I've lost the use of my right hand. I had a lot of surgeries and a deep depression. When I heard this song it was 8 years after the accident. I identified myself with the dancer and took energy from this song and those amazing images to start living again, and bringing back composition in my life with electronic music, due to my handicap. Maybe you don't know, but Marlena represents "Freedom" for Damiano and for Maneskin. Suffering takes freedom away from you. Great content, thanks for sharing. One thing I have realised, growing up listening to Italian music (I am not Italian, but I grew up speaking it, and being geographically close, was exposed to Italian culture through their TV channels) is that generally speaking the poetry and meaning of song lyrics is just as important as the music. The vast majority of Italian lyrics are at (in my opinion) a higher rate and standard than anglosphere music. Both have their poetic lyrics and dumb lyrics, but there seems to be a higher percentage of the poetic in Italian music.

German lyrics can be very poetic when they are dark, but we struggle to say "nice" things without sounding trivial. In contrast, Italian sounds most of the time very melodic even if trivial words are used. Also, I feel Italian words can be very short which makes rhyming easier, German words are very bulky and long.

The genesis of "Torna a Casa" has a singular history: it was chosen as a single which person then announces the release of the album "Il Ballo della Vita", but the presentation was never made in a studio or in front of journalists. Måneskin chose to go home, performing on the street as at the beginning of their career, giving fans the opportunity to listen to the song for the first time exclusively live, without using digital platforms, initially, to sponsor the new single. Through a game of coordinates published on their social networks, with the sole purpose of directing their fans to secret places, they with their new single in two different cities: Piazza del Popolo, in Rome, and Piazza XXIV Maggio, in Milan. The video for “Torna A Casa” was then published on 01/10/2018 on KZbin, a gold mine with 122 million views and 5 platinum records. A Damian in ivory white opens the dance, accompanied by a veiled dancer, a slave to white prejudices and commanded by the puppeteer par excellence: society. Meanwhile, Vic, Thomas and Ethan wander around this silent and mystical villa in search of "their own place in the world", until the 4 reunite to perform the second refrain, accompanied by the urgent and necessary movements. of that Marlena who wants to live for herself, in her characteristic colors, blue and red, which will then dominate the cover of the album "Il Ballo Della Vita". «Marlena is the Venus of the group, the personification of our freedom, creativity, life. Torna a casa is a piece to listen to with closed eyes and an open mind. Open your mind to go home. " Quoting Alice and her Mad Hatter, the fear of disappearing in a deep dream is great, but the courage to start over and to believe in oneself, despite the mistakes and mistakes made, is stronger, beyond everything. You have benefited from one of the effects that Italian language produces: leaving out richness of vocabulary, which is the joy for songwriters, the fact that all words in this language end with vowels allows those who sing to load power and feeling up to last letter of each verse, no matter how long it stretches. There's no brake, defense or filter to the river of emotion that an inspired singer manages to convey to the listener with an open mind. If you then savor the song without understanding the text, those words flow from the ears and fall directly on the heart, hitting hard (then, calmly, when you have recovered, listen with good subtitles ... and you will receive a second impression no less strong). ... ... already listened to Coraline with subtitles ??? ;-)

Hey Rachel, yours is much more than a reaction, it's an interpretation, a powerful and beautiful one. I love how you capture the details and the nuances of the music and the video. There is something special about listening to (and understanding) music written in another language, feels like finding something beautiful that was hidden, out of sight, but then magically internalised. More importantly, thank you for being vulnerable and sharing your emotions, it's great modelling and, for many, will be soothingly relatable and validating.

Let me introduce Fabrizio de André who I believe may represent the father or rather the grandfather of these Maneskin songs. One above all " La canzone di Marinella". We Italians are often spoken of as "sole, pizza, ammore", but it is a small part of Italy. If you want to understand Italy you have to know the Italian songwriters who have nothing to envy to the best Bob Dylan or Leonard Cohen, with a look at the ancient Neapolitan song. Maneskin are good at modernizing their origins but being rock does not necessarily mean just making a mess!

