Great video you have, very helpful. I am in my mid 50s and have recently been confirmed with partial oblique tear of my posterior medial meniscus in my left knee. The tear may have been there for a while but my recent weeks of intense street soccer and tennis had aggravated it. It was painful, sore and felt unstable. However, after a week of rest, it felt much better and I can't wait to go back to my 3 times a week tennis games. It would be great if you can share why the knee sometimes feels good but bad after intense exercises. Since the meniscus is torn, wouldn't it be painful all the time, why and how do strengthening exercises help relieve pain in the knee. Finally, does wearing a knee brace during my tennis game help to alleviate stress on the knee. Thank you so much.
@ThePhysioChannel2 жыл бұрын
Lots of good questions! Its important to note that pain is not directly linked to structure. That would explain why a meniscus can be torn but not be consistently painful. All the best to you

Tore my meniscus on my right knee, I believe, about 2 months ago doing heavy weight walking lunges. Don't have insurance so didn't go get it checked. But per my own researching, and the symptoms and pain I had, it seems to be it. A month ago, I started incorporating into my training regimen, step ups (both bodyweight and using light weights), reverse step ups, single leg box squats, Hindu squats, forward bodyweight lunges and reverse bodyweight lunges, along with walking backwards for distance (about 1-2 miles) a well as walking up the stairs backwards. And, so far, so good. I feel my knee getting stronger. The pain is still there, tho it's a dull and not as sharp anymore. Keep on rockin'! 🤘

My diagnosis is a meniscus tear. My doctor immediately said surgery to which I said hell no ! I don't have much pain, just stiffness and no swelling either. What did you do to speed up healing in terms of diet ?
@harryv67522 ай бұрын
@@SANJ9710 Consumption of collagen. Lots of it. Myself, I made homemade beef and chicken broth; homemade beef and chicken gelatin. It was more cost effective for me, making my own. For the beef broth/gelatin, I pressure cooked some beef bones with a chunk of ginger, pink salt, and a stick of lemon grass, in the Instapot for 45 minutes, setting on soup/stew. For the chicken broth/gelatin, I pressure cooked some chicken feet and chicken wing tips, also with ginger, pink salt, and lemon grass. When done, I pulled out the bones/wing tips/feet and then let the broths cool down. I then put the broths in separate sealable containers, and put those in the fridge overnight. Next morning, I had gelatin, which I then drank a cup, warmed up in the microwave, in the morning, a cup again with lunch, and a cup (or a small bowl) again with dinner. I made enough to last me 5 days, for each batch of broth. The following Sunday, did it again for the following week. For me, I ate the beef marrow, and the chicken wing tips and also the chicken feet (which these are also high in collagen, if you've the palate for them). If you've not the time, there are gelatin and or collagen powders you can buy online, beef or chicken. Good luck and a speedy recovery to ya. 🤘

3:49 Min. I´m confused. Normally, people are told to avoid letting the knee travel inward as it could lead to meniscal problems and instead, to make sure, it stays above the foot. Also, twisting your foot in- or outward during a lunge appears like a configuration, that is not meant to be. So why these recommendations?
@ThePhysioChannel3 жыл бұрын
That is a good question. The answer is that when you are rehabilitating function you want to perform these movements to create a robust outcome. If a person just performs perfect movements they are not resilient to normal day to day movement challenges and the nervous system is also less able to respond.

Hello, I will get physiotherapy soon. I have grade 3A medial meniscus tear on my left knee. I also have a tear on my right knee but it is minor. I'm thinking of a military career, (I'm 22) but where I'm from having arthroscopy is a cause of elimination. Can I be fit for duty? I can take long walks with heavy backpack and run around 10 kms with no pain. My injury was caused by cycling by the way. Thank you for the video, take care!

If you get lots of knee locking and the exercises do not help then considering surgery would be reasonable. All the best from the team.

Surgery bro. I’ve been dealing with a meniscus injury for about a year now. There’s no real way around it. I can still play football Bt I can’t go 100% like I want to. I use a copper fit and a ACE knee sleeve like brace when I play.

I understand your love for football. But you must avoid further injury to avoid further debilitation. I have similar experience in my youth. It was very hard to give up my track running and long distance runs. I’m speaking to you a a father. Please find a physical activity that is less demanding on the knee than football. There is so much more to life. And the key is to avoid further injury. Consider other sports such as hiking, swimming, scuba diving, waking, even light jogging in grassy surface for short distances. I do not recommend cycling due to male function risks imposed by the bike seat.

Posterior meniscus root tear may not repair itself , even with exercises
@cristiangyorgyharastasan6703 Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can restore the knee function but the meniscus will never heal so if you want a 100% flexibility you need to go to see a doctor and probably you will need a surgery to remove it. I had a surgery on my right knee, first the doctor sent me to make some exercises and medicine tratment but without succes, then the surgery, everything went well in 2 months i was back playing football without pain. After 2-3 years of footbal and everday things one day I felt the pain again, wnt to MRI and had the same problem to the same knee (meniscus again) now my knee is flexible but I feel a pain everytime i put pressure on the knee so I need to have another surgery to make it better again. If you dont make the surgery it will never heal by itself. This is my opinion, and my experience with the meniscus problem.
@garrydye2394Ай бұрын
The literature says differently. They have new studies out where there was no actual benefit to having surgery versus not having surgery. They have in fact discovered that cutting away your meniscus is a bad idea but surgeons need to make money so they just keep on doing them. I use to get a Physical Therapist. Got out of it because how much medicine is a complete scam. Do a little research on the new research out as it pertains to having surgery versus not. They actually did a study where half the patients got surgery and half got a fake surgery (placebo) and what they found was zero difference in the patients at the one year and five year mark.

For me, this has happened many times, soreness and what i call fat knee. Speedskater... so, this time, its been years since ive skated, many. I wasnt going nuts and 3 days later i wake up with horrible pain in the calf muscle, probably because ive not worked out like this in a long time. So, stretching helped this go away yet then after sleeping again, my knee hurts like it swelled up. The skating night was fine, again days went by before this happened so i can only think somehow i damaged it while sleeping or the muscles are pulling too hard on my knee from lack of stretching although i did stretch a few times even that night. Indian style sitting, or meditation pose hurts on the right side of my left knee, well, right where it always has when i have aggravated this knee. Ive had surgery on my right knee for a stuck knee tear. I pass most of these tests and the soreness goes away with hot tub and or massage and stretching. I have a feeling due to some very slight pops, only sometimes and not much that there may be a slight tear. Maybe ive slightly torn this a few times in my life. It tends to go away, this time its lasting awhile, but hey, im older now. Thoughts? Thank you.
