I have a lot of compassion for Liam Neeson. TAKEN released right before his wife (Natasha Richardson) died in a tragic skiing accident in 2009. Liam did a lot of action movies since then (many of them involving family in some way), which I presume was a way to process his grief.

That line when Brian eventually agrees to sign the papers to let Kim go on her trip and tells Lenore, "Wouldn't it be easier if we talked about it first?" is a deeper line and I took it as Brian referring to their previous marriage, not the paper-signing situation, like, they should have talked about it instead of separating.

there's this idea that trafficking happens like this to random American tourists... they wouldn't need to, because they largely target impoverished youths who don't speak any English, who are vulnerable and hungry, and who very few people will do anything about because their laws aren't enforced as much, or don't have any. it's something that Americans generally tend to overlook because those people are from outside the u.s. and are put to work for next to nothing all over, including in the u.s, in grocery stores, salons, hotels, etc... it's horrible but I hope we keep those people in our minds too when we think about trafficking and injustices

Your point is well said, but many our 2024 votes for Trump took into account the over 200,000 illegal immigrant children that are still unaccounted for - 'sponsors' didn't have to show ID, would pick up 15 or 20 at a time, and under the Biden/Harris regime the ICE and DHS funding essentially barred any follow-up investigation.

Another brilliant reaction. Despite it having all the action movie clichés, I think what makes this movie (and the others in the franchise) so engaging and compelling is the emotional connection you demonstrated so well. It's horrid to think of, but trafficking rings just like this exist all over the world, and we'd all like to think we'd be able to save a loved one in the same way, should they be trafficked. That connection of rooting for family and friendship against depravity is something most of us (although, sadly not all of us) share.

your last line: perfectly demonstrated by the leader of the trafficking ring in the movie, who says he's a father but it's just business and nothing personal. some people are not outwardly depraved but can be just as evil if they rationalize it all in their heads. how can a father with a daughter view all of the young women he trafficks as business? it's hard to wrap our minds around this.

@@EmJeezyable + Amanda put his daughter in that situation in the 1st place, by flirting back with the guy at the airport, accepting a ride together on a cab with a stranger, letting him see where they were staying, & then talking him what floor, that they were alone, the cousins were away on vacation, accepting an invitation to a "party", etc. She then goes on to say, "I'm going to sleep with him" about somebody she just met, & knows nothing about, & tries to encourage Brian's daughter to give up her virginity there in Paris. So she's obviously very promiscuis, & has no scruples about one night stands with perfect strangers. Not a good friend. And movies often leave us to wonder about side characters & events, after the story has been told. I always just assumed Brian took care of the Amanda situation later, discreetly, once he was home, & had rest. But then again, if he'd called attention to her, while he was there looking for his daughter, it seriously could have jeopardized his chances at ever getting his daughter back. If his friends came in & took Amanda, whatever element of surprise he still has left, could have been wasted, & the Elites & traffickers running the operation, could have/would have changed plans, & times, & locations. And his daughter would be gone forever. What's more, each country has their own sovereignty laws. US agents can't just go into France or any other country, & expose, or shut down their crime, or interrupt that countries own law enforcement investigations. And if Brian's whole team interfered the way your suggesting, they'd be breaking international laws. As it was, Brian was doing that himself, but he was desperate, going rogue, & operating alone, so he didn't put anyone else at risk of being caught & arrested. Last but not least, she is a side character, not the main character, so the producers are not interested in focusing on a side story line about her. She serves as a cautionary tale about what what happens to people with loose morals & character. That's the point of her character in the movie. She was an instigator, dragging Brian's daughter to Paris, under false pretenses, & then having no discretion or discernment around strangers. Is it a shame, & tragic what happened to her? For sure. But it is a fictional movie. 🤷‍♀️

As many have commented. This still happens every day. Even after the movie came out so long ago. The abductions aside, I want to give a warning to anyone that flys in general. When you land at an airport. Any state in the US, Country oversees etc. Wait till you're outside the airport area if you have things already setup as far as ride etc. There are so many wifi/bluetooth hackers waiting in airport lobbies or next to it that connect to your phone as soon as you turn it on.

There was a movie like this that I think was inspired by Taken, I don't know what the name of it was. But at the end, he found his daughter and she died in the car shortly after her rescue before making it to the hospital. The man then proceeded to kill every man involved in the human trafficking before killing himself. Somehow that ending just resonated with me so much more than this one did. But what I really like about Taken is the good writing makes it realistic. You see how he struggles to stay awake, working only on adrenaline and the more he goes without sleep the more he slips up. When he does stunts, he gets winded, sprains his ankle. It doesn't try to sell it to the audience as if he's some kind of terminator. We as the audience find is plausible that he is capable of all this, not because we are told right off the bat that he has experience in the field, but because of how his mind works. His distant relationship with his daughter, telling us he's spent her whole life doing work like this. The writing is truly phenomenal. Not many action movies appeal to me, but this one did.

Old Man Bourne is how I saw Liam Neeson in Taken. Jeff Bridges was given the role of Bryan Mills but he turned it down, paving the way for Neeson to take the job which transformed him from being “the guy from Schindler’s List” to being among the most bonafide action stars of all time. At first it was going to be direct-to-video but the makers felt like it was better off being theatrically released.

I love Taken, seen it so many times, and love Liam Neeson as an actor. People Like Lenore, deserve everything that comes their way, I hate anyone who thinks they are above me, and treats me like a piece of $hit on their shoe, we all came into this world the same way, we will leave it the same way, and to think this happens all over the world for real, to this day.

There is another version of the scene where the guy is electrocuted. Instead of the electric being connected to the chair, a big nail is forced into each thigh, and the cables are attached there. Much better scene

Vince and Shoshana, great reaction! I agreed with everything Bryan did in the film. Liam Neeson is such a great actor. If you both want to see two great films! I recommend "In The Line of Fire" a great 1993 Suspense Thriller. It stars Clint Eastwood, John Malkovich and Rene Russo. It has a great plot, great writing and great acting! Finally, I recommend "We Are Marshall" a great 2006 biopic of the tragedy of the 1970 Thundering Herd Football Team and its boosters from Marshall University of Huntington, West Virginia. Matthew McConaughey plays Coach Jack Lengyl. A well done film and tribute.