COME BACK HOME I’m walking through my city and the wind is blowing hard I left everything behind, the sun’s on the horizon I see houses from afar, they closed the doors But luckily I’ve got her hand and her red cheeks She pulled me up from the ground covered with thorns With a thousand snake bites, motionless through the coils She didn’t listen to those bastards and their cursing With one look she convinced me to pack my bags and leave And this is a journey no one’s ever made before Alice, her wonders and the mad hatter We’ll walk along this road and I’ll never be tired Until time will bring white onto your hair Just a paper sheet and half a cigarette are left in my hand Let’s stay a little longer, we’re not in a hurry Because I’ve got a sentence written in my head, but I’ve never said it Because life without you can’t be perfect So, Marlena, come back home, because I feel it’s getting cold in here So, Marlena, come back home, because I don’t want to wait anymore So, Marlena, come back home, because I feel it’s getting cold in here So, Marlena, come back home, because I’m afraid I’ll disappear And the sky is slowly becoming transparent here The sun is illuminating the people’s weaknesses A salty tear wets my cheek, while she sweetly caresses my face with her hand With blood on my hands I’ll climb all the peaks I want to get where the human eye stops In order to learn to forgive all of my sins Because sometimes even angels are afraid of death Just a paper sheet and half a cigarette are left in my hand Let’s run away from those who are too thirsty for revenge From this mainland, because by now it feels tight Yesterday I was quiet because today I’ll be the storm So, Marlena, come back home, because I feel it’s getting cold in here So, Marlena, come back home, because I don’t want to wait anymore So, Marlena, come back home, because I feel it’s getting cold in here So, Marlena, come back home, because I’m afraid I’ll... Before you I was just a madman, let me tell you now: I wore a creased jacket and cuts on my wrists Today I feel blessed and can’t find anything else to add This city will look out when it sees us arrive I was in the balance between being the victim and being the judge It was a shiver that brings light to darkness And sets you free from these bright shiny chains And I’m in doubt, whether they were deaths or rebirths So, Marlena, come back home, because I feel it’s getting cold in here So, Marlena, come back home, because I don’t want to wait anymore So, Marlena, come back home, because I feel it’s getting cold in here So, Marlena, come back, because I don’t want to disappear anymore So, Marlena, come back home, because I feel it’s getting cold in here So, Marlena, come back home, because I’m afraid I’ll disappear.

I think this is one of my favourite songs of them, there's so much emotion in his voice that you almost don't need lyrics to understand it! Torna a Casa means "Come back Home" and he's referring to Marlena in "Quindi Marlena torna a casa". Marlena is not a person but the embodiement of their Muse, the one that gives them inspiration, like what happened with poets! So it's something like: So Marlena (my Muse, my source of inspiratione) come back home, because here I can feel it's cold (without you), come back home because I'm so scared to disappear (without his muse he cannot give birth to his art, so he will disappear). A rough explanation but I hope it was enough! :)

Måneskin explained who Marlena was during a concert held in late 2018. She is not a physical person, but the personification of the message they want to launch with their music. She’s an ideal of freedom, life and creativity. She’s nothing more than an imaginary figure that encompasses all four members of the group and even the fans and listeners themselves. No secret love of the frontman or other band members, then. Marlena is everyone and no one at the same time. This remains a fundamental concept for Måneskin and, more generally, for the existence of us all.

Damiano: a salty tear wets my cheek... This beautiful person: *tears up even though she's not understanding the lyrics* Ladies and gents, the power of music

How wonderful to see someone get so excited. All musicians "feel" in a technical way, analyzing riffs and passages and then lose the emotion that comes from your soul. Sometimes it doesn't take much, technique is not necessary but you need a wealth of life and experiences. Thanks girl, you are almost more touching than the song

Love your reaction. Much love from Italy. Its funny when they say " Questa cittá si affaccerá quando ci vedrá giungere", that it means "This city will overlook when it will see us coming". Now everyone look at them. Im so proud of them.

Your reaction is so genuine, so sweet and pure. Love it. Maneskin are really an emotional explosion. I'm a "old" Italian 45y old rock lover and I fall in love for them since first time I saw them in Xfactor Italy, 4 years ago. It's the first notable glam-rock group we have ever had in Italy. They are really incredible, so mature and so young in the same, so artistic, so music lovers. They are just AMAZING

Oh, i'm so Happy to see other people that "feel" their music. I mean: some songs, some sounds and voices take me away with An incredible power, you know Damiano's voice is one of the most unbeliveble thing in the world, from my point of viewe. This song make me cry every time i listen it, since 2018. These guys have been playing together since they were 13... and they always write lyrics and music by themselves. They are fantastic

When a song is like an arrow that manages to hit the soul of the listener, it can be said that it has achieved its main purpose. Thank you for sharing your emotions with us turned into little tears, you are beautiful.

I actually hope americans won't find them, because they will find a reason to "cancel" them.. For example false drug allegations. (sorry for my spelling, english is not my first language)

@@kasibamus THIS I do currently live in America (unfortunately), however I am russian, and when I saw this years eurovision. my god. the best possible scenario, i have to agree, would be for america to just keep living in their bubble of pretentious af mostly terrible music, and leave good people like them alone, but i mean when america finally finds them, they won't be appealing to older generations/more conservative people so they'll simply be ignored by everyone except for some exceptions of older generations and younger people who will hopefully not cancel them

There are actually reactions from the US (metal guys) who also feel the same, and can value the poetry. Hope that they spread the word...

Oh my god you’re so sweet, watching you cry made me emotional as well 💔 I’m glad that you’re appreciating this group and their incredible potential... And I agree, it’s such a shame that they’re not globally known yet. 😔 But I really hope that they’ll continue to grow and gain experiences, and that the visibility Eurovision gave them will allow them to shine more and more ✨💪🏻 They would really deserve it. Thank you for supporting them, hugs from Italy! 😘❤️🇮🇹

This is by far one of the most touching and moving of their songs. The video matches perfectly the fear, the abandon and the hopeful waiting for her...... 'coming home' as the text says. Thanks to you and to this channel I promptly subscribed to ...... for the analysis of all these signficative texts. One different from the other. Thanks and good luck for your life......
