Not only was he a Firefighter, but he actually worked for an Engine Company in Manhattan. The day after the 9/11 attack he showed up at his old firehouse and worked 12 hours shifts for a week, digging people out of the rubble. He's also in recent years spoken about some of the PTSD he has from what he saw that week.... some truly terrible things.

fun fact Adam Sandler wrote and was set to release this movie in the mid 1990s, with Chris Farley in the Kevin James role. Farley's death in 1997 halted production plans, and the film was shelved for more than a decade.

Not getting 100% praise and ass kissing isn't "hate." There's valid criticisms of this film. The main one being he's literally playing the same character again--ultra rich successful nice guy with smoking hot wife that somehow has martial trouble. I like this movie. It's pretty funny, but I can accept that it's objectively a bad movie and that's okay. You liking something doesn't mean it's perfect.

@@IDiggPattyMayonnaise It ain't that it's a good or bad movie, it's just that these movies are disappearing more and more today. Studios either want a low budget film that will make bank or a big spectacle blowout. 1000s of families around the world sat down and watched this together, and tbh that's always more important. You can go down the critic route but pretty soon you find that every movie you watch starts to feel like a POS. Yes, it ain't a masterpiece, but masterpieces are rarely accessible or satisfying to the general public. Normal every day people don't have the time to watch Every Frame A Painting, Nerdstalgic, Karl Runquist videos and attend film school in order to "enjoy" a movie.
